Good news about the tornado missing. Have you done any videos on styling a cedar of Lebanon or are they not big in Japan. Do you think this style would work with a Cedar. Love your work Thanks mate
Hey Bjorn, just wanted to note I collected this tree along the Cumberland Ridge, north of Knoxville, not the Smoky Mountains. I would not want your viewers to think it was collected on federal lands without a permit, like we can do in national forests.
Hi bjorn, I know that I’m a little bit late, commenting 3 years after the video was posted! To start, I want to express my admiration for your work and how grateful I am that you are sharing it with the world! Having said that… After watching many of your videos during the last 6 months I can say for the first time that I completely disagree with a styling decisions of yours in a particular bonsai project! Hiding the branch creates an unsettling feeling that you don’t see a significant part of the tree. Part of the branch is very apparent and not seeing where it starts looks very odd. The lines of the tree after the bending are very beautiful and they deserved to be proudly presented.
I am in love with this series. these videos is giving me so much new kowlegde and some stuff I already know put in to practice in a very simple way with reason and history behind every decision.
Love the styling of this tree, hope you come back to it in a later video to show the progress. One suggestion, maybe don't fast forward through the wiring and branch placement. Beginners such as myself could learn a ton from watching your technique. Or upload a full length version for those who could really use the help. Thanks for all you do!
Very cool to learn about the history of Bunjin and the inspiration for your design. These videos really do immerse me in the culture of Bonsai as well as educate. Great stuff, Bjorn
V. Pine and bunjin is a match made in heaven. I dream to have a full table of that combo. I'm curious to know who claimed this tree when you made the move.
Where I am in west TN there are a few Virginia pines used in landscaping and I love the small needles when compared to the other pines! Im constantly on the look out for one and/or some viable cones for seeds. Such a great looking native species for sure.
Are you going to Jin that bare branch at the top ? I was in Nashville in '98 when the tornado came through, and now again in almost the same place. Seems you have a tornado alley down there. Glad you & your trees are OK....Hope all my musician friends there are OK too.
Wow that's beautiful. Is the soil inside the pot strong enough to keep the whole tree up? Or is the pot itself glued to the base marble that acts as a weight? Thanks!
I'm just getting into bonsai and I love trees prune them for a living so maybe that's why I love the concept of a small tree that looks like the tree I climb for the day in my living room love it. The question is that this tree isn't too big for a bonsai?

You made no mention of the branch at the very top. Will that add to the apex with new growth? Or is it a jin?

It's supported by wire. I've seen him do that to a tree in another video

kickflipaws bonsai could be up to four feet. Also you aren’t going to keep any tree alive and thriving indoors.

I've always wanted to do bonsai but I live in Alaska.
The conifers resist very well to the cold...if temperatures are very low,cover the pots with pine bark 👍
