Hey fellow San Diegan! I’ve got a few tidbits of insight to add about your building. I live in Pacific Gate, which is a luxury condo building by Bosa Developers, who also built your apartment building. Diega was actually Bosa’s first apartment building here in San Diego (he’s built most of our skyline), and since watching it go up I’ve been curious to know how our buildings differ (so thanks for the video!). We share many of the same features in our units, and some of the same issues unfortunately. The sink part made me laugh, that’s exactly the same. And our vents are connected to the outside, so we can hear really windy weather, but the fans don’t get messed up. Some of the bathroom vent systems in our building were not installed correctly though, so when the fire department came around to do inspections they were unable to. They ended up having to cut open my bathroom ceiling to fix it. As for the thermostat - it actually IS a smart thermostat, it just uses a crazy high end proprietary system (Elan) that you don’t have the other half of. There’s a second control panel in PG condos that controls the other stuff in the condo (lights, shades, climate, entertainment, etc). You can connect Alexa to this system, and have her control everything. The kicker is that there’s one single company contracted with my building to set this up for you. You literally cannot do it yourself, as the panel does not give you proper access. You also have to pay them every time they come and do it. My guess is that Bosa gets a deal for these thermostats in bulk, then the apartments only get half the system. The quality of the walls/paint is spot on with ours. I don’t know why they skimped so hard on the walls/paint. You could bump into it with a pillow and it’d leave a mark, I swear.

What I noticed in this video that you highlighted the "pet relief" area, which is nice to know since that is an amenity I like to have and would be great if you mention them in future apartment reviews. I know its been a couple years since you did your review on The Rey apartments but they noted a "Dog Walk" on their website but have not been able to see any additional information on it. Would you happen to remember?
Thanks so much! I try to show the pet relief areas if they have them at the apartments I visit, but I'll keep that in mind for the future too! I remember The Rey's top amenity floor was being built up when I visited two years ago and I haven't been back, so I don't have more insight on any Dog Walk unfortunately! I tried looking at their website and didn't see anything either. Maybe try calling and asking about it?
I miss the Lake Michigan fresh water! The water here is just awful, and our filter goes bad so quickly and have to replace every 2 weeks. Do you drink the water here or do you use some kind of filtration system you would recommend?
@@2polansk OMG TELL ME ABOUT IT. Truly drink wayyy less water in Cali than in Michigan. We use britas, and I feel like people think I'm crazy when I say that it still tastes horrible!
I'm from Missouri and really hoping to make the move to San Diego in late summer! I'm going to San Diego in March to tour and the Diega definitely seems like a great place :) I'd be moving alone tho and scared I won't meet any friends (I'll be 24)
Would you recommend Diega or Park 12? I’m considering moving to San Diego and these are my top two choices for downtown. Also contemplating between Balboa Park, Pacific Beach, and Point Loma. It’s so hard to decide.
@@JayAllDayM3 yup this whole video is about Diega and how I recommend it! I've also done a tour on Park 12. I would recommend Diega over Park 12 if it's in your budget. All those areas offer a different vibe. Balboa Park (Bankers Hill) is great because of the easy access to the park. Pacific Beach is like a college town with all the bars. Point Loma is more residential.
@@EshiJay Eshi, you know what would be cool? If you have like a monthly top 10 list video of the top Eshi recommended places in SD. That could also be done for gaslamp bars and restaurants too. Just an idea 💡

Great review! Curious about Diega's guest policy, if any? At our current apartment, we're allowed only 4 guests and we're big on hosting friends and family, so we've always felt this was super limiting.
If you rent out a party space, there's a limit on how many ppl the rooms can accommodate, but it's pretty large. If you're at the pool, I believe it's two guests per resident. There's also guest parking on the first floor, but this is very limited unfortunately. But if you mean just bringing guests over to your place, or to the other common spaces, it's pretty relaxed!

How is the 625 Broadway area that you mentioned in one of your apartment hunting videos? How is the homeless population in that neighborhood. Planning on moving into a studio in downtown with a budget of under 2.5k.
I just toured this past weekend. However, we were having to wait for the elevators for quite some time. Is this a daily occurrence or was it a one off? Additionally, since you have more experience in touring downtown, do you think I should wait until 800 Broadway comes out(next to diega)? It looks like it will be a bit nicer but the Diega sold me with the gym size and views! I just don't like that the pool doesn't have a view and I am not sure how safe it is walking around the neighborhood being a woman who likes the nightlife and would like to be able to walk at night. I am currently also touring Radian, Merian, Simone and park 12. I am going to see your reviews for those!
Unfortunately the elevator situation has become more of a problem, especially when people are moving in/out :(. From the outside at least, the balconies look smaller at 800 Broadway, but I honestly have no idea about the other factors. If you're concerned with the area, 800 wouldn't be any different in terms of safety/unhoused population since it's next door to Diega. I would say Park 12 has a bigger unhoused situation because it's near a shelter. I also didn't love anything about that building compared to the others you're looking at. Radian/Simone are both very nice, with Simone having nicer amenities but Radian having nicer apartments. Would highly recommend looking btwn those two and Diega, those are my top three!

I think Im leaning more towards Diega due to the amenities but the elevator situation will be the death of me. Ugh, hard choices! Radian has killer views, but youre def paying for that. @@yeseniahernandez1751 I think if you can afford a unit at the Diega that's higher up with a nice view, I'd say consider that cause then you'd get that view daily vs just when you use the pool. Also I hear complaints about units facing the pool because of the noise so just beware of that. We've had no issues, but we're also nowhere near the pool/amenities. The Simone and Radian also have pools on the top floor with nice views! Have you looked into the West at all? You might also be interested in that new building. Honestly btwn all of these, you're not going to go terribly wrong, so don't worry too much! And once you're here, you can always move in a year if you're unhappy! Good luck with everything 😊
I wouldn't necessarily say the building is for families with small children, I think it's geared more for young adults. I would say look in North Park, Little Italy, Hillcrest, University Heights, as some of those areas are more suburban and walkable.
4000/ month in rent and it isn’t a mortgage or a condo sheeesh 0:04 girl lol dammmmm!!!! Thank God I bought in downtown SD in 2021 when interest rates were in the 2% so I own not and not rent at 2477.49 a month. The Grande south highrise luxury condos is where I invested in It’s about 1000 sqft 1 bedroom 2 bathroom with downtown skyline/harbor views right between seaport village/harbor and little Italy with little to no homelessness. Girl for 4 grand I would own that money is thrown away in the past 22+ months. Remember you’re not getting any younger invest in realestate asap. Since buying I’ve accrued just over 200 grand in equity. Hence with all the events you’ve stated and more in your video. San Diego realestate is expensive but what a great investment for your future and family
"Go with West, young man..." and you have probably heard of the phrase by Horace Greeley 1865, or go with West the new luxury apartment building at 1011 Union Street 92101 which is opening on March 31, so as to help with some of those issues you are mentioning that are one of the cons there at Diega apartments and if your lease is near end. For not so clearing out water in the kitchen sink just use a window squeegee or something else similar it will a lot efficient oppose to a sink drying towel.
Hey. I’m moving to this apartment complex in a week. I chose it over The Merian and ALX because I thought it was much cleaner. Quick question. Is there any rooftop areas in Diega where you can see all of downtown San Diego. That’s the only thing I liked about The merian was their pool and the view from the top. I know the pool in the diega is much lower but is there anything you can see from a higher level? Any couches or fireplaces on top? Thank you!

@@yusuke1910 if you want walkability over everything, I'd say North Park. More suburb feel, more restaurants and bars. If you want night life, I'd say downtown because gaslamp has the bars and clubs. Point Loma wouldnt be at the top of my recommendations for a young couple, because everything to do there is a car ride away from the other areas anyway (sunset cliffs). The people that say downtown is bad may be the ones that cannot handle homelessness in major cities. It's an unfortunate reality, and they have never given me any issues. In fact, I'm not sure where else they would go to get the resources they need! Good luck with everything 😊

I understand theres homelessness and since we have a dog i want to be careful obviously not trying to breathe second hand crack smoke but i do feel sometimes it’s exaggerated It seems like I could live at the Diega, the rey, or somewhere in north park for a similar price except north park its $250 assigned parking at 2911 adams apartments 😭 and it wasnt nearly as beautiful as the downtown options I honestly think you might have sold me on downtown even though some say it’s noisy or has homeless people I feel like we can always just drive from downtown to good restaurants anywhere, to sunset cliffs or anywhere beautiful
@@yusuke1910 there are so many dogs at the Diega! Im sure there would be people to tell you where to walk. We generally have the walkable areas figured out now, and it's great. You may also want to look at the West, I just toured it and am going to put out that video soon. It's closer to the more walkable areas too.

Plane noise only when the weather makes the airport reverse the runway (so planes take off towards the east). Even then, it's not bad and I never mind it! No trolley noises at all. We prefer the area because it's close to the clubs/bars/night life of gaslamp. But the Little Italy area is lovely for day time walking/restaurants as well! Really depends on your vibe.
I'm more into lots of restaurants coffee shops and shopping and closer to the water so prob little Italy! Do you have a favorite in that area that's quiet and less than $4K for one bdrm :) thank you 🙏🏼

I understand theres homelessness and since we have a dog i want to be careful obviously not trying to breathe second hand crack smoke but i do feel sometimes it’s exaggerated
It seems like I could live at the Diega,
the rey, or somewhere in north park for a similar price except north park its $250 assigned parking at 2911 adams apartments 😭 and it wasnt nearly as beautiful as the downtown options
I honestly think you might have sold me on downtown even though some say it’s noisy or has homeless people I feel like we can always just drive from downtown to good restaurants anywhere, to sunset cliffs or anywhere beautiful
@@yusuke1910 there are so many dogs at the Diega! Im sure there would be people to tell you where to walk. We generally have the walkable areas figured out now, and it's great.
You may also want to look at the West, I just toured it and am going to put out that video soon. It's closer to the more walkable areas too.

Do you get trolley train or plane noise at Diega? You prefer this area to little Italy?
Plane noise only when the weather makes the airport reverse the runway (so planes take off towards the east). Even then, it's not bad and I never mind it! No trolley noises at all.
We prefer the area because it's close to the clubs/bars/night life of gaslamp. But the Little Italy area is lovely for day time walking/restaurants as well! Really depends on your vibe.
I'm more into lots of restaurants coffee shops and shopping and closer to the water so prob little Italy! Do you have a favorite in that area that's quiet and less than $4K for one bdrm :) thank you 🙏🏼
