Lovely video! I used to have a Honda CRV that I removed the rear seats from and put a sleepable platform in the back. Sold it. Just recently (like since I last saw you) I bought another to ostensibly get J to learn to drive in. That will soon get the bed treatment again!
Nice vid. I’ve done similar in my 90 but opted for the passenger side for my bed base. Means I keep it in place with the sleeping bag while away and always have access to my driver’s position if I need to move asap! I bought a comfy seat to use in the back to relax in along with ammo boxes for food, cooking gear, etc. I put my bike on the spare wheel so I can still use the back door. My system means the camping arrangement can be removed anytime to return the 90 to my daily drive. Also should be easier to sell if its not permanently modified.
Seems like we both have very much the same idea and like you I didn't want to make any permanent changes so the "bed" is just held in place by a bungee. I was thinking of getting a large roofbox to go on the roofrack so that I could have the inside a little less full, there isn't a lot of space in a 90.
Yes, I agree, the roof box option has been on my mind, to put all the ‘occasional stuff’ I might need and create more free space inside, but I have two very low railway bridges nearby which will result in my having to take a long detour to avoid. So, I’ll probably have to stick with minimising the ‘clutter’ I take - not a bad thing I suppose. I’d still recommend using the near side for the bed though - seems more logical to me. Cheers.
Great video iam designg something similar my self to sleep in my defender 90 trying to make a double bed that folds away at the front of bulkhead something that can be taken out easily when not in use aswell I really like the simple design of your just for one person sleeping in 90
Mine just sits in place and is held by a bungee, I wanted it to fold out of the way and be easy to remove. If you did mine twice (one for each side) you’d have a double, then perhaps leave one down all the time with built in storage under it?? I use one one leg because the outside and front rest on the top of the tub. Enjoy designing and building.
Nice video been doing a very similar thing in my defender 90. I will upload my video soon put the half bulkhead head removal bar in to lower it down a bit but very similar to the idea I had. 💡
In the 90 version I suspect even from the A pillar to the back Corner is a bit short for a hammock, it would be about 6 feet but you need room to hang the hammock and there is no existing anchor point on the A pillar. I think this might be a better fit in the 110 version BUT please let us know what works because I'm interested in other solutions. Thank you
Sorry but I don’t have any details about them. They were mounted as roof spotlights on a Land Rover Series 3 I purchased years ago and after a serious encounter with a tree I salvaged bits and recycled them. The roof rack and awning were also on the Series 3. I’ve wired the lights with their own supply from the battery and a relay activated by the main beam power. Don’t piggyback off the headlights circuit as it’s not able to support extra lights and will either overload the loom or result in lights not being bright, perhaps this is now different with LEDs because they draw so little power. It was van side when I got it so I and a friend put in the side windows. Defenders are often part salvage projects and always Lego like, build them as you want them.
@@hugmusic25 Hi, no just one Battery. the important thing is to run new wiring for the Spotlights so as to not overload the existing wiring loom. You can then take a connection from the existing headlights to operate a relay (switch) so that when I when I activate Main Beam this then turns on the spotlights but sing their own wiring.
The bike is on a hydraulic lift (bit like this one www.ebay.com.au/itm/282655256208), it attaches to the plate the tow ball is on and uses a build in bottle Jack to lift the bike, the same way as some garage Jacks lift from under the engine. The bike in the video is about 120kg, and I’d say this is about as much as you’d want. It drives OK I’ve done 250mile trip each way but you do feel the extra weight out past the rear axle and I take it very easy over potholes and speed bumps. Another good idea is the MotoLug trailer, they are very easy to dismantle and put inside the car/van/defender, great for a weekend where you want to leave the Car parted up while your riding.
I’m about 5’11” and I think you’re too tall for my idea to be comfortable. Might be slightly better on the passenger side and have your feet at the windscreen because the back is more vertical.
These seats where installed before I got it. I think they are Exmoor Trim, who do a forward facing rear seat but not cheap. The seatbelt is over the shoulder and attached to the body not the seat. It’s attached to the floor between the two seats, to the wheel arch and has a steel bar for upper attachment that is bolted to the tub at the bottom and the roof at the top ( runs up inside the window). I hope this helps
I'm looking for a solution. This doesn't look comfortable though. Why not use passenger side and possibly get a flatter bed? It's foldable platform so leave bed folded when you want to sit. I really don't understand your logic there....

Ideal for green lanes in wales
Ideal to trailer a bike and camp to do far away green lanes
Google Eva zu Beck Defender on yt. She has over 1M subs, and for good reason.

Cool Defender !
Thank you, I like that it’s a lees common colour.
Very lovely video my dear ❤ ♥
Thank you, I felt it was very basic but I wanted to share with others that it was possible to get a bed into a short Defender

I considered doing the same bulkhead removal but didn’t so will be interesting to see how yours worked out
have a hamock corner to corner, that I'm planing on doing when I get a 90 or 110 or freelander 2

Pls share more insights on headlights on bumper

Well done like the idea, by any chance what did you do with the back seats are they on the for sale 😊
Thank you. Sorry, keeping the seats so that I can change around as needed.
Hey. How have you mounted the bike on the Defender? What weight is the bike? How does it drive. Would appreciate if you could share.

Hi I'm Curious. how tall are. @ 6ft3 I'm wondering if its feasible.

I'm looking to add a folding seat to my 96 90 that has bench now. Where did you get that seat? Did it have a shoulder belt?

See my comment.
Is that a 2m/70cm antenna?
Yes.

I have sense redesigned and rebuild but haven’t yet made a new video
