Take care storing a gas bottle inside the vehicle. Most campervans have a gas locker, which you access from a hatch outside. It has floor ventilation so any leaking gas can escape and is sealed off from the interior. Propane/butane is heavier than air so if there's a leak it can build up in a welled area. Also if you don't already have one, a carbon monoxide detector is essential.
Great video, if you are keeping the gas bottle inside, please put a gas drop out in the floor. If for any reason there is a leak in gas, it will have a means of escape.
Absolutely right to spend time living in it to work out how you personally need things to be. People will try to tell you what they think you need, in my experience, they haven’t even spent more than a few weekends in a paid ‘camp sire’ before going back to their comfy house to wash the dishes etc.
Be very careful with a gas bottle you’re vechicle neeeds to be vented as in it needs to have a vented area to prevent explosion I’ve seen this happen in Australia especially with work vans so please keep this in mind
Did you pull the carpet up and have a look underneath before starting all this work? The popular conception is that Disco' 1 floors go rotten but Disco' 2 floors are more resistant to rust. While this IS true... to some extent... D2 floors DO rust around the wheelarches and around the edges of the rear footwell. It doesn't help that the carpet is REALLY thick so, even if your car has no leaks, it will have soaked up 20 years of condensation. I pulled mine out and hung it on a garage wall and it immediately dripped pints of water onto the floor and then it took another couple of weeks to dry out properly. On a related note, Disco's are famous for having saggy headliners. I pulled out my headliner to re-cover it back in September and, due to the way these things take longer than you expect, I was driving around with no headliner for a couple of months and it was pretty shocking just how much condensation appears on the underside of the roof every day. When it's warm during the day but cold at night the roof ends up soaking wet in the morning. Point being, if you want a condensation-free (and, subsequently, rust-free) Disco' you REALLY need to work on the insulation for the roof. If you don't, condensation will form on the roof, run down the sides of the vehicle and soak into the insulation you've fitted to the sides and soak into the carpet. Honestly, although the carpet in the D2 is very good quality, it's probably better to remove it from all the places you're going to build stuff, rather than building on top of the carpet. That way you will, at least, be able to inspect the metal floor and see if there's any dampness.
They often have some decent storage boxes in the B&M next door to that Wickes. A walk around the homewear section upstairs is worth it sometimes, you can spot things that come in useful. You and Jake worry me with your gas bottles. They should be in a sealed box with a drop out vent to the outside to prevent a build up of gas in the van if they leak. (sorry to sound like your Dad). Have you thought about blacking out/insulating your window yet? I used silver foil foam camping mat on the only single glazed window in my camper which was a real cold spot and it makes a load of difference. I did the same in my old VW with mat cut to size and held in place with suckers.
Hiya, first of all I'm glad you safe 😊, know I'm just getting into wild camping and it's videos like urs I'm doing it, as I had a drug addiction but now I'm clean!! Witch I'm really proud of, but just sitting around and watching people like you makes me see and feel I'm wasting my life, so iv been getting my all I need to start seeing what you have so thank you so much be safe lee, from Coventry.
For another project, get an ex army Sankey trailer (wide track). These can be easily converted to an overland trailer. The Disco 2 takes the Nato Pintle no problem.
Your looking super snuggy in your Landy Becky, I know van life is something you've dreamed of, now your making it happen. Can't wait to watch your adventures. 2023 is your year.
Your land rover is going to be stunningly lush once you get all the needed bits and bobs installed in just the right places. That is when you will enjoy more fantastic outdoor adventures. Thank you Chef Becky for showing us how your putting things together. Have a wonderful day.
Just a suggestion,on the back door if you get a piano hinge and a couple of supports you can fit what would be a table for cooking, laptop etc. When not in use it'll fold flat against the door.
As someone who has spent many years doing van life, and a land rover owner. My advice would be fit some wind deflectors, then you can have ventilation without it being obvious that windows are open or when it's raining. If in the future you have to replace any flooring (it gets damaged) I found Cork tiles are warmer on your feet, and you can just replace the damaged ones. Also be aware that Scottish Air gun laws are different. But a trigger lock, and a wire lock are a good idea if carrying ang gun in a vehicle.
Becky, I have never lived in a van/car, although my family have often remarked that I might as well have because of the time I've spent at work in one or another. I have always taken a lot of time and effort fitting out and making improvements to my vans, both for work efficiency and living comfort (I,ve spent many nights sleeping over in vans rather than drive home tired). The one thing I can guarantee is that you will never finish this job. Don't even try. If you are wise you will come to love this process of change just as you love the process of evolving as a person. Don't look to an end of this task. I promise you it will never happen nor should it. 😊
Brilliant one Becky, One tidy looking motor, looks new on the outside. We always redesigning our homes on wheels, new ideas pop into your head and rearrange time haha. Going to be a perfect adventure Percy Landy for exploring the countryside. Keep Loving the Adventure 💚
I have a Defender and I know they are iconic, but I am sure the Disco 2 is more practical for your needs and a more comfortable, quieter drive. Campingaz from what I remember is standard across Europe and you get earache for taking any other bottles across borders. It's cheaper than in the UK as well. I had to cut a hole in my floor to get at the fuel tank, otherwise I would need to remove loadsa stuff from underneath that had been there for 20 years, I think the Disco already came with the home? Glad you went for the Landy and not a van.
7.6k views and only a 1k likes, come on guys n gals give Becky the all important thumbs up you only have to press a button. Great work Becky found your channel two weeks ago now look forward to each new video. 😊
Hello, I am concerned about the 1m gas hose you made. I know it is on the regulated side of the regulator, however I am pretty certain the hose you made with "standard" hose clamps is not at all designed or tested for gas. Please have a proper hose with fittings design for gas made if you cannot buy one in the length you require.
Loving ur new Land Rover Becky ❤ hope u have many happy, safe and exciting adventures. Thanks for letting us join u on this journey, I can’t wait to see the finished result and where u take us. Don’t worry wot anybody else thinks or says about ur Land Rover or anything else for that matter. It’s your journey not there’s just enjoy every second! I would love to do wot ur doing xx
Use a natural coffee stain or a water stain then I usually put some polish on it on your woodwork go all natural that's the way I like it water paint for artwork
It's great to see what a 'can-do' attitude can achieve in transforming the Discovery. Every new change and addition will make van life more comfortable, practical and enjoyable, and I'm sure you're going to have a great time exploring the UK and Europe. Maybe a roof-top tent would be a good addition for later. Stay safe and have fun.
Hi Becky Great Car love 4x4s can't go wrong with that and a Doggie. You've done a good job glad you like air rifle's ive got 5 Weihrauch's bought one for Christmas lol All of you keep safe
This is just the start of many adventures in the landy, you deserve all that comes to you, all the best Becky, look forward to more great content 🏴👍
Really wholesome videos. Thank you! I've found them a wonderful escape when I'm not able to get out camping as much as I would like. Really looking forward to seeing how this series progresses!
It is fantastic Becky to see your enthusiasm and enjoyment not only the conversion but for life! Loving to watch your channel and you getting up to speed with your ideas and your skill set! Take care and enjoy! 👣⛺️🚐🦉👍😎
You must read a book called Chasing Rainbows by Peter and Eileen Crichton. It's a wonderful tale of this couple travelling the world in a Discovery 1. Also, bear in mind that if the diesel lift pump gives up working, and they can, you need to get access to it inside the diesel tank and that means lifting out the complete rear floor. I know this from personal experience! Fantastic! You have already thought of that! Teach me not to comment before seeing the whole video.
I was just thinking and maybe you have thought about the same thing but would it not be easier, save room and possible be more comfortable. I would suggest sleeping in a hammock. Putting the Anchoring points at each corner of the Land rover meaning you could take one side down roll it up to the other corner. this would leave the whole floor for other things. The way I would do this is remove the headliner from the preferred corner. Have someone weld a small but thick horse shoe shaped metal piece to the corner and you could use carabiner clips to attach the hammock too. Just a thought may help.
Hi Becky. I have received two “Hit me up on Telegram” messages under your profile photo. That does not sound like you, so you may have a hacker trying to tamper with your IG account.
luv it; I just bought a rougher green Discovery1 (has way more rust, isn't nice, needs way more work; but only 80k miles apparently) . I personally wouldn't use any vinyl (?) in a small indoor space I wanted to be healthy. Why not just go with all natural materials like a cleanable wool rug over wood, or a pine-wood floor? a thin board with a thin wool rug would be nice; or honestly just the land rover rear carpet seems way nicer to me. If it smells or bothers you at all, swap it for a more natural material. I will have some steak and asparagus though lol ;-)
Brilliant content, the Landy is coming along well and I’m enjoying watching how you convert it, looks like you’re putting good thought into what you do. Great spot you picked for your camp out. Looking forward to the next episode, keep the videos coming!
Having had a couple of disco 1s over the years and used them as campers it's nice to watch your journey ,if I was to do one again I'd probably aquire a bongo roof and adapt that onto a roof rack to give a elevating roof and access it through a sunroof/access panel good luck with your build . Once I finish my sprinter camper I may head back to landrovers again with a old series 109
Hi Becky…have you looked at the tailgate expansion awning tents that are available….I’m not sure how much space is required to store them when unassembled but they are worth looking into. Would definitely expand your living space especially when raining and provide a screen barrier for bugs when needed. 😊
Very interesting so far. You may want to get some moisture absorbers for the truck, especially here in the UK, I know my Defender gets very wet inside when I kip in it, through expelled breath and damp clothes.
Looking good so far Becky. Can't wait to see the finished product. Some type of table off the back would Jeb good to have. Could cook and have a place to eat. That could be the worktop you are talking about, I don't know. Take care and stay safe.
Great job , just a suggestion, you might want to put some cross bracing across the bed base as the two on the long access off the bed aren't going to give the bed strength in the middle..look forward to your next adventure!!.💕🇬🇧
Have loved the new landrover theme. You said you bought it from biggest second hand land rover site. Whom are they and where. I'd love to look to do same thing. If you could give them a shout out.. many thanks
Its looking good! 👍🏻 one thoight ( which im doing wiyh my wooden bed in van) is make a drawer under the bed which slides out the back door and has a lid which you can use as a table to put on cooker so can cook standing up outside in rain ( if you have a tarp over back… just a thoight.
I have an old td5 and was going to sell it but watching you makes me want to keep it lol, 😂 would like a roof tent as well , haven't done any camping in it yet and still got seats in, looked at a blow up bed that fits in the gaps between the front and back seats, not sure yet ,great video I also been watching mari life also in a disco
Just wanted the 3 videos of this new adventure in your new (S/H) Land Rover. I’m not a Land Rover man but each to there own 🤔 I’m really hanging out for the next video, Don’t panic, Take your time 🤗🤗. Coz I have a very very big advantage ahead of me 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Yes that’s right I’m going right back to the start of your videos and watch every one of them till I catch up 🤗🤗🤗🤗 Wish me luck 😂😂😂😂 Take care young lady and see you in the next video 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice to see Percy taking shape. A wee drive away tent would be a great addition to your kit, help make use of the outdoor space while giving you more living space etc, especially when the nicer weather comes. That’s way you can spend a few days etc in one place but are able to pop out in the Landy for trips and essentials. Just a thought. Anyway love what you have done so far and look forward to the comfy bed from..😀
Hi. Not sure if you are familiar with a 270 degree awning ? We use them a lot in Australia. They provide a lot of quick easy shelter and simply bolt onto a roof rack. Safe travels.

That landi is in real good condition by the look of it ,nice1 👍❤
Great video, if you are keeping the gas bottle inside, please put a gas drop out in the floor. If for any reason there is a leak in gas, it will have a means of escape.
…………. Wickes…is. 🤔
😂
Good work. Discos are brilliant!
Bravo! Soo nice to see, creative and hands on.
Great video you are doing a great job keep at it
Absolutely right to spend time living in it to work out how you personally need things to be. People will try to tell you what they think you need, in my experience, they haven’t even spent more than a few weekends in a paid ‘camp sire’ before going back to their comfy house to wash the dishes etc.

Good video - Good luck

Clamping vibes from this land rover :)

A very good recomendation
Your looking super snuggy in your Landy Becky, I know van life is something you've dreamed of, now your making it happen. Can't wait to watch your adventures. 2023 is your year.

Looks like a good start on the land rover.
I did this with my 2003 rav4, best decision ever, I’ve now got a van and converted it myself. It’s a journey, but one well worth taking. Best of luck.
Thats a lovely TD5, hope you have may a happy moment in your Landy!!
I love your can do attitude Becky.
Love the Disco TD5 it's a good choice! If you're near Hartley Wintney bring it to the workshop 🙌
This is something I wanted to do before I had my little lad
It’s still something I liked to do in the future with him
That's shaping up to be a nice little conversion. Always good to see more micro campers out there

You're very handy ain't you Becky. I love your hands on style, it fantastic 👍
Excellent to see you camping & creating your own vehicle to live in. Take care.

Imagine being this blessed 🥲

The landy is really coming along fair play to you 👍
hi becky, great channel and lovely video, all the very best to you, from Nick in Wolsingham.
Awesome setup I'm jealous
Just a question have you asked me to message you on telegram
This is just the start of many adventures in the landy, you deserve all that comes to you, all the best Becky, look forward to more great content 🏴👍
Going to Wicks is an outdoor adventure I can actually relate experientially to for a change.

Hope you have lots of adventures in the Landy! The build is coming along nicely
You have now inspired me to get a landy. Thank you 😁

Excellent Video, very enjoyable, can't wait for more bits 'n' bobs to be added and crafted to Percy the Land Rover.
Excited for your new adventures

Beautiful girl in a sweet modified land rover hey what better than that. Wish you all the best forwards in life and have a happy new year
😎👍❤Congratulations on your vehicle purchase, Becky! You've got a lot of adventures ahead of you.
You may be living in a Land Rover, but you're really living your dream, Becks. Keep on heading on down the road!👍
Hi Becks. Great video mate. It must be much more satisfying living in the van knowing you made the conversion as opposed to having one ready made x
Thanks so much Michael! Take care x
Looks like you are doing a wonderful job. How did you sleep? Stay well and stay warm.
Great work Becky enjoying the build 👍
Very interesting so far. You may want to get some moisture absorbers for the truck, especially here in the UK, I know my Defender gets very wet inside when I kip in it, through expelled breath and damp clothes.
Awesome seeing you continue lifes journey as u see fit , enjoy your life Becky !!
Pease an blessings
Craig
awesome work Becky. Can I ask you one request? Can you get a gas alarm for your landy asap? Its good piece of mind if nothing else
love the style of videos, excited to see the whole journey
Nice example of a TD5
Looking good so far Becky. Can't wait to see the finished product. Some type of table off the back would Jeb good to have. Could cook and have a place to eat. That could be the worktop you are talking about, I don't know. Take care and stay safe.
How is your dad doing Becky iv missed all of your adventures plus your dad's iv been able to be up and about again hope all is well there
Looking good….cosy environment… hey don’t forget a carbon monoxide alarm of some description..🤔 x
Love the Rab fleece, what’s it called so I can find one on the net 👍
i do hope you have great aa or rac cover as the old lanny does love a break down
Great job , just a suggestion, you might want to put some cross bracing across the bed base as the two on the long access off the bed aren't going to give the bed strength in the middle..look forward to your next adventure!!.💕🇬🇧
well done becks , great effort 👍
Thank you Becky!!! cant wait for the next episode :)
Hi how are you ❤
Love your channel, I've been catching up on your backpacking vlogs. I did the WHW 10 years ago which is both challenging and amazing ❤❤
great video/content, disco coming along nicely, well done!
Have loved the new landrover theme. You said you bought it from biggest second hand land rover site. Whom are they and where. I'd love to look to do same thing. If you could give them a shout out.. many thanks
You said to text on telegram... Could you just not say on here where you got the disco??
Anyway love what you have done so far and look forward to the comfy bed from..😀
Following this as I’m doing a similar build on mine
Well done Becky
Greetings….happy new year!
Happy new year!!
Hi. Not sure if you are familiar with a 270 degree awning ? We use them a lot in Australia. They provide a lot of quick easy shelter and simply bolt onto a roof rack. Safe travels.
Loving your build I have a landcruiser which I am contemplating doing what your doing.Great video thanks for the inspiration 😀
BUSHWHACKERMAN selected a good canopy to fit on the back of his Landy. That seems to be a fine way to expand space into the outdoors.
