I’ve had this soundproofing treatment carried out by the guys at Audiofile-incar and have to say that unless you actually experience the before and after drive of the vehicle then you probably won’t appreciate the difference to the drive ability and comfort of the Defender by just watching this video. Normally any long drive in my vehicle would be enough to rattle the fillings in my back teeth but the long drive back up to Scotland was one heck of a transformation. So impressed with the service, I am driving back down the road again for further work on the vehicle in the next couple of months.
Hey I’m 16 and planning on tidying up my dads 2009 defender to use as my first car. I have just finished soundproofing the rear bulk head and after watching this has really helped me understand how to properly do the doors and the front of the vehicle. Keep the videos coming really enjoy them and they are really helpful!!!
My advice is find a resonance kit that kills panel noise, there are vehicle kits available from dynamat or noisekiller, just little patches of a high density mat you place in specific places, you then overlay with a medium density to isolate, then you can add heat insulation,
Gary and the team did my Defender Adventure Edition. It’s a decision I haven’t regretted for a moment, it’s so much more enjoyable to drive. I wouldn’t hesitaste advising fellow Defender drivers to go for it! Defenders without the need for ear defenders = no brainer! 😜
Did this years ago on the bulkhead/ floors , and went over the top of the bolts / floors screws like you have done except 2 of them in in back corner, recently needed to take floors out and , every single screw that I covered over under the dynamat was rusted / corroded really bad to the point I had to grind them out except the 2 that I hadn't covered , future ref holepunch / dont cover the bolts/ fixings
We have never had this issue and we have been using these products for over 20 years with hundreds of returning customers. Not sure where you went wrong but glad you have fixed it.
I have a 94 NAS Defender with a soft top and a 96 D1 no sunroofs and its like night and day without doing the sound deadening - Defenders just don't have anything from the factory but the aluminum - tough to drive them across the country
congratulations, great work... I'm John, I live in Italy and I have a DEFENDER 90, would you like to ask how much it costs to do this job, and if in the meantime I can start soundproofing the engine compartment, thanks
Between the tests there only seemed to be a 7db reduction at most ‘when not talking.’ A thorough job but personally I don’t think it’s worth going to this length. Condensation will be removed / reduced which is the main benefit here. Added weight must be in the region of 70-100kg, if not a little more.
Great result in terms of sound proofing - but also great for trapping moisture behind the sound proofing panels. Noise isn't the biggest enemy of a Defender - corrosion is.
@@AudiofileIncar that's interesting. So, when people swap out the old screws and bolts for Stainless... They're protecting replaceable screws and killing the panels?
I am the only one that noticed that the 85db noise on the before video was with him talking the whole time and the 75db on the after video was with everyone silent in the car? Not a fair Before and After comparison at all!!!

its not fair when it comes to the end results. you first test and dont stop talking and when you even give it a slight second of not talking it dips to 78,5 DB before it gets a chance of dropping further you start talking about calibrated microphones and stuff while in the next test you actually give it a moment calibrate to quiet state. so rather then 10 DB its more in the range of 2,5 to 3 DB difference.
Nice to see it done. Lucky bu##er$, you had the "Ford TDCi" era dash with some sound deadening behind but a lot of us owners have a "tractor" engine just the other side of 2mm ally plate.
I want to know this too. I’ve just started to dynomat my landy and in need to know if I should be using skins in certain places. Also what is the 6mm product you refer to?
Not generally, there is very little surface area behind the dash to sound proof. We have done this in the past but the extra cost kind of out weighs the benefit. If requested we would do it.
You guys do a great job and put out quality content. I have upgrades, but for me the sound, and very specific noise of the engine, is one of the many reasons why I drive a Defender.

No moisture is trapped behind the soundproofing, it’s rolled on to ensure this. The problem in a Defender is caused by Galvanic Corrosion.

summarized: 60mph (96kph) = 80 to 85 dbs to 72/73dbs noise reduction (10 db reduction)
That's not how the decibel scale works. Every 10db is 10x the power and 3x the amplitude. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decibel

Can someone tell me how much it would cost usually if I wasnt to do it myself?
It's currently £2199 for a 90 interior soundproof, all of the details are on the web site.
If that was mine I’d rip all the soundproofing out & put it back to as it should be
