I thought I recognized you. I was heading out toward table rock out of the parking lot when you were filming that intro haha. Great channel. Love the gorge! Unfortunately sprained my ankle the next day down the Conley Cove trail. Those leaves really covered some dangerous parts of the trail.
My friend and I had quite an adventure in Linville Gorge this past summer. It involved being on the peak of Hawksbill Mountain in a serious thunderstorm. Probably scariest moment of my life. Lightning was hitting the peaks adjacent to us and storm was moving over us quick. We ended up hauling tail without our packs down the mountain to a lower elevation and rested under an overhang for an hour. We came back for the tent and packs during a patch of clear sky. We then proceeded to hike back down the mountain in heavy rain, slipping on rocks, falling in mud. We just spent that night in a motel. Haha.
Not only is there a hiss in the audio, the video quality doesn't do you justice. But it's great to see the Hickery Bros. back in the Linville Gorge! Thanks for taking us along! WB!!!!
Perfect timing to see this as I head out with some friends this coming weekend for a hang in the piney woods! Thank you for the usual "woods stoke" and it is always great to see you and Hick doing what you love to do. Carry forth!!!
Buddy and I went down cambric this summer and you are not lying. That might be one of the steepest trails in the gorge. Def used a lot of trees to stop myself from barreling down that one. Also, thank you so much for making these videos shug. As always you inspire me to get out.
It was nice meeting and hanging with you down at Conley Cove this weekend. And I just realized I totally forgot to try to stop and get one of those Duchess pies on my way home!
Woooooooo buddy!!! One more sleep at home and then I get 10 amazing nights in my hammock in the BC Interior backwoods 👍😀. Watching you two definitely is gonna be a good way to spend the last few hours at home!
Y'all must have stayed at that first site you hit coming up Shortoff. I was lucky enough to hang at the next site down from there right before labor day. I had the last 2 trees about 25-30ft from the edge. Woke up looking at Table Rock and Hawksbill. What a beautiful area. Glad you were ok from the wreck.
Good to see the Hickory brother's out & about. Especially with fall showing off her colors. I would have thought that winter would be encroaching your way. Thanks
***** Seems like fall is hanging on up your way. Down here, in TX, we're still experiencing summer temps. But fall continues to peak through from time to time. Sadly we don't get the colors. Great to see you guys out and thanks for taking us along.:)
Whoooo Buddy - lunchtime here in sunny Scotland! Great vid to watch while havin' me lunch from the hammock - more commonly known as the office chair! Good to see the Hickery Bros again :-)
I retire from the Navy in about 3.5 years. I got me 50 acres, a house and a cabin back in my stompin grounds in the iron range. Hope to bump into you on the trails someday. Now if I could find a way to get out of Japan a little sooner than the summer of 2020
I was at the Scout Rendezvous, and it was amazing. I was highly anticipating the show as I had found the Shug's channel about a year prior. Very entertaining.
The fire fighting chopper reminded me of a time a buddy and I hung out in the Sierras. We found a nice spot around a small lake, pulled out the fishing poles and then heard a chopper in the distance. It hovered over us and dipped its bucket in the lake a flew off. It scared the "morning constitutional out of us. My buddy and I just looked at each other and said, "Guess we won't be catching any fish". They kept coming in until dusk. We were glad it wasn't all night!
Look into GoPro Silver 4. I was reluctant at first, but its a great camera. Using a Frame and not the big case, you can get excellent audio and the video is great. The silver has an LCD on the back. Can be controlled by phone with the app. Tons of mounts and such... They really are worth it
Man... The spot you camp on the first night reminds me so much of the outlook you and Hickery had for that epic lightning storm rode out and posted years back. Different spot? Hawksbill? My favourite UA-cam channel of all time! Wooooobuddy from australia!
7:43 I'm quite sure, that's not exactly what is written :P Great to see you guys, happy that you had an awesome weather. Autumn in the mountains is beautiful! WhoooBuddy !!! ready for pt. 2! :D
That canyon view would be hard to leave, I might of called it there and popped a squat. Plus it inspired some pretty sweet moves on Kent's part. Who humps in not just one but two frying pans?
Just curious, when you stand wicked close to the ledge like at 4:47 minutes, do you think, just for like a millisecond, "I know I have a good life and all . But what if I just squatted down and jumped off this bad boy with all my might."
I thought eating from the hammock was bad, but now this.........cotton.........that's next level, I'm just glad the maple King is at hand to save you from yourself. ;)
Hey shug picked up the Imusa cup on Amazon for $2.17cents couldn't pass it up . I enjoy watching your hickory brother Trips best of all with the maple king crazy but funny as hell !! He's got anger issues funny stuff for sure !!
Having a fun rewatch of this, prior to the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass anniversary over here in Derbyshire, UK. I'll be up on the tops doing a yellowman jig and a Maple King crouch, with due obesience to the local spirits of course. As Burt would say, "You Don't Beat It. You Don't Beat This Rivahh!"
Well...helps to know where it is for sure. Most folks start down it by accident if they head North on MST trail coming fro Shortoff heading for Table rock. Cambric is just before Chimney Gap coming from the South. Had fun at scout gig too.
FYI, in another vid you mentioned peanut butter Pop Tarts are getting harder to find....well I cant find them anywhere. I got on line and found em on WalMarts website. Yep, ordered me several boxes for myself. WOOOO DADDY ARE THEY GOOOOD!
I've got the 280hs and it's been a very good camera. Rugged too. Only problem being that now after over 2 years of use, it needs to go to the shop to have dust cleaned out from the inside of the lens. That will cost me $100.
Hey, Shug! I’m plotting out a hike for me and my son. I’m thinking of starting at Wolf Pit and heading up to Shortoff, then over to the Chimneys and Table Rock Mountain. Are there plenty of places to get water along the way? I’ve got a water filter pump thingamabob so just looking for streams. Thankee Mucho!

shugemery, I’m REALLY glad to have read trip reports at linvillegorge.net. That place will humble ya real quick like! I’ve bought a topo map and I’ve downloaded the GPS info from the forums. I’ll start with a single overnight jaunt and take it easy. Thanks a TON for all you do for the community.
It was nice meeting you and hanging out with you and the fellow rats this weekend Shug. Glad to see you made it back bud. Watch out for them bears.....
I'm sure you may have mentioned this before and I know you play the mandolin but do you perform the music in your videos? Thanks for all of the great videos.
Got to check out a video stream of the Rendezvous show. I do hope you had the opportunity to hit Red Bridges BBQ Lodge while in Shelby. Good golly Reds is some good eat'n.
I agree, the elf 110 was by far better. I hear the noise you referred to. I also think the image stabilization was better with the 110 but your videos are always enjoyable no matter the filming device.
Hey Shug I had my colon removed recently and I'll tell ya, my morning constitutionals can be a might scary. The best of them get a "WHOOOOOOO BUDDY" and once squared away I allow myself a little "All secure in sector 7". Now that I actually write that down, I'm not sure why I thought that you'd want to know, but there it is. I'm not Sean and I'm not Ken and I'm not a Hickery Brotherrrrrrrr.

God here I am again. April 2023 and I am binging the Hickory Brothers again. When will it end? I love the gorge and I love these videos.
Thankee for your enthusiasm~~
Great video Sean. As an Eagle Scout from many moons ago, I thank you for your support of the BSA.
Well....they did pay me to drive down from Minnesota to NC and do a gear demo and big show.
shugemery the show was awesome!
Thankee....I had a right goodie of a time I did.
My friend and I had quite an adventure in Linville Gorge this past summer. It involved being on the peak of Hawksbill Mountain in a serious thunderstorm. Probably scariest moment of my life. Storms are rowdy up there....Whooooo Buddy))))

Nothing yet. We need to get on it.
Thanks guys, now I'm stuck with the Yellow Man song and dance in my head. Great flick Shug, as always :)
It'll do that:::::
I look forward to this series every year.
Not only is there a hiss in the audio, the video quality doesn't do you justice. But it's great to see the Hickery Bros. back in the Linville Gorge! Thanks for taking us along! WB!!!!
The sound bothers me the most. Upgrade coming....
"I'm wearing cotton, I could die at any moment" hahaha!
It did stink and that almost killed me!
My all time favourite hiking videos..the Hickery Brothers ride again. Long live the Maple KIng !
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
Perfect timing to see this as I head out with some friends this coming weekend for a hang in the piney woods! Thank you for the usual "woods stoke" and it is always great to see you and Hick doing what you love to do. Carry forth!!!

There were 3 fellers going to go up it. They stared bug-eyed:::::
Great to see you together again and another outstanding hike so far. Like how you both appreciate nature.
Take care,
Al
We spent much time in the woods as kids hiding from chores!
My day just got better another Shug and Hickory video, fantastic!
Thankee.
Always a joy to follow you guys through the great ditch, thanks
As always....mucho thanks.
I've never been to Linville Gorge, you are inspiring me!! thanks for sharing with us!
It awaits you.
It was nice meeting and hanging with you down at Conley Cove this weekend. And I just realized I totally forgot to try to stop and get one of those Duchess pies on my way home!
Ahhh man! Real good to meet you.
Two thumbs up. Thanks for taking us along.
I thankee.
Woooooooo buddy!!! One more sleep at home and then I get 10 amazing nights in my hammock in the BC Interior backwoods 👍😀. Watching you two definitely is gonna be a good way to spend the last few hours at home!
Have a great walk and be vigilant.

Get on out there then feller and take the lady. Thankee.
Site your talking about was super windy....but great view of Table Rock and Hawksbill for sure.
Good to see my two favorite brothers by different mothers back on native soil! Looking forward to mo' Yellow Man Jiggery-do dancing I hope!
Sorry we did not get to see you. Pie was had.....
Good to see the Hickory brother's out & about. Especially with fall showing off her colors. I would have thought that winter would be encroaching your way.
Thanks
I got peak fall twice this year!
***** Seems like fall is hanging on up your way. Down here, in TX, we're still experiencing summer temps. But fall continues to peak through from time to time. Sadly we don't get the colors.
Great to see you guys out and thanks for taking us along.:)
That dog looked thrilled! you guys are hilarious and can't wait to watch the rest of this trip.
He was feeling sheepish in the car.
Whoooo Buddy - lunchtime here in sunny Scotland!
Great vid to watch while havin' me lunch from the hammock - more commonly known as the office chair!
Good to see the Hickery Bros again :-)

Whooooo Buddy))))
Love your videos. Linville gorge is beautiful country.
Just always drawn back to the Gorge....thankee.
I retire from the Navy in about 3.5 years. I got me 50 acres, a house and a cabin back in my stompin grounds in the iron range. Hope to bump into you on the trails someday. Now if I could find a way to get out of Japan a little sooner than the summer of 2020
Arigato and carry forth.
Excellent vid, Shug! Miss seeing vids of you and Kent hiking.. waiting for vid 2
We only get the time once a year!
I was at the Scout Rendezvous, and it was amazing. I was highly anticipating the show as I had found the Shug's channel about a year prior. Very entertaining.
Thanks so much for that. I recall the night vividly. After packing up and leaving I went to Waffle House for a meal alone. Perfect!
Excellent video..... Can't wait for part 2
We thankee.
The fire fighting chopper reminded me of a time a buddy and I hung out in the Sierras. We found a nice spot around a small lake, pulled out the fishing poles and then heard a chopper in the distance. Thankee.
my son and I love your videos.
Thankee to you both.
As always Thanks Shug for another great video.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Look into GoPro Silver 4. I was reluctant at first, but its a great camera. Using a Frame and not the big case, you can get excellent audio and the video is great. The silver has an LCD on the back. Can be controlled by phone with the app. Tons of mounts and such... They really are worth it
I have an older Go Pro Silver. Got my eye on a different camera. Thankee feller.
Man... The spot you camp on the first night reminds me so much of the outlook you and Hickery had for that epic lightning storm rode out and posted years back. Different spot? Hawksbill?
My favourite UA-cam channel of all time! Wooooobuddy from australia!
It is different. We are on Shortoff Mountain. Hawksbill is on up the Gorge. Thankee.

Whooooo Buddy))))
Great video as always! Seems your knee is holding up well. Take care!
Thanks. My knee is doing real good but I still always wear the brace backpacking to remind me.
That canyon view would be hard to leave, I might of called it there and popped a squat. Plus it inspired some pretty sweet moves on Kent's part.
Who humps in not just one but two frying pans?
Some fisherman more than likely...gorge trout!
Loves me some trout too. I find it's a nice secondary use for my tinfoil hat. *Royal* pain that pan is.
Great video, it's always fun! Thanks :)
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Shug and the Yellow Man...sounds like a mid 70s TV show...brought to you by SPAM!
That is funny!
Just curious, when you stand wicked close to the ledge like at 4:47 minutes, do you think, just for like a millisecond, "I know I have a good life and all . But what if I just squatted down and jumped off this bad boy with all my might."
I do not. But wonder if the void will snatch me off.....
I'm glad the void does not snatch you.
Awesome forest / canyons you have there! 🗻🌳👣
Yes...too spend time in it reminds us of that. Sweden is wnderful too.
Always like to watching you two shenannagerizin'. Camera audio sounds like a Coleman lantern.
Yes...no more with that camera!
One of the best parts of Fall... Shug and the Maple King together again.
More fun for us though. Our yearly meeting.
Any plans to do some trips out west? Shug and Ken take the rockies! Enjoy your adventures :)
No sir...all we can do to get trips in around here! sure do want to sometime though.
Great hike and a load of fun again :-) Cheers, Marc
Whooooo Buddy))))
I thought eating from the hammock was bad, but now this.........cotton.........that's next level, I'm just glad the maple King is at hand to save you from yourself. ;)

Good buy!
He is an Irate King.
Great video as always! What was your final decision regarding the ELPH 170?
Stunt camera. Back to my injured Canon 110HS......I switched at the end of this trip to the 110.
Pee-Can pie Shug? I think you may have been living up north too long. Another great video from the Hickery Bro's, thanks.
Pee-caan....pee-can...all good eatin"
Was planning a Turkeyweek trip. Will my DIY costco quilt cut it :)? Gonna need some serious gear or atleast more serious than S.florida gear.
There was a feller there this week with one and he was chilly. He added a pad to it. Sewn through baffles let in chill.
Nothing like a little hickery and shuggery goodness to get you out the doldrums. Cheers shugg
I abhot doldrums::::::
shugemery abhot??
Abhor!
This did it . I hear the rock jock calling my name . Great vid as per norm . Stay safe there Shug !!!
It did call your name. I heard it.
"Cover your entire body with Avon cologne." haha
Captain Beefheart and Zappa from "Bongo Fury"
shugemery "He was strictly commerciallllll"
Good to see you men back on the trail.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Having a fun rewatch of this, prior to the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass anniversary over here in Derbyshire, UK. I'll be up on the tops doing a yellowman jig and a Maple King crouch, with due obesience to the local spirits of course. As Burt would say, "You Don't Beat It. You Don't Beat This Rivahh!"
Party on Hickery style!
wished I'd knew you was going to be at the fair would've came to watch.
It was a Piedmont Scout Rendovous at the fairgrounds. Scouts only I think.
Hey Shug. How hard was it to pickup the Cambric trail? Is it marked at all? Good to meet you at the scout Rendezvous. Great show and gear talk.
Well...helps to know where it is for sure. Most folks start down it by accident if they head North on MST trail coming fro Shortoff heading for Table rock. Cambric is just before Chimney Gap coming from the South.
Had fun at scout gig too.
Hey Shug, as a man with a rounded face and a mane of flowing curls, boonie hats are all I can wear to look sharp. Specs on your hat in this video?
Columbia Bora Bora boonie hat
FYI, in another vid you mentioned peanut butter Pop Tarts are getting harder to find....well I cant find them anywhere. I got on line and found em on WalMarts website. Yep, ordered me several boxes for myself. WOOOO DADDY ARE THEY GOOOOD!
I order mine now too.
I've got the 280hs and it's been a very good camera. Rugged too. Only problem being that now after over 2 years of use, it needs to go to the shop to have dust cleaned out from the inside of the lens. That will cost me $100.
Dust in the lens....I may have that too!
Isnt it always windy as hell on the east ridge of the gorge? lol
Not always.
Good to see the Hickory Brothers in action.Thanks. ZZ.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Mighty fine video and tunes, Shug! Which one of your tracks was it that you opened up this video with? Been searching on SoundCloud for it!

Not many. You should go to linvillegorge.net and peruse to find all the good info.
There is water at the Water tree and gully pipe on Shortoff. Then no water until you get to Chimney Gap. No water at Table Rock
shugemery, that’s good scoop. Thanks!!!!
Download maps from linville site.
shugemery, I’m REALLY glad to have read trip reports at linvillegorge.net.
Just realized I left this comment from my backpacking channel and not my train channel. Ill try to find the Station Agent and give it a watch.
Gonna check out some train videos!
Sweet man! Next you'll be into control line planes, hammock camping and model trains. Ha
No time for anymore hobbies::::::
***** true, one can only have so many hobbies.

shugemery Well then sir, double kudos to you. Your videos are my favorites.

Risking life daily.....
You absolute ~madman~
It is good to see yall having a great time.
We sure did have a right goodie of a time. Precious time.
Got to check out a video stream of the Rendezvous show. I do hope you had the opportunity to hit Red Bridges BBQ Lodge while in Shelby. Good golly Reds is some good eat'n.
I went there twice! Hotel was across Hwy 74.
I hope to get a copy of some video from the show. Also, I used to live in Shelby.
shugemery sent you a link to a Facebook video I'll ask around and see if anyone has a copy on their computer.
Many thanks for that!
Love that stuff 1952 long time ago
It was cool to see and be there.
If I have even seen a dog look indignant, its right when that dog turned to look at you, Shug.
I would say more guilty....for crawling into Hickery's car. Sweet dog.
I was there about a week before the fire was started. Hate I missed ya!
lots of sassafras around! made some good tea!
Yessir...an abundance.
I agree, the elf 110 was by far better. I hear the noise you referred to. I also think the image stabilization was better with the 110 but your videos are always enjoyable no matter the filming device.
Thanks. Back to my injured 110 for now.....
Hey shug. .. check out hiking in Ohio pyle in Pennsylvania nice trails and beautiful sights... If you do let me know what u think. ..
Wish I had time for all trails!
North Carolina was blessed with a brief appearance of The Maple King!
He roamed and loomed.
Hey Shug
I had my colon removed recently and I'll tell ya, my morning constitutionals can be a might scary.
Ouch...but your attitude is stallar! Poop on>>>>
Another great vid!
Thankee.
