  • "Suddenly Last Summer" is a 1983 song by American new wave band The Motels. It was the lead-off single from their Gold-certified fourth album Little Robbers. It reached the #9 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart as did their other hit "Only The Lonely" in 1982. The Motels came out of the burgeoning Berkeley, California punk scene in 1975. Founder and lead singer Martha Davis says the song is about irrevocable change, the loss of innocence, the melancholy associated with not being able to go home again. Davis chose "Suddenly Last Summer" because she liked the alliterative sound of the title. The group's name slowly morphed into The Motels after being inspired by the motor inns that they passed along Santa Monica Boulevard.

One of the great, early 80s MTV bands. I thought they were great and I thought this song was fantastic!
