This movie was fantastic! This is a testament to James Gunn's vision and his ability to tell a complete story. The High Evolutionary to me is the 2nd best villain in the MCU next to Thanos. I didn't expect the ending we got, but glad the door has been left open.

I really did not expect this film to hit me the way it did. This film for me is the perfect example of how a final installment can elevate the prev work to damn near perfection. There’s so much to this film to mention that just gave me emotions of sadness/joy simultaneously that I can’t mention them all. Even the epic ending fight scene when all the Guardians fought the High Evolutionary was emotional for me. This film is also a great example of how to raise the stakes w/o having to kill off a main character.
For me having each character go in on him was them fighting in retaliation to what he did to Rocket and others like him. There’s so much more I’d mention but I’ll end it by saying 3 things: “Lyllah, Teefs, Floor, Rocket,” “Sky,” & “Rocket THE RACCOON!”

  • @MillennialMedia247

My favorite theme of the film was learning to accept what people can do and take what they do have to offer instead of focusing on things/characteristics they don't have. That scene where Mantis tells Nebula about why Drax matters or rocket saying high evolutionary just hated things the way they were.

Well, after seeing it yesterday with friends and family, we all loved it! The hype for once is correct - best Marvel movie since Endgame.
I see some complaining about the ending, but I found it bold and brave, not having a totally happy ending. Very different film, and my favorite of the three.

  • @lordofthebricks1

I love this movie. Since this is a spoiler review, here are my spoiler thoughts:
Even nobody dies in this movie, I cried like 4 or 5 times. Stakes are so high and You really believe anyone can die at any moment.
I never hated villain so much like in this movie, I wanted him to suffer so bad, which is a great for villain of course.
Score was a little bit dissapointing for me, but it has probably best sction sequence in all Marvel movies.
This movie is also probably darkest MCU movie, especially because of the things that are done to poor animals.
I am also glad when stakes are high and scenes are emotional, there is no humor to ruin it like in Thor 4.
I can't wait to watch it again, I would give it 9/10 for now

Last thing I want to mention and I think they did it in this movie too, but it was the earth cultural (specifically the music) in Quill’s mix tape that unlocked Gamora’s humanity. Frequent and renewed exposure with the other tapes allowed her to become a different person. That kinda showed in this last movie she heard some earth music and started to change. Was really hoping that dropped iPod Qwill saved was gonna be for her. Would have guaranteed another movie. At this point they gave her and him and easy out, have to hope Gamora and Qwill get an
    alternative resolution.

I cried so many times!!! Not many movies can do that to me. I'm super impressed by this movie. I don't want the MCU to be Connected anymore. To Quote Syndro from The Incredibles
" Everyone will have super powers everyone will be super. And with Everyone super...know one will be"
Still rings true to this day for the MCU. James Gun has made alot of characters super but he also gives them great character development. He also sets up moments and pays them off later!!!
This movie feels like there were actual stakes for our heros.

Regarding new - groot being “groots” child. That was basically James Gunns way of trying to legitimize his death in the 1st movie without saying it was a “fake death” or a resurrection like the MCU has done countless times and his excuse is “well he did really die, it’s his son”. We all know it was a fake death and that’s okay.

The High Evolutionary's yelling made sense to me because when you think about everything be did, he seemed like an abuser. He even did things that could be taken as nice--like when he showed Rocket the sky. Abusers do nice things sometimes that you think are benefitting you, but they're really benefiting them. Then when the victim does something that's seemingly little, the abuser freaks out on everybody and starts yelling. They feel like the reason something didn't work out for them is because someone else (usually the victim) messed things up, not themselves. Then when something bothers the person, or people, they'e abusing, they mock and undermine that person's feelings--acting like the victim's the emotional one (when Rocket was sad about his friend). He definitely seemed like a true abuser to me. He acted calm enough for people to let their guards down and trust him, but angry enough for them all to be manipulated into giving him what he wanted, then broken and confused once finally realizing his true nature. He even needed a whole planet for people to put him on a pedestal (the statue/dolls), but because nothing he does is based on anything truly good for anyone else, only himself, he's never truly happy (hence exhibiting the uncontrolled anger). And his need to be THE Guy, his ego won't allow him to live peacefully with the idea that something, or someone, lower than him did something that he couldn't.

When I heard this would have the first F-Bomb I was worried it would be for shock value alone, but when we got it in the car it caught me totally off guard and was really funny. I think the Adam Warlock scenes had enough to make sense and it sets him up within the guardian's world, but I feel it was done in such a way that also leaves him fairly untouched for another story and writer/director to shape into the character we are expecting, especially as we know that won't be Gunn. Excited to see what Poulter will do with this character.

And HE is not the replacement for God but only a character in Rockets story.

My two gripes, I would have liked to know more about high evolutionary, yes I suppose I could read the comics but often the comics and movies Are different. Also I just did a guardians 1 rewatch and when Quill’s mom dies there Are many people in the hospital room. I assumed they were cousins, and other family. Yet here he only has a grandad. I did like that at the end his grandad is alive and it is not him finding an empty house and a gravestone.

Personally, I’ve not been emotionally invested in an MCU piece since Infinity War/Endgame. Phase Four just didn’t do it for me, so I was really hoping for this to, at the very least, be entertaining. Oh boy, did it exceed my hopes. This was amazing. I laughed, I cried and punched the air several times during the final battle. The frustrating thing is that it’s the last time we get any Marvel from James Gunn and I wonder how they maintain this standard going forward without him. It *does* justify my excitement at his running DC, though.

I've seen it a few times now, i agree about it being the best of the 3. A lot of it has to do with Gunns ability to flashback the story and build the Rocket story. Also my main issue with the first is Ronin was pretty much wasted. I think that can be attributed to have more time and less of a leash to story tell. I'm not as big of a fan as most of Gunns Suicide Squad, i do love peacemaker though.

The High Evolutionary is a great villain I would put him on my list as my #3 favorite villain of all 32 MCU movies. James Gunn did a great job doing the Guardians movies each movie had an arc and it worked. I was very surprised that they gave us the new Guardians team and that Quill is back on earth and that he's coming back I hope they explain why he's back. What I find really encouraging going into Gunn’s Superman movie is that he knows how to write likable characters and he always puts a lot of heart into his movies. He knows how to balance tone really well, and can make a movie that may have some dark moments, but still finds a way to pull at your heart strings and make you feel good by the end.
My only worry is that he makes Superman into too much of a comedy. Every James Gunn movie I’ve seen has had that signature James Gunn style that I feel could clash with Superman’s character. But I feel like he’s good enough of a writer and director to know what will work for Superman, and this could be a chance for him to really push himself and show how talented he is as a filmmaker. I really feel like he’s gonna nail the Clark Kent part of Superman, which I hope we see more of a focus on in his movie. That human element is always what has made Superman a much more likable character for me, and I feel like it’s been largely ignored in recent years. And that’s where I could really see Gunn’s comedic style flourishing- with how Clark’s coworkers interact with him, and how he experiences the world as Clark Kent. And then seeing that juxtaposed with his other life as Superman, where I’m hoping a lot of the heart in Gunn’s writing will shine through.
I’m really curious to see how it turns out. I feel like Gunn wouldn’t have done it unless he had a really good idea for the story, so I have hope.

It’s the best Chris Pratt has been for a long time. He gets a lot of hate, and yeah he’s not the greatest actor of all-time! But he’s been really good as Quill and he nailed it with the emotion in this one.

Perfect video opening. I feel like Gunn is one of those directors like Paul thomas Anderson where we can see them grow literally after each project. I think guardians was so enjoyable for me because of his recent dc work, changing up and evolving his writing and it shows on his work. He’s becoming a master.

They are ended each characters arc perfectly. They didn’t overdue the comedy in the wrong moments. Got a sickening villain. The film took risks and I loved it. So much better than expected

My main gripe is that there wasn’t enough Rocket, but that’s just a result of the whole premise of the film. Adam Warlock felt like an afterthought, and while the villain was cool, he was a bit one note and undercooked. Overall though I loved it. Incredibly emotional. Just behind the first film for me.

In regard to Adam Warlock, there is a quick mention from his mother that The High Evolutionary took him out of his cocoon or egg to soon, and it's almost given as a throwaway but I think they should have reiterated that because it does contextualize the way he's played in the movie. This is essentially a premature version of Warlock

Went to AMC Guardians marathon. The first movie is still the best. The flow and the humor is much better and more balanced.
I felt the humor on the 2nd movie started to be too forced.
The best part of this movie is the wrap up. The ending for each character seems natural. The humor seemed forced again - throwing the ball and knocking the girl was stupid slapstick; cheap laugh. And I agree - everyone was screaming/angry - High Evolutionary, Nebula, Starlord, Mantis… but good story arc for Rocket. Overall, this is a mix for me.
The villains were pretty poor. After watching the movie, I still don’t know High Evolutionary’s powers. He is supposed to be smart and also gravity controlling power? This telekinesis power seems so generic - Kang had similar power and even Scarlet Witch and Phoenix?
Adam Warlock did nothing for me. He is supposed to be powerful, but clearly, it is not even in same tier as Captain Marvel?

@@Stickykobe420 Really? That is your answer? You know what I mean. It's like you are saying Tony Stark doesn't have any power because all his powers are coming from his armor when I asked what powers Iron Man has. That is not the question.
And the fact that you said his weapons are built into his body -there is no longer a separation between the being and his machines. If you have an implant or a transplant, you are not going to count the parts as different people. That is all part of you now.
Thanks for not having an useful answer.
