I'm an American living overseas, raised to agree with Kristian on the Olympics thing, however I work with people from all over the world and Rocha is right. Different countries have very different approaches to the USA. For example a French colleague took his 8 year old son to see Deadpool 3 yesterday. The kid has already seen one and 2. I think host nation should be given some leeway to display their own culture. If something doesn't fit another nation's broadcast standards or morality, they can censor it locally.

My only major concern is that it the news of RDJ returning as another character very likely means we are getting even more multiverse crap which is a bummer. If RDJ's return was a singular moment of the multiverse being shown and not the billionth time we have seen an example of the multiverse in the MCU it would be more exciting and interesting. Marvel desperately needs to get away from the multiverse, ASAP.
I cannot express how much I dislike the idea of him being doom. As a huge fan of this character and there is no synergy between RDJ and the Doom character if you know who Doom is you know he is the wrong fit. And thats before you include the additional Iron Man baggage!

A reek of high desperation indeed! As an MCU fan, I feel immensely conflicted about this decision. And for RDJ to accept the role rather than encouraging Marvel to cast a new actor for the Doom role is quite greedy. $100Mil per film?! Come on man-struggling people-dead people could use that pay! They lost Majors for KANG but it doesn't mean all is lost with KANG! Recast KANG with any good actor! Sidelining him after a 3 year build up?!? The multiverse stuff from the MCU is the only stuff that has definitively WORKED since Endgame. NWH almost made 2 billion, Multiverse of Madness made 900 million, Deadpool and Wolverine will make a billion, Loki is easily the best D+ show. Deadpool & Wolverine doesn't feel like an MCU movie. This is farewell to the Fox universe. TVA's presence doesn't change that. At the end, it's a separate movie just like Guardians 3, so either we treat both as MCU or neither.

Guardians is “not an MCU movie” where Deadpool is almost entirely about the characters and storylines from another studio. Lots of fan service and gobbledygook, but aside from featuring the multiverse it doesn’t seem to be forwarding the big plot for the next avengers movies. It’s entirely as much of its own thing as Guardians is. And yet they are BOTH MCU movies.
This is 100% true. When you actually look at it, the three best 'MCU' films from the last few years are the least MCU universe based. No Way Home used Sony's history with the character heavily, Guardians had almost zero to do with the larger universe and Deadpool/Wolverine was a love letter to its Fox universe. All the stuff that was tied in heavily to the MCU universe was mediocre. Quantamania, House of Madness, Captian Marvel 2 and so on.
marvel has already told the audience roughly how this is going to work in bits and pieces. RDJ is playing the victor von doom from the universe that the new fantastic 4 are from. its already been stated that the fantastic 4 are from another universe other than the secret timeline, and that its not a origin story and that its a retro futuristic timeline. thats why RDJ is perfect for this victor role as he is older now and the fantastic 4 we are getting are already established. in the fantastic 4 footage they showed at hall H, reed richards is studying the possibility of the multiverse. so whatever ends up bringing the fantastic 4 over to the sacred timeline also brings their victor von doom which of course will end up causing confusion when he shows up looking like tony stark. since the sacred timeline is missing its tony stark (who is most likely the anchor) this new victor/tony may become the new anchor of the sacred timeline which will mess everything up. We will still end up getting a new younger victor von doom in the future
Theory: It's revealed that Tony was the "anchor being" of the Sacred Timeline. The mcu is now dying and to solve this problem the Avengers pull a Stark variant into their universe. They slowly realize he's not Stark and he's actually Doctor Doom.
Oh I like this - I suspect Doctor Strange might be the anchor being as they referred to him as such lackadaisically in a previous film - but I think this is potentially better. My theory is that whatever happens, at the end of Doomsday or Secret Wars, the real Doctor Doom pulls out the skeleton of RDJ’s like Doom does to Thanos in the comics.
Yeah I think there is a time and a place for everything. I don't think it's appropriate for every single piece of media to have to conform to certain standards and show sexual orientation stuff. There's a time and a place and I don't think the Olympics is that place for it, especially with the stuff going in the boxing section.
I think Star Wars should be more upfront with the target audience for their shows. Andor is a more mature show, Acolyte & Ahsoka is for teens, Mando is a family show (something for everyone)etc

One of the many reasons why I prefer Scott Manz over him. Moving on, Robert Downey Jr coming back as Dr Doom for Avengers Doomsday & Secret Wars is like others have said, desperate. Will I watch him when the movies come out? Yes, of course, but right now, I'm not hyped for the movies. Also if they are going to stick to the release dates of both movies they need to start shooting it either late this year or the beginning of 2025.
I honestly think that it is probably both. It is definitely a desperate move because it is A) not coming from a position of strength B) they are paying an exorbitant amount for it to happen and C) it coincides with the return of the Russo's which is also a pivot from Marvel. None of that means it might not be what the MCU needs because something can be desperate but also a good move.

Part of the ceremony was art - Gojira melting faces with their brand of metal while playing on the side of a castle, and mixed with Bizet’s Opera Carmen, was AWESOME. I’ve seen Gojira in concert twice and they are INCREDIBLE, and I was hoping they were included in the ceremony because a) they are French and b) Metal is huge in France.

I actually think I might prefer Downey playing actual Victor instead of a variant version, because I think introducing a variant Doom before actual Doom kinda waters down that character and his eventual reveal. And I think there could be something kinda interesting and poetic about Downey playing a villain now. BUT if that is in the case, when the mask comes off he needs to be scarred up enough that we don't recognize him. They need to do with him what they did to Colin in The Batman. He definitely has the range for it.

My theory is God of Stories Loki(end of Loki season 2) is acting as the beyonders from the comics. They're pretty similar plot-wise. In Doomsday, Doom finds this out and goes and confronts and Kills him, taking his power and becoming God emperor doom of the multiverse, creating battle world.

My only major concern is that it the news of RDJ returning as another character very likely means we are getting even more multiverse crap which is a bummer. If RDJ's return was a singular moment of the multiverse being shown and not the billionth time we have seen an example of the multiverse in the MCU it would be more exciting and interesting. Marvel desperately needs to get away from the multiverse, ASAP.

NWH almost made 2 billion, Multiverse of Madness made 900 million, Deadpool and Wolverine will make a billion, Loki is easily the best D+ show. Deadpool & Wolverine doesn't feel like an MCU movie. This is farewell to the Fox universe. TVA's presence doesn't change that. At the end, it's a separate movie just like Guardians 3, so either we treat both as MCU or neither.

Guardians is “not an MCU movie” where Deadpool is almost entirely about the characters and storylines from another studio. Lots of fan service and gobbledygook, but aside from featuring the multiverse it doesn’t seem to be forwarding the big plot for the next avengers movies. It’s entirely as much of its own thing as Guardians is. And yet they are BOTH MCU movies.
This is 100% true. When you actually look at it, the three best 'MCU' films from the last few years are the least MCU universe based. No Way Home used Sony's history with the character heavily, Guardians had almost zero to do with the larger universe and Deadpool/Wolverine was a love letter to its Fox universe. All the stuff that was tied in heavily to the MCU universe was mediocre. Quantamania, House of Madness, Captian Marvel 2 and so on.
marvel has already told the audience roughly how this is going to work in bits and pieces. RDJ is playing the victor von doom from the universe that the new fantastic 4 are from. its already been stated that the fantastic 4 are from another universe other than the secret timeline, and that its not a origin story and that its a retro futuristic timeline. thats why RDJ is perfect for this victor role as he is older now and the fantastic 4 we are getting are already established.
in the fantastic 4 footage they showed at hall H, reed richards is studying the possibility of the multiverse. so whatever ends up bringing the fantastic 4 over to the sacred timeline also brings their victor von doom which of course will end up causing confusion when he shows up looking like tony stark. since the sacred timeline is missing its tony stark (who is most likely the anchor) this new victor/tony may become the new anchor of the sacred timeline which will mess everything up.
We will still end up getting a new younger victor von doom in the future

It's revealed that Tony was the "anchor being" of the Sacred Timeline. The mcu is now dying and to solve this problem the Avengers pull a Stark variant into their universe. They slowly realize he's not Stark and he's actually Doctor Doom.
Oh I like this - I suspect Doctor Strange might be the anchor being as they referred to him as such lackadaisically in a previous film - but I think this is potentially better.
My theory is that whatever happens, at the end of Doomsday or Secret Wars, the real Doctor Doom pulls out the skeleton of RDJ’s like Doom does to Thanos in the comics.

There's a time and a place and I don't think the Olympics is that place for it, especially with the stuff going in the boxing section.
I think Star Wars should be more upfront with the target audience for their shows. Andor is a more mature show, Acolyte & Ahsoka is for teens, Mando is a family show (something for everyone)etc

One of the many reasons why I prefer Scott Manz over him. Moving on, Robert Downey Jr coming back as Dr Doom for Avengers Doomsday & Secret Wars is like others have said, desperate. Will I watch him when the movies come out? Yes, of course, but right now, I'm not hyped for the movies. Also if they are going to stick to the release dates of both movies they need to start shooting it either late this year or the beginning of 2025.

Part of the ceremony was art - Gojira melting faces with their brand of metal while playing on the side of a castle, and mixed with Bizet’s Opera Carmen, was AWESOME.
I’ve seen Gojira in concert twice and they are INCREDIBLE, and I was hoping they were included in the ceremony because a) they are French and b) Metal is huge in France.

I actually think I might prefer Downey playing actual Victor instead of a variant version, because I think introducing a variant Doom before actual Doom kinda waters down that character and his eventual reveal. And I think there could be something kinda interesting and poetic about Downey playing a villain now. BUT if that is in the case, when the mask comes off he needs to be scarred up enough that we don't recognize him. They need to do with him what they did to Colin in The Batman. He definitely has the range for it.

RDJ is a great actor so he will definitely be a great Dr Doom but since this version is not variant of Tony Stark, why not use a different actor? Why use the same actor for two different roles if there is not link between them? Problem Marvel was having with their movies lately was NOT the actors, it was poor storytelling.

My theory is God of Stories Loki(end of Loki season 2) is acting as the beyonders from the comics. They're pretty similar plot-wise. In Doomsday, Doom finds this out and goes and confronts and Kills him, taking his power and becoming God emperor doom of the multiverse, creating battle world.
