    Nice review Todd. I haven't jumped up to a full blown coating yet. I am using Polishangel Viking Coat at the moment which I absolutely love. So easy to apply and remove and provides stellar results with really good hydrophobic properties. I maintain it with Viking Spritz and also have their Glisante' wash for bucket washing although I primarily am doing rinseless washes as of late because I keep my car super clean. I have a red Nissan 370Z with super soft paint so I do tend to get some minor wash marring (even trying to wash as safely as possible) but nothing a quick fine polish won't remove. Getting ready to try Polishangel Escalate which I just got to bring back the finish to a super high gloss and re-apply Viking Coat. I previously did the entire car about two years ago using Master Compound and Master Sealant followed by the Viking Coat (which, with proper maintenance) has lasted me two years, although to be fair, the car isn't driven too often and is a garage kept weekend toy. When I do jump up to a full coating, it will definitely be a Kamikaze coating.

    If we’re looking for the best durability possible, what would you suggest to do?
    I been thinking of using:
    1. Dedicated wheel coating as base layer
    2. Topped by a second layer of wheel coating or would you suggest using a professional grade, silica-based coating?
    3. And finalize with spray silica based “coating/ sealant”?

    Thank you for this video! I have three questions. Is quartz protection the same as ceramic protection? Are Gyon products a good solution? Is the Kamikaze the best out there, or is there something better? Since it doesn't have ceramic written on the packaging anywhere. Thank you in advance

      Ceramic / quartz / glass...it's all basically the same with different ingredients. Gyeon products are very good. Kamikaze coatings are very good. "Best" has different meanings to different people so you need to figure out what's most important to you (durability, looks, self-cleaning, etc).

    Todd,
    I applied a coating to freshly repaired and powder coated wheels about 12 - 18 months ago. How would I clean and prep for a reapplication? I’m aware of the usual wash, tar, iron remover but don’t know if I should look at a clay mit or some sort of polish to ensure the surface can bond to the coating as best as possible. The wheels are matte powder coat and I’ve never polished powder coat, unsure how it would respond.
    Thanks!

    How long does MOHS Evo last compared to Rim or Stance on wheels?

  • @AaronCN2
    @AaronCN2 Рік тому

    maybe this was asked I looked but didn't see it can you do this before adding tires and weights

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  Рік тому

      Preferably do it after wheel weights so you don't run the potential of adhesion issues.

    I would like to know what the expected durability is of these products if two layers are applied properly as explained in the video. Thanks.

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  4 роки тому +6

      Too many variables, however you could expect up to a year with a few layers of Rim, and 2+ with MOHS or Stance. It's also dependent upon how many miles you drive, what kind of brake pads are on the car, how extreme of heat cycles you go through, the kind of chemicals used to clean and maintain the wheels, whether you drive in salty winters, etc.

    What'll happy if we apply ceramic rim coating on exterior plastic parts or head lights?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  2 роки тому

      It most likely wouldn't bond as well as the dedicated trim coating.

    Any worries about wheel balancing weights not sticking to the barrel after coating?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  2 роки тому

      Only if you are trying to coat the wheels, then immediately balance the wheels with new weights!

    I just got a new set of painted wheels (OEM refurbished). Should I insert the valve stems before or after coating, or does it matter?

    Will coating the inner barrel produce an issue with adhering balance weights?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  2 роки тому +1

      If you try to do them immediately afterwards, then possibly yes. But if you're talking down the road 6 months or so, it shouldn't be an issue.

      You could use UR before Prep, but not as a replacement.

      I think the original wheel detailer stand came out from german UA-camrs Glossboss.
      They have a lot of solutions but do not sell them unfortunately.

    How does coating affect the adhesion of balancing weights?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  3 роки тому +1

      For new wheels, I'd mount and balance them first, then coat. If you apply coating, then later on down the road you change tires and re-balance, you should be fine.

      Yes, no problem. I find it easier after the tire is mounted, but you could go either way.

    If you have a stain or spot on oem wheels that cant be removed? Will these coatings make them worse or exaggerate them?
