- SCP-001 is an Apollyon Class anomaly also known as When Day Breaks.
SCP-001 is the designation given to the Sun, after an event occurred that resulted in roughly 6.8 billion casualties within the first twenty-four hours. Upon contact with visible light produced by SCP 001, living organisms liquefy at the point of contact, with the effect spreading until the entire organism is converted into a form resembling melted wax. Organisms exposed to SCP001 though, do not perish.

You kinda missed the detail that the class d managed to kill himself before his suit was ripped off, and that he was revived when the flesh removed his suit

@@Aryan-ck9lv this kinda is an important detail they left out, the fact that they didn't show it before showing that she didn't want to attract the flesh by shooting herself takes away any sense from that moment
Another reason that part was important was to show how horrifying SCP-001 truly is. That fact that the Class D committed suicide and still got brought back to life to get turned into goo, shows us that not even suicide can save you from them. “Death is Compromised”.

Seriously, props to the person who wrote this story and created this SCP. They did a great job! While many others are certainly terrifying, this is the only SCP that fills me with pure, raw, existential dread.

Meanwhile, there is a dreadnaught on Jupiter who is absolutely going to fix itself and annihilate Earth. It's not written as a "what if", the page lists its rate of repair and the estimated lifespan of the planet is just a few decades.
When does When Day Breaks happen? When the *sun* has a bad day? It gets a few degrees too hot? It's too ambiguous to be a real threat.

"When Day Breaks" reads like an analogy for depression, but told from a standpoint where 'normal' is depressed. Everyone who isn't depressed tells you sun will make you feel better, and seems like one big happy community, but it feels wrong to you. Even down to the fact that the only way out seems like dying, but not wanting to use a gun for fear of drawing the attention of the others.
I have to admit I never thought of it like that, but thank you. It's an interesting interpretation

I feel like everyone forgets that final little attachment story that describes the Sun turning into SCP-001 specifically to protect us from some other jealous god. Almost turns the whole thing heartwarming. We're not destroyed, we're evolved under the Sun's love, together forever.

The irony is 106 becomes the angel of death during this with the librarian. The sun thing even reanimates u after death so u cant rest. They come get you before death and let you die and burry you in 106s dimension. The sun tries to come into his dimension and he kicks it out like it's nothing and then stands out in the sun in our dimension and is unaffected by it. There's a whole story to this that's going on. This only scratches the surface

I think it was that D-class, actually. When the 001-A was peeling off the protective suit, he shot himself in the head. The 001-A just kept taking the suit off, and the D-class was instantaneously revived and began melting.

Plus the Sphere has been pretty much replaced by the Dyson Swarm. Much, much easier (but still in no way easy) to collect energy. A Sphere is almost certainly beyond our technological capabilities even if every single human worked together on it.

Well we don’t really know. They could all be real. Or none of them could be real. SCP-001 is the first SCP but they also don’t want us to know what it is. They may have fabricated most of these stories or they could be recorded from The Foundation from alternate dimensions. We will never know the truth.
It’s possible that they are, but we don’t know. A lot of fakes were created to throw people off, so the real scp 001 might remain a mystery forever

bit late but in the original proposal, it's mentioned that the people in the facility caught the escape of all the keter-class scps into the light, and got to watch them all melt into blobs of flesh. apparently, scp-001 also nullifies all the unique properties of other scps, so the scp blobs aren't any different from the regular blobs.

The Worst part of this Scp which is absolutely horrifying is that you can't even escape it at death. When the D class was told to go outside, the blob grabbed him, then the d class shot himself, but then the blob went inside his body and brought him back to life, he came back screaming and screaming. The Scp wants everyone to suffer.

This was the scp that got me into the fandom, and one of my all time favorites so far. The idea of not being capable of exposing yourself to any kind of natural light - a thing we’ve always been used to - is horrifying.

Fun thing: Staying bundled up is actually a way to keep cool if the outside temperature is extremely high. Wear light clothing to bounce off as much light as possible, and cover your body entirely, and it works similar to a house's insulation during the summer. Consume plenty of water though.

You actually forgot to include a terrifying detail, although it was probably to make it more marketable.
The DCLASS sent out actually killed himself before the mass got to him, but then the mass tore open his suit anyways and it brought him back to life to melt away in the sun.
This SCP won't even let people die, it just want to have them suffer for eternity, THAT'S what makes it truly terrifying.
...Well, the SCP-001-A seem to be rather happy about what happened to them...
And if we believe that the story heart&sol is canon, then the sun did this because she was an overprotective mommy... So, the sun does not want us to suffer, it just loves us too much?

my family was in the corridor of the room and all of a sudden, one of them passes through a hole in the floor.
it then starts to get inside and I block the door as I tell my family to lock themselves in the bathroom.
it then starts leaking through the door and then the dream ended at that moment.
i dont know what would have happened if the dream continued, but it would probably be me consumed by the blob.
