This might backfire. Because the person sent in to do that is not *really* having a conversation about protocol. They'd be trying to be manipulative and get the anomaly to spill information. But the anomaly is always better than the person it interacts with, that includes being better at manipulation. So while that researcher might leave with a smug face about all they've learned, putting it into practice might be a bad, bad idea.
It seems that it can't explain or have a better understanding of them than the researchers. Since they are also anomalies, it's knowledge of them can't be greater than what humanity knows. It's kinda hinted that it can only know more about a subject if there is a greater level of knowledge that exists in the world. It could also be straight up incapable of gaining more knowledge of things that aren't mundane or are anomalous.
Theory: It can't affect other abnormalities, that's why hates and fears them. In the case of the ones that can't do harm to it, 056 would not be able to reflect anything to feel superior, and it seems to delight itself when it makes itself look superior, feeding it's superiority complex, but if you put it with 999 for example, after the tickle monster make 056 feel great for a while, it will most likely hate that it after, seeing it as a humiliation. On the other hand, it also knows that something like 682 could probably tear it to pieces and 056 it's well aware it can't turn into nothing the lizard would care or that could stop it. Although, in the case of 682, maybe the indestructible lizard don't just murder it if it finds out what 056 is, considering that 682 is also a psychopath that made other psychopaths cry by just talking, i can totally see him deciding to just tease 056 for it's own enjoyment.

This SCP sounds a lot like a personification of Vanity. It is always better looking, or smarter, or stronger, etc., and always wants to be the best and have the best. It feeds off humans, because humans are flawed, easily manipulated, and vulnerable. It hates or fears other SCPs, because they are not human, and therefore cannot be so easily manipulated. Also, being a personification of a human emotion, interacting with creatures/beings that are creations of humanity themselves, it cannot alter itself to be better than them.
Weak spots: If you hug 056, it will give you a better hug. If 056 flexes, you can have someone to be proud of instead of feeling like a incompetent loser. If something heavy blocks your way and you can’t get around it then lifting it in front of 056 will cause him/her to lift it and then you can be on your way. Got any to add?

An interesting consistency is that SCP-056 will take the form and skillset just above whatever it is exposed to... But theoretically, none of these abilities are actually what is going on. Language for instance, might be dependent on the speaker. It's physical abilities likewise are dependent on someone setting a standard for it to best, and might prove an interesting limitation, however, there is no evidence that SCP-056 retains it's abilities from one transformation to another. Also note it changes form to best an aggressive target, but only just above what it is being presented with.

If you were to place 056 in front of like Able for example (SCP-076), it would be incapable of changing to one up 076 hence why he fears other anomalies like him because he can't one-up them (unlike normal humans).

I'd imagine that SCP-056 would be incredibly frustrated in the presence of a true practicioner of asceticism. 056 openly craves creating a feeling of inferiority in others and always chooses a form it deems as aesthetically superior. Even if that means having no form at all. Someone who has nothing, wants nothing, is unconcerned with status and is generally content would be an interesting challenge for 056.

Interesting take on the theme "Anything you can do, I can do better!" And this isn't a boast, it's fact. A perfect reflection of desire, envy, and vanity. This is what you could be. If you come back inproved, it would only show how much more you could go. It's like a mimic or changeling, but instead of a copy it's better! If it inherently knows more about something than it's conversation partner. Just start sending in the world's experts on everything. With specific questions they need answers to ahead of time. Especially for SCPs themselves. They can learn everything they want to know, while bothering it. And the biggest down side is some bruised egos.

That would take some major mental discipline in order for something like that to be pulled off. It does raise a cool idea for a mental gauntlet though, since being able to weather a barrage of that magnitude would probably help with defeating other will-based anomalies. To answer your question though, I think 056 would start becoming more irate and put in more effort with every failed attempt to sway the subject to feel inferior.
Everybody who is at peace with their imperfections, has a strong core of self-confidence built on some other or small part of their persona. A scientist who is physically unattractive might be able to live with that because they know they're smart. Or a social worker who is neither smart nor attractive might find confidence in the fact that they're good people, who have helped many others. Or a Buddhist who is none of that might still find strength in their humility as an imperfect human. The entity might find where this core of self-confidence lies, and directly attack that instead. The scientist's intelligence would be questioned and proven diminutive, the social workers actual kindness and generosity would be identified as ultimately self-serving and the Buddhist would be called an insignificant flesh-sack whose inner peace is a blanket to blind them from the meaninglessness of their existence.

An interesting consistency is that SCP-056 will take the form and skillset just above whatever it is exposed to... But theoretically, none of these abilities are actually what is going on. Language for instance, might be dependent on the speaker. It's physical abilities likewise are dependent on someone setting a standard for it to best, and might prove an interesting limitation, however, there is no evidence that SCP-056 retains it's abilities from one transformation to another. Also note it changes form to best an aggressive target, but only just above what it is being presented with.

If you were to place 056 in front of like Able for example (SCP-076), it would be incapable of changing to one up 076 hence why he fears other anomalies like him because he can't one-up them (unlike normal humans).

That sewing man reminds of this one movie where a guy can shape-shift into any person as long as he is wearing the persons shoes. Instead of the sewing man needing shoes to shape-shift into someone, he doesn’t really require anything.
This is a really fascinating idea for an SCP. I wonder if the SCP could use it's psychological analysis to determine the staff member with the lowest "ego" / lowest inclinations towards jealousy, and see if SCP-056 is still able to cause this emotional response.
I'd imagine that SCP-056 would be incredibly frustrated in the presence of a true practicioner of asceticism.
056 openly craves creating a feeling of inferiority in others and always chooses a form it deems as aesthetically superior. Even if that means having no form at all.
Someone who has nothing, wants nothing, is unconcerned with status and is generally content would be an interesting challenge for 056.

If it inherently knows more about something than it's conversation partner. Just start sending in the world's experts on everything. With specific questions they need answers to ahead of time. Especially for SCPs themselves. They can learn everything they want to know, while bothering it. And the biggest down side is some bruised egos.

That would take some major mental discipline in order for something like that to be pulled off. It does raise a cool idea for a mental gauntlet though, since being able to weather a barrage of that magnitude would probably help with defeating other will-based anomalies. To answer your question though, I think 056 would start becoming more irate and put in more effort with every failed attempt to sway the subject to feel inferior.

Everybody who is at peace with their imperfections, has a strong core of self-confidence built on some other or small part of their persona. A scientist who is physically unattractive might be able to live with that because they know they're smart. Or a social worker who is neither smart nor attractive might find confidence in the fact that they're good people, who have helped many others. Or a Buddhist who is none of that might still find strength in their humility as an imperfect human. The entity might find where this core of self-confidence lies, and directly attack that instead.
The scientist's intelligence would be questioned and proven diminutive, the social workers actual kindness and generosity would be identified as ultimately self-serving and the Buddhist would be called an insignificant flesh-sack whose inner peace is a blanket to blind them from the meaninglessness of their existence.
