@@americanpatriot8996 I purchased a Tazer JL Mini Programmer . This allows you to tab into the computer and change many setting, such us locking the lockers in 4hi, changing tire size or gears. One cool feature is the light show. Check it out.
I came to the comments to ask if it’s possible to have both. It looked like this plugs into the same spot as the Tazer JL mini. No? I’ll have to re-watch the Tazer install video.
I was concerned about heat or punctures happening to the air hoses so I protected them with wire loom which is made to protect wiring. They worked great I had to buy 2 different sizes cause in the main engine bay I kept both hoses in one big wire loom I think 1/2 inch and inside under the dash I used a smaller size for the individual hoses and it looks clean and now double protected. Cause if one of those hoses springs a leak or won’t hold the pressure you won’t be able to open the hood. That sucks but I just got the wrangler 392 and couldn’t use the mopar key lock cause the front camera is in the way so this was the next best thing. I don’t like those cheap latches with keys. But thanks for the video it helped me out.
Glad the video helped you out. I thought about putting the hoses into a wire loom but was in a hurry on installation day. Definitely not a bad idea. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your build!
The version I just bought has an emergency bike style cable for manual release, in case of a dead battery or otherwise, for anyone who finds this comment in the future.
@@santacruzoverlander I paid $89 for the bolt lock. Yes it uses the “flip out key” on the key fob vs the remote function. For me Id rather not rely on the electronic mech to get under the hood, just my opinion.
Yes. I totally understand your decision. I’m just thankful that we as Jeep owners have the most aftermarket to choose from. Cheers! Thanks for watching.
Yes it would be cheaper but I don’t want to use a physical key to get under the hood. When you lock/unlock yours doors with the key FOB the hood does the same. Thanks for watching.
The 1st version that I installed uses a 12v plug and an external battery source. The other option is the 2nd version which has a manual pull hood release from inside cab. Hope that helped. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Hey Doug, yes the hood locks and unlocks with the doors using the FOB. If your doors are unlocked so is the hood. If your doors are locked so is the hood. Cheers!
Incredibly detailed installation and video. You made it look simply easy. And thanks for providing the link to purchase the item. Have you thought about putting a Sunrider soft top on your Jeep to replace the freedom panels, and what do you think about the Sunrider soft top? I have a Jeep and was considering a Sunrider soft top and wanted an independent opinion on it.
Thanks for watching. Hopefully it was informative. I personally take my hard top on and off a few times a month when the weather is nice. The sunrider would complicate that too much for me. If you invest in a “rollnjack” like I did then taking the top off and on is a breeze. Hope that helped. Cheers!
Very nice. Not familiar with the company, but I may have to give this one a shot. Thank you! I wonder if theres a way to power it other than OBD-2. I already have so much other crap plugged in.
Just had my battery stolen out of my 07jk by a tow company. I donated a 07 liberty to cars for kids. Long story short they stole my battery because the battery was dead in the liberty. Instead of jumping it or God forbid getting their own mine was easily accessed
@santacruzoverlander it was an immediate lesson and rough welcome to the Jeep Life lol. I will say I'm enjoying the Jeep a lot. It Was worth all the trouble to keep my uncles baby and his memory going!!
If you donate a vehicle to a charity and the battery is dead, I don't think it's legal for them to steal the battery out of your vehicle. Did you call the police?
Nice it looks great and great job on this video. I have a Sport with no extra. So I have no key fob. However, I bought the key hood lock and honestly they're horrible. I can easily open it with a pliers or needle nose. As long as the thief doesn't know about it I'm okay. So if you're looking for my Wrangler, I live in Germany.... Germany
Those hood locks are only for show. You can bypass them easily with a long nose pliers. I learned that by forgetting to give my keys to the dealer. I bend them back into place every time I forget.
Hi, this is a really helpful video. I did purchase the lock and install it. However after the install I notice that the airlines still on front of the jeep which you can see.. if the thief cut the air line will do that release the hose pressure and left the lock mechanism open? Keep the great work Thanks Add a reply..
No, there is not a constant pressure in those two hoses so it wouldn’t matter. I highly doubt anyone would even notice the hoses. If someone really wanted to get under the hood they could use a sawsall. Thanks for watching.
great video but as today's Robbers get smarter they just need to scan your Keyfob while you are asleep. I recommend you use a faraday bag and put your keyfob in it overnight and or not use your vehicle. I've done this for all my Jeep Grand Cherokees and JL.
Good question. The kit comes with a 12v jumper cable that you would have to plug into a 12v source. A portable battery like a “goal zero” or your buddys 12v cigarette lighter. Appreciate the question!
@@santacruzoverlander thanks for the reply but what i meant was if the car was locked and battery dead. will the remote work? since hood internal mechanism works on car battery that is dead.
If your car is dead, the key fob doesn’t work. You would have to use the key on your key FOB to open your car and then use the provided 12v plug adapter from Lasfit to your friends vehicle or portable battery. Hoped that helps.
Thanks for the criticism. I can’t recall steps that I missed. Can you give me some insight. I’m a total beginner by the way. If there’s a will there is a way I tell myself. Cheers!
I setup up the alarm to go off if the hood is open when the alarm is armed. This devise is a good alternative.
How did you do that ?

After all these years and jeep doesn’t have this built in already. At least a battery bolt clamp. They’ll raise the price on Jeeps though.
Right! It’s a Jeep thing. Lol
Nice that now they have a manual cable override in case battery is dead but JLs with integrated front camera are a no go with this

I installed the Bolt hood lock which pairs with your Fob key. It’s extremely sturdy and my guess at least a third of the cost. Works great
I Lasfit hood lock is about $250. I don’t know how much yours cost but don’t you have to the fob key to open the hood?

It doesn't work if you have front camera. so this one will fit
for the price Jeep is selling this car, they must have their own security solution to avoid theft.
👍🏻 agreed.
Would it be cheaper just to get the ones with the locks so you can lock them in instead of having to put up freaking whole alarm?.

I suppose so. Not sure why you would go that direction. Using the key fob to lock and unlock your hood seems to be the best option.
I bought this today and while it does what i want, i cant shake the feeling that this is some major over-engineering for what is a simple solution.. 😅
True, I could have bought a master lock.🤣
So it is always plugged into the obdii?
Yes, it's always plugged in. However, it is a passthrough plug so if you need to plug anything into the obdii plug you still can.
This answered my question also. So you can have this and a tazer for the pin lock, correct?
