I mean they have hinted at it with the backdrops for some time now. You can often see either the Danish/Norweigian Æ or Ø or the Swedish/Finnish Ä or Ö and the Å (which all four languages use) sometimes.
But the Danish really want to stand out, it would seem. On a standard QWERTY keyboard, both Norweigian and Swedish/Finnish keyboards have the key for Ø/Ö next to L, then Æ/Ä next to that with Å above. Danish keyboards switch the Æ and Ø around, so Ø is to the right of Æ.
Despite having the exact same characters as Norweigian and analogous characters to Swedish/Finnish, it is very hard for a Finn, Swede or Norweigian to type on a Danish keyboard.
Despite three out of four (6 if you count Iceland and Sami, though those have slightly different character sets) having unified the position of ÅÄÖ, it is not an official "layout unification". It just happened over time as the countries just happened to copy from each other.
But because Danish keyboards have been like this for so long, they don't want to change it. It would be quite disruptive to suddenly change two characters around.
So because of a lack of foresight in the early days of keyboard layouts, Scandinavian keyboard manufacturers and character encoders worldwide are stuck with writing a separate layout for each of the Scandinavian countries, save for Sweden and Finland, the only two countries that seems to agree on a single layout. Which is funny, considering Finnish is the "outlier language" here, so vastly different from the other Scandinavian languages.

As someone who absolutely adores QI, i was kinda devastated when Stephen left, but it only took one episode to see that as far as possible replacements go, Sandi is stellar. My only thing is I find Stephen's voice much more soothing. But seriously, no idea who else could've taken that role.

14:10 the funniest thing about this is she WASN’T in the right chair. They hadn’t bothered to buy a new chair. So Sandi was sitting on top of quite a few cushions on a chair purpose-built to hold Stephen’s height and weight, and show the right amount of him for the every frame from all yh cameras.

According to one of my Philosophy lecturers, during some of Danish history elderly dying men in bed were given a sharp little knife, and a relative would disguise himself and the family would stage a raid. The disguised man would rush the old man in his bed, and as long as the old man was grasping his knife and making the effort to fight back, then the younger relative would kill him. This satisfied the community definition of 'dying in battle', and it was expected the elderly relative would be admitted to Valhalla after death.

You probably already know but Sandi was the host of The News Quiz, a weekly comedy panel show on BBC Radio 4, for 10 years prior to her taking over from Stephen on QI. A lot of the guests on QI have appeared multiple times over the years on The News Quiz, including this episodes entire panel. The tone on TNQ was/is very similar to QI. Sandi was the perfect replacement for Stephen.

As an aside, I've long been suspicious of those "What is your XXXXX name" posts that float around social media. Like, a lot of people use their mother's maiden name or first pet name as part of their passwords (apparently) so these memes seem like they would be the perfect vehicle for some nefarious data scraping.

Regarding the bit about doctors using informal acronyms that patients don't understand, I've heard a few of those from my mother, who said that, at least at her practice, these were phased out when patients got electronic access to their files and could start asking questions about what those acronyms meant. There were a few amusingly flippant or offensive ones, but the only one that stuck in my memory was the abbreviation for Downs Syndrome: WLK, or "weird looking kid".

Sandi asked Phill to be on her first show as they're close friends.
I also think she made it a requirement that there always be at least one female guest on each show.
as for learning how to manage Gyles (or other guests)... Sandi has hosted a bunch of other shows over the years and knows pretty much everyone in the bussiness - including Gyles. I don't think you can work in UK television and not know him.
It also helps that she's well versed in improv. In case you didn't know she appeared on a lot of episodes of the original UK version of Whose Line is it Anyway - hosted by another QI regular: Clive Anderson.

This may or may not have been the first episode that Toksvig presented. It may have been shown as the first episode simply because it was a good one and it had references to Stephen Fry. It would have been odd for there to be no mention of him but it would have been stranger still to shoehorn a reference in, so when his name came up naturally in this episode, it made it a good candidate to be the first one shown.

The feeling of one toe missing is quite interesting indeed.
In a very early episode, I think it might even have been in Series A, they discussed the senses of the human body. There are way more than 5, by the way.
One of these senses is a sense of always knowing where your body parts are. But you don't have this for all body parts.
For example, if you ask yourself where your tongue is at this moment, you can feel about half of it, but the half that is actually attached to the rest of your body isn't part of that sense. You need to bump it into any other part of your body to feel where it is, and that is just from the tactile feeling of something touching it.
This is how we know this "autobiolocation" sense is a real thing.
Some of us (I say us, because I am among them) have a similar thing with our toe. Most common is what I have, the pinky toe. We don't feel where it is unless it is feeling something else. Unfortunately, this is most commonly the corner of a table or a doorframe.
This is theorized to be the very reason the pinky toe so often gets stubbed, and why about half the people never stub their pinky toe.

The way I remember the reaction in the UK to the change in host was this:
BBC: Stephen Fry is leaving QI.
UK: What!? No. This is terrible. No one can replace Stephen Fry. This is going to ruin the show.
BBC: Sandi Toksvig is going to replace him.
UK: Oh... actually that sounds great.

Mine too. I was pretty distraught, although I understood Stephen needing to protect his mental health from the exhausting taping schedule. I was kind of neutral when I heard Sandy would take the chair, then I saw her first show, and oh my universe, she was perfect. Not the same person as Stephen, but very much bringing similar energy. And she shone as the presenter even more than she had shone as a guest.

At that point, the most senior (so to speak) guests would've been Jo Brand, Phill Jupitus, Bill Bailey and Jimmy Carr. Except for Bill, all had been in at least an episode, usually two or more, episodes each series. (Bill famously took a yearlong sabbatical from panel shows, so he sat out the D series.) Since this episode, Jo and Jimmy have missed a series, probably due to scheduling issues.
Unfortunately, QI has a pretty long list onetime regulars who got pretty much phased out and have barely, if ever, been back, including Dara O Briain, Rob Brydon, Clive Anderson, Rich Hall, John Sessions and Jeremy Clarkson. Sean Lock, too, but that was him opting not to do any more panel shows other than his own. Dara once said to me on Twitter ages ago that he was surprised (and, it seemed to me, a bit hurt) when he wasn't invited back.

I like David Mitchell’s style of comedy, but I don’t think he would be a good host for this show.
Between Stephen and Sandi, they’ve gone with a stern-but-kind parental figure, letting the panelists be the playful “kids”.
David has been host on other shows, but he leans into angry, annoyed, and frustrated for his humor. (He isn’t those things, but his style uses them more than would be healthy for this format of show.)

the show's unlikely to make it so series Z, on the BBC, at least with the current host and stooge. The format being both elitist and failing to meet the BBC's new accelerated Creative Diversity mandate (minimum of 20% of on-screen talent must not be pale). Expect the series renewal talks with Talkback + John Lloyd, conceding to either modifying the format, and cast, or the show possibly going elsewhere.
