"You drew stars around my scars" means that he makes her happy and forget about the painful memories of her past and now he is the cause of her scar to bleed again. The irony.

There’s a line in another song of Taylor’s called Lover. It’s “with every guitar string scar on my hand, I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover”, and I think the metaphor for it is similar. Her explanation is in life we all accumulate scars from our past. It could be scars we’ve gotten from past relationships, mistakes we’ve done or just shit we all go through in life and not only does her lover, Joe, accept it, he doesn’t care at all and loves her unconditionally.
In cardigan though, the guy she made up in the song is the same one that hurts her in the end. So I think that’s what she meant in the line “you drew scars around my stars but now I’m bleeding”.
"when you are young they assume you know nothing" - the narrator uses this to show how external actors assume that she must have been blinded by love or naive since she ends up being cheated on but in the bridge the narrator reverses it and tells the audience that she actually was aware of her significant other's reluctancy to wanting to grow up/have a more mature relationship (peter pan line) and she lists off everything she expected to happen, which actually does happen as confirmed by the follow up songs in the trilogy. it almost serves to show her emotional maturity and that despite what people thought she wasnt just dumb and in love
"You drew stars around my scars" almost works to show how close and intimate the relationship was but in relation to the following line it shows why their actions hurt the narrator so much - the idea of those closest to you can hurt you the most
Yes this is the part of love triangle from Bettys perspective(The girl who got cheated)! Now react to August( This song is from the side chicks perspective) and then finally Betty(Its from the guys(James) perspective.)! And “You drew stars around by scars but now im bleeding” means he basically made her feel better despite her insecurities, but at last he cheated on her so it was all worthless. Now shes bleeding)

stars around around scars is like saying taking something ugly and making it beautiful and pleasing.
it’s also an assumption that he wasn’t afraid of the things that made her who she was

Cardigan is also thought to be a love letter from taylor to her fans once you dig under the layer of the love triangle. The first verse, each line goes with each of her previous albums in artistic ways. Also she knows her fanbase more than anyone could and so she works so hard to continue to keep us engaged. We do cause her pain. She writes her personal heartbreak stories into songs and we draw stars around her playlists... but those are her scars. Everytime she is begged to sing some of those hard hitting songs she has to relive that heartbreak. We put on her albums and call her our favorite like her music is the cardigan for us and we help her on her lowest times and are like the cardigan for her. There is so much more I could say about it, but I have already typed out a lot.

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s insane the level of detail she puts in these songs! I think what sets her apart is that her songs are so perfectly written, that they can have all sorts of interpretations and or purposely have two meanings.. 🤯

i was thinking, "you drew stars around my scars but now i'm bleeding" made me imagine him drawing stars around her scars to make it beautiful but now that he's hurt her and made her old scars bleed again, the blood probably erased the stars he drew. as in, the things he did to make her forget about her past pain was pointless because he hurt her the same way and made her experience the pain again.
