    Cardigan is part of a trilogy, a story about 3 teens, Cardigan is the POV of Betty, the song "Betty" is the POV of James, and "August" is the other woman's POV.

    folklore is a mix of both: stories from characters she created and also about her real life! peace is about her, cardigan is part of a love triangle story containing three songs: august, cardigan and betty.

      It's so much clearer now that I understand the trilogy format. I really enjoy her blending fiction with reality.

    Hi you're about to be treated with a massive awakening and true appreciation if you continue. Please do so fun and enjoyable to watch people shed the ignorance and misconceptions of Taylor to an awe respect and better understanding. I appreciate you.
    Understand for regular fans true on Folklore there are a running theme of folk stories. Deep dive Swifties perceive most of these masterpieces are also layered with Taylor's life...
    Take these lyrics from Cardigan on the surface layer this song is part of a trilogy of songs from 3 perspectives of a love triangle. ..I will try not and spoil it wait til you get there.
    On a other layer this song is also about Taylor and her fans...during Taylor's dark times we Swifties stood by her and said she was our favorite...she knew we would come back to her. This is the brilliance of Taylor Swift so far no one does what she can that makes her a superior genius and unmatched.

      I appreciate you taking the time to write this out. I appreciate you too! I'll do my best to listen for any hidden meanings in her lyrics. I'll have to rely on Taylor's fan's for more gaps in my knowledge.

      My go-to Swifties, Emily and Bonny from Chats and Reacts, helped me realise that the opening verse of this song with seemingly random visual snippets of aesthetics actually refer to different eras of Taylor leading up to Folklore:
      Vintage tee, brand new phone (Red)
      High heels on cobblestones (1989)
      Sequin smile, black lipstick (Bleachella/Reputation era)
      Sensual politics (Lover)

    Not sure is anyone's told you this yet, but she wrote the treatment for this video, directed it, and did her own hair & makeup because Covid. I think her channel has a behind the scenes video of it. It's always fun to watch her creative process and I'd highly recommend all of her BTS stuff. 💗

    i just got this video recommended and i'm really glad i did! the way you broke down the lyrics was excellent. i'm definitely gonna stick around to see what you have to say about the other folklore tracks.
    some of the most popular songs off of folklore i.e. songs that will probably get more attention/responses are "august", "my tears ricochet", and "betty".
    the songs "cardigan", "august", and "betty" explore a teenage love triangle from 3 different perspectives. which is really creative.
    also, cardigan was the single off of folklore. this album has a sister album that was released in the same year titled "evermore". the single off of evermore is a song called "willow" its music video is *sort of* linked to this one. which is interesting. i hope you'll get to it at some point.

    “Peter losing Wendy” is an allusion to Peter Pan. Peter lost Wendy bc she (Betty) wanted to grow up and become an adult, while he (James) decided to stay young and “naive”. Betty couldn’t change the ending bc at the end of the story Peter Pan does not get to stay with Wendy, as he loses her, she leaves him to become a mature woman who now reflects over the things that she knew back then, even if they told her she didn’t know it all. love ur vid

    Thanks for the thoughtful reaction. A natural next step would be reacting to "Willow" from folklore's sister album, evermore. It picks up where this one left off. And doing her full folklore album in track order will be a magical experience for you. You can find a complete playlist of the live video versions by searching for "folklore: the long pond studio sessions David M." Good luck with your Taylor journey. I hope you find it as remarkably satisfying as I did.

  • @dariadaniellemusic
    @dariadaniellemusic Рік тому +5

    A lot of Taylor's discography, but especially folklore and evermore, are amazing because the lyrics have so many details that even after years of being a fan of hers I'm constantly learning new things and making new realizations. For example, in the bridge of cardigan she says "I knew you, tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy." Someone just pointed out to me last year that this has to do with her saying "When you are young they assume you know nothing" and proceeding to list off all the things she _does_ know, whereas in betty (the song written from the guy's perspective) he says "I'm only 17, I don't know anything." So while James, the guy, is embracing being young and using it to excuse his immaturity and foolishness (Peter Pan staying in Neverland), Betty knows better and doesn't think it's an excuse (Wendy going home and growing up).

    I think Swifties would have preferred and appreciated it if you had followed the order of the album. Of course, it's too late now, and it's not a dealbreaker really (lots of people heard Cardigan first because it was the single), but I suggest that moving forward, you follow the sequencing of songs on the album to gain the full experience.
    May I also suggest that you balance your audio a bit? I think the music video plays too loudly compared to when you comment. I think the usual practice is even to have the audio of the music video considerably softer than your voice's audio.
    Hope you don't take my comments negatively! I really enjoyed your video and gave you my feedback only because I want you to succeed!

    • @nickforell1
      @nickforell1  Рік тому +3

      Thanks for the feedback! I'm learning as I go so I appreciate any insight. I'll fiddle with audio settings and start at the beginning of the album to try and preserve the integrity of how she planned the album. :)

    Its difficult to appreciate any song if you pause this much. 1st Verse, Pause, 2nd Verse, Pause, Bridge and end, discussion. That should be how you do it. Otherwise it's difficult to watch. Sorry but not being rude. Just a suggestion.
