As you clearly explained - circuit mender will always be (at least) a two for one, no matter what happens. And this on a 2/3 playable in all decks it's really strong.
I had my very first prerelease yesterday! 2nd place finish, went 3-1 and Okiba Reckoner Raid was one hell of an overperformer in the deck. Curving it into a 2 mana vehicle felt incredibly strong! And the draining effect is not irrelevant. In a deck that played 6 rares, 4 of them being bombs with an A grade in your set review, this little one mana saga was the real MVP.
I had the same, and it was nuts in my deck. I struggled with bombs, I only had one bomb, but it was really spicy with Tribute to Horobi because I could offset the damage from rats with lifegain while draining the opponent. Worked especially well when in its creature form with Mukotai Soulripper as it could crew it and give it menace without having to sac anything
Everybody is sleeping on Suit up....one of the best combat tricks in a very long time, it replaces itself, and at worst is good enough to active vehicles if you have one and draw a card. Anything with counters on it + the 4/5 base body makes it always a favourable trade. Really really good.
@@NizzahonMagic idk, between sagas giving usually small bodies as a reward (who usually enjoys a card like that) , multiple creatures with counters on them which get larger thanks to change the base body, and the option to put a vehicle running (specially good on defense when opponent thinks you can't crew), AND always cycling itself, I just see it as a win card. I'm also never high on this kind of cards but in this context the good base power it has really been a small hidden gem to me on drafts. Also, I know it's because it's still early, but no one plays around good combat tricks on blue lol
rabbit battery is also an extremely good uncommon, being able to give any creature haste for just R is really, really versatile. Good late, good early, modifies. it's got it all.
There is a savage combo with moonsnare specialist and circuit hacker. Say you have 2 circuit hackers on board and one specialist in hand, and your opponent only has 1 creature to block. You attack and one of your hackers goes unblocked so you ninjitsu your specialist, bounce their creature and ninjitsu your hacker returning your specialist to your hand so you draw a card instead of looting. What happens is that your opponent will be in a lock cuz he has to play the creature again but you just repeat what you did last turn so you keep bouncing their creature, dealing damage and drawing cards until your opponent finds a solution. I did this to an opponent and it was pretty amazing and pretty brutal.
I did one draft of the set on MTGA already and somehow landed in a mono green enchantment deck that had 3(!!) Roaring Earth, that card is absolutely bonkers, especially if you have the 4/3 kami that can bounce enchantments cause you can just bounce it in the late game and turn it into a huge guy.
Definitely agree with the picks. I'd love if your set reviews went through the cards in the order commons - uncommons - rares (multi-coloured group by colour pairs). And for this kind of video make a side mention of removal for each colour then the top 3 non-removal in the colour. I think that would be ideal for the viewers! Great work as always, love your content.
Hey, you are probably about right, but I would prefer a list where you exclude the removals. Of course they are the best, but whats really intresting are the other best cards :). But great video as always :)
I know white removal will always take the cake but I'm surprised michiko konda's saga didn't get a mention. I've had so many landslide victories by dropping this on t3-4. Not only does it provide two essentially unblockable/bad value attacks for your opponent, but then you get a massive beater
I did a draft yesterday on arena, first deck I faced was at least 4 colors but he had removal of every colors and played them until his win-con was the 7/7 mech and he had spell pierce. I faced a mono-blue who played three of them. I actually faced 3 mono-decks before being kicked with 3 losses...
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions. This is the first prerelease I will attend since war of the spark. And since my stroke so I appreciate you doing the work for me
I think Michiko's Reign of Truth is the best uncommon White card in the set. Sets up Aggro decks really quickly and the back side can turn into a problem bomb card. Tons of creatures in white are enchantment creatures and it's not hard to find tons of synergy to get growing fast.
As a limited player just coming back after 6 years this is a great video. I don’t care for the most rare cards. I needs this knowledge for drafts and prerelease. 👍
I think you overvalued roaring earth a little. It doesn't create creature tokens, it only puts a +1/+1 counter on creatures you have. That's still amazing and probably still the best green uncommon, it's not quite as bonkers as what you described.
I played a premier draft in which black green was SO open. I got 4(!!) Gloom shriekers and a bunch of premium removal. And someone even passed the mythic green saga bomb to me so yeahhh. That was an easy 7 wins
i had a great setup with two sunblade samurais and norika yamazaki, the poet. theyre great attackers, letting you trigger norika's ability and remaining available as a tough blocker, and then if one dies you can use the other to bring it back and just attack every turn with two 4/4s backing you up
Thanks for the dedication Nizza, your reviews are awesome! Just wondering: what would you think about raising the number of cards evaluated in future set reviews for this "Best Commons & Uncommons" videos? I feel just 1 for the Uncommons may be specially low. Would 5 Commons and 3 Uncommons make it too long? (or even a variable number, like "everything B- and above"). I just love hearing your data driven analysis; the more you say the better prepared I think I am
I would rate Greater Tanuki as one of the best green commons (not as good as the removal but possibly better than the two others you listed). It's both a ramp enabler and a ramp payoff. Ramp decks struggle in limited because it always seems you get either your expensive cards or your ramp but not both. Greater Tanuki solves that problem and is thus much better in multiples than most expensive cards. Also, it enables splashing (or fixing if needed).
I did a prerelease, went 1-2 with a a janky vehical deck with a non Gita is and 2 rare vehicles plus other artifact stuff and vehicles. It was a bru deck
Wow, no Mirrorshell crab, huh? I feel like having mana leak that can hit chapter 3 of sagas and channel abilities is super relevant in a format like this, and the big artifact body with ward is also really nice to close out games.
In regards to countering saga chapter 3, your opponent will almost always have 3 mana when chapter 3 goes off. Only in rare instances will he or she decline to pay 3. And spending 3 mana and a card to make your opponent pay 3 mana is a bad deal.
I did a premium draft in MTGA last night, went 6-1 with a G/B/W janky build. I played with 2 giant energy blades and that crazy 8/8 trample artefact creature. I don't know why, but it worked. Seems to be a Slower limited format which I dig.
Interesting because I've seen a lot of cases where it's either super quick with aggro strategies or incredibly grindy. Mid range seems to be the lowest tier here
@@justincarroll1836 so far I've not encountered any really aggro decisions. Even managing to win a game where a player practically milled themselves so low all I had to do was stall to get the W. I generally play best of 1's so I'm not sure if that's a different beast entirely.
Wow, I can't believe Behold the Unspeakable is not mentioned here. It's the best com/uncom of the set by a landslide. It's superior to almost all rares and mythics as well.
Yeah, I gave it a B in my set review, so it ending up as the best uncommon wouldn't be too shocking. I am still not sure I put it over the Green Enchantment, but its obviously really good.
black seems really bad in this set - so many of the commons feel actively bad that i dont see myself wanting to play it beyond a small splash. I'd even go as far as to demote Assassin's Ink and Twisted embrace from being premium removal because BB is such a cost it feels like
Interesting, RW has been absolutely terrible for my opponents, it seems like G has a pretty good Matchup. The Aura 4 drop 4/5 with vigilance really brickwalls most of em
Went 0-3 at a pre-release with RW today, with the two mythic dragons. Without fixing just ended up one land short too often 😟 when it went off, it went off. When it didn't, there's not a lot of ways to find more cards
tbh the green uncommon you named I think is underperforming. I've dealt with it fine in a few match ups so far. It's not really terrible but if you get your creatures removed then it's very do-nothing.
@Nizzahon Magic the red-green enchantment though, I think it's called rejuvenating hotsprings. That card feels absolutely busted. It's a bomb for sure. I know you were just doing mono colored cards though. love the vids, keep up the good work.
My experience has also been that it underperforms. I think it might feel like a B if everything goes right. But if it doesn’t come out on time or if removal and opposing creatures line up, which can happen quite easily, it feels weak. The thing is, you invest a card and significant tempo into getting it out early. If a creature gets removed with some counters on it(or with the trigger on the stack), you didn’t exactly get two for oned,. But you lost more than 1 card. You will only ever get 5-7 counters at best, so if you lose 2 of them in a removal spell it’s almost like you lost an extra half of a card. In short, this is not a two mana dormant grove.
Can't speak for sealed but for just regular draft this is probably my favourite set so far. I've done pretty well so far going infinite on arena but i can see why this set actually wouldn't be a good sealed set compared to some of the previous ones.
As you clearly explained - circuit mender will always be (at least) a two for one, no matter what happens. And this on a 2/3 playable in all decks it's really strong.
I totally missed how good Circuit Mender is. Until my opponent kept blinking it. I'll be more mindful of it moving forward!
I’m going to my first ever prerelease event tomorrow, and your videos are really helping me out. Thanks!
Wish you all the best, Neon Dynasty looks super fun !
Good luck and enjoy!

Good luck, just played one yesterday and it’s a great format!
Have fun man! Enjoy the new set!!

Nice
Even if it is a good trick, it certainly isn't one of the best Blue Commons.
It's a good trick. But a good trick is like just below "I want to play this territory".

Yeah, and +1/+1 to boot - which often lets you at least get trades with your smaller creatures when attacking.
Yep, it is really good -- I gave it a B in my review. But I could only pick one Uncommon here haha.
