    So what I'm getting 1/3 of the way through the video- Green is once again the allstar (I guess being the creature-focused color in a creature-centric game is a good thing 🤷🏻‍♂️ and of course, since it has no-sweat fixing, it essentially has access to the entire color pie lol)

      I'm late on this but magic is not a creature centric game, I play constructed and commander and I rarely play creatures unless I play limited. If I wanted to fight creatures I'd play Pokémon. That's why the early days were great. Powerful artifacts a spells and bad creatures.

    I found that sticking with green as one's main color makes splashing anything very trivial, more so than usual anyway.

    According to the latest 17lands data, UB is now the winningest color pair, all while also being the most played. Somewhat tricky to read this... I believe that it being the winningest could be a side-effect of green being overdrafted, and then it's still the most played because it probably splashes less than green decks (not much worth splashing beyond Oath, Kiki, Kappa and Naomi?). Either way...UB is very deep. It's far from being the Ninjutsu deck only. It can be artifact-themed, it can do the Terrible Secrets thing well between sagas and good artifact creatures, it can be controlling instead of aggressive, and whatnot. In my own stats, UB is also the pair I've been winning and trophying with the most, and in fact none of the trophies was the textbook ninjas deck. May be different for others but I always find it hard to draft the hard ninjas deck because I'm taking sagas and other flexible cards before narrow things like 1/1 fliers or things that need 1/1 fliers to work while I don't have any yet. Other than that, I am still tabling Suit Up a lot, and in UB it always delivers.

    I agree with everything! Great points and helps me realize I’m not crazy when I’m high on some cards and low on others. Surprises came with Kami of terrible secrets being so high for you.
    Also ppl need to keep in mind Finding open lane > forcing Color pairs that aren’t open ✌️

    Maybe it's just me, but I've had a ton of success with Blue White. I think the main issue people are having is that they think the archetype is vehicles, which on the surface seemed that way. But the vehicles kinda sucked.
    The success I've had with Blue white has always been a control deck with channel cards like the samurai that draws a plain or the crab that's a counter, etc. And some sort of recursion. Brilliant Restoration is a card I've drafted a lot for this archetype and it does really broken things with the color pair. Tameshi as well.

    Been watching a lot of Nummy and green as your baseline, especially Abzan if WB is available, seems like the go-to. Can easily pivot into 5C if Kami War appears with all the fixing.

    Splashing Hot Springs in GW just busts the deck wide open, and it's something I've done a few times to get to 7 wins. Jukai lowers the cost, it gives you speed that the deck is desperately missing, and just leads to so many blowouts I'm surprised the card exists in the uncommon slot TBH.

    Great video, keep up the good work ! When I first started watching and playing Neon Dynasty drafts, I was convinced that Gruul would be a pretty grear aggressive deck and that Golgari, Simic and Boros would suck (Golgari and Simic seemed to lack any obvious synergies and the attacking-alone-theme seemed dumb). It's interesting that it didn't turn out like that at all - although the hardest stomps I was on the receiving end of were against aggressive Boros decks. There is something about being on the draw against those decks that just feels really bad.

  • @TecDax
    @TecDax 2 роки тому +2

    Oddly enough R/G was one of thus far only three draft decks that got me to seven wins. It was insanely aggressive, 70% of my spells were 2 mana or less, the only thing higher than three were 2 Ironhoof Boars.

    Great video. Been looking forward to this one. For me the worst archetype is RG Modified since it's very aggro on a set where that doesn't really pays off, it can't make a comeback at all, and the only chance you would have of winning a game is on a match in which you were already ahead of your opponent.
    I should know. I've already drafted it three times because of thundering raiju on my pack one/ pick one.

    Yeah. I think your power rankings are pretty spot on. I would put Green black at the top and green white second but green is clearly the best color in this format. One thing you didn't mention is I would put suit up and brute suit as key commons in the vehicles deck.

  • @bluemage1
    @bluemage1 2 роки тому

    I propably had one of the most broken decks in the format with blue/white:
    It was in the midweek magic phantom draft:
    The deck was set up to consistently attack with thundersteel collosus on turn 4, by searching it with anchor to reality which i played 2 copies of. In addition i opened a wandering emperor. I went 3-0 winning every time around turn 5. Two times with thundersteel collosus one time with the opponent scooping to a wandering emperor.

    I know you don't mention removal much, but blue/white also has some of the worst removal as well, especially with no cheap bounce effects other than the turtle. Removal is weaker in the format, but it still is needed for some interaction. My best decks have been Red/Green surprisingly, but I also try to run as many enchantments and reconfigure guys as I can. Worst Blue/White with my worst record being 0 wins 6 losses (I play best of 3).

    My blue white deck actually ended up being pretty fantastic! I went 3-0 with it, only losing one round. Of course, it's probably due to having Tameshi and three Spirited Companions, but I did have five vehicles in the deck which helped get damage through and block pretty well. Though, without the best few cards in the deck, it would probably end up being be a lot worse.

    Agree on WU vehicles being the weakest. The only good build I've had thus far was more mono-U ninja's splashing W for harder removal and could see enchantment-focus builds also working out in the colours but yeah the vehicle thing didn't end up working out for the most part

    I've had the most success with UB, so I'd certainly rank it second under GW in this format. You only mentioned Ninjas and didn't talk about all of the artifact value the deck has, since blue has the best payoffs while black has some of the better artifact creatures.

      UB is strong, but the stats disagree with you. B/G has the highest WR currently. Good stuff/enchantments/playable sagas turns out to be quite strong.

    I'm surprised red green was that low.
    Though I do agree that white red are not as good. A big reason I drafted the pair twice was because, I happened to have decent removal and creatures in those colors and managed to get 2 copies of Raiyuu storm's edge.

    Once I hit mythic league it changed a lot. Red became a lot better - it was passed a lot more and I started having success with WR samurai of all things. When you're at a table of chumps GW or WB or BG is easy, when you're at a table of pros you have to get by on scraps.

    Samurais got me first place. People think it’s supposed to be aggro, I found better as kill control. Kami’s flare was my favorite common.

  • @GFortz
    @GFortz 2 роки тому

    I think the reason why you've ranked WR so low is that you've kind of misunderstood the concept.
    The pattern that you've described (attack with a single unstoppable Samurai for a few turns, then alpha strike) is better suited for midrange. The color pair has quite a few cards to facilitate that, and the most important one (in my experience) is Tempered in Solitude that allows a lot of easy wins through sheer card advantage alone.
    The problem with playing it as aggro is that the curve is just a little bit higher than that, what with some of the best cards (the Subduer and the Peerless Samurai) costed 3 and the signpost sitting at 5, tied with the (quite grindy) BW and only cheaper than the Skyturtle (which has options to be useful before that). Indeed, lots of cards (aforementioned Tempered and Peerless, but also Akki Ronin and the Yamazaki duo) promote a very grindy pattern of "skip 1st main, attack with 1, play out the extra value you've got from the attack".
    I think that the deck is much better when played that way and would rank it well into T2, on par BW.
    That said, I'm happy with your ranking. With my favourite color pair being ranked so low, it's going to be even more common to see that lane wide open. Thanks for that!

    Show me a good red/white deck and I'll show you a bad deck. It really feels like other color-combinations have so much more value available and the crux of the archetype is so bad and prone to losing tempo by removal. Blue/white is good, not vehicles but controlling blue/white can be good. I like combining B/G or W/G with blue for my three color decks.
