So I just discovered a shortcut method to figuring out the pillar height. As you're lowering it you see the blue rotational arrow. There's a point where that arrow disappears when you lower it. You just bring it to the point just before the rotation arrow disappears and thats another way to determine the correct pillar height.
@@Onrain20 I don't blame you! It's super cool to see people improving on the method. I was so set on using an item, I'd not even noticed the icon moving! GGs folks!
Awesome work btw, in all my snap testing to get foundations as low as possible I never considered doing the simplest thing of simply free placing the pillar and lowering it.
I've been trying for a while now to crack this problem, but the way foundations are, it isn't looking possible as they seem to require support. If I manage to work it out, I'll definitely be sharing!
Thanks! Glad to have helped! It's a bit annoying how it all works, but at least once it's done, it's done. I don't plan on building a whole fleet of rafts anytime soon! 😂
Thanks! I find that to be solid life advice in general. Struggling at work? Relationship problems? Only got your card at a cash only store? Just run away. Then come back! 😜
Not sure if mentioned here, but I can get the foundation tiny bit below motorboat floor. I center a pillar put a roof on it then a wall down that, then off that I place a foundation. I then put a pillar center of that foundation. Remove all but the new pillar and add roof, wall down it and foundation off that. Rinse repeat and you will see what I mean. It only like 3 or 4 times of this but I just did it to make sure still works and it does.
I appreciate the compactness but why wouldn’t you take advantage of going vertical on the raft by making floors? I can’t remember the structure limit on rafts but I recall being able to do so last I tried.
Cheers! This is just to get the foundations in place, ready for people to build on, as it's not possible to lower the foundations enough to drive the raft through them when stood on top with the games actual mechanics. I've got an actual raft base build coming tomorrow to show a few cool things this method allows. Might be more what you're after. 😎
Usually that means the pillar is a little too low down. Try it a touch higher. I’ve made an update on this method too that might be helpful. It’s linked in the description. Let me know if that helps 🙌🏻
not sure if you got lucky or just practiced that much, but I had a helluva time getting the height of the pillar right. I focused the most on seeing the pillar at exactly the same angle you showed in the vid, and there's a very small window for accuracy to get it correct. Worked exactly as you described however, and thanks so much for the vid!
Glad you got there in the end! There's very little room for error, which is why I introduced the sign idea. If you're on or under that line, it won't place. Need to be over it, almost slightly above. Also, using the arrow keys on the keyboard moves the camera in set measures, so that can make it easier to do to. Hope this helps!
It makes the raft drivable when covered in foundations. You can't get foundations low enough to select the raft, or motorboat, through them using methods from the old game, or the new building system. The raft is also protected by the foundations from the side and bottom, so if you build a base over the top the raft can't get damaged until the structures you add are broken, by anything except a leedsichthys. Found a few other perks, but I'm showing them off in my next video 🤐
I use the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard. Stops me spinning around and messing up. Make sure you’ve clicked ‘fire’ once to lock position, so you can make the adjustments. Let me know how it goes 💪🏻
@@toastbloke Brilliant thank you very much!! Takes a sec to get the height just right but works perfectly (ps this was done on smalls incase ppl were worried pvp and offline might be a bit different)
@Srondor I find it’s better to be slightly above the join on the wood sign than below it. Once you know what to look for, it’s super fast to do. Glad to hear it’s being put into action! Cheers for the confirmation 💪🏻
No problem! Glad it helped. Did the sign in the pillar work for you, or did you read the pinned comment? It seems to be patched. Just finalising the changes for a video as we speak!
@@toastbloke Thanks, yeah I discovered this too when I tried it out, so just went with the pillar, sadly floor wasn't low enough to drive. Look forward to the update, keep making vids man, refreshing style and delivery. Subbed.
Im having an issue with having a foundation where the rutter is. Im not able to access the boat and use it. When removing that particular foundation i can. Any help?
It sounds like the foundations still aren’t low enough. There’s very little room for error with the height. I’ve got an updated method, that might help though. Check out the link in the description 🙌🏻
Not if it's fully covered/protected by the foundations. With pick up put down being on official now, you can always remove one if you need to and replace it when you're done. On the old game I used to build a protected entrance, but I've not had to chance to experiment with that yet! I'll let you know if I find anything soon.

I mean for people with OCD this is perfect. There's no slight raise or bs like that. For ASA you're the raft king, PS Worked for me, thanks so much! :)@@toastbloke The setup part does need wood items, doesn't work with Tatch ceiling/foundation etc from when I tried it.
It's suspected that I have OCD, which is probably why I'll spend time doing things like this rather than just cracking on 😅 And cheers, I'm chuffed it's worked for you. When I tested, the sign and pillar needs to be wood for the right height reference, but once the pillar is in place, I could do the rest with any ceiling, quarter wall and foundation combination. I'll have to double check!
Doesn t work for me on Offi. I play PC, could also not place the pillar into the sign. Did it then by estimation. Looks all good, but I cannot access and drive the raft 😞 !
Do you have the full alignment setting on when placing the pillar? If that doesn't work, it's been discovered that the rotation symbol being just above the raft is there perfect height too! Give that a go next time! Hope you manage to get there in the end!
Nothing, they patched that on official settings. Check out the video linked in description and/or pinned comment for the updated method! We found a workaround that's easier!
looks a bit hard to make, but I love the idea of driving it directly. one question remains: is there any open spot where you can hit with area or point damage?
Cheers! It's not the easiest method, but the only way to do this so far. Now I've done it a few times, takes me 10 seconds to sink the foundation perfect every time. The foundations protect the sides an underside of the raft, but the top surface can be damaged. Build a room over the top and it's as strong as what you build it out of, plus the raft health itself once that's been destroyed. Still have to watch out for Leedsichthys though. They still hit the raft through the foundations.
I'm pretty sure the Leedsichthys can get direct hits on the raft, no matter what you build on it. Saying that, the new path finding seems to make them struggle to get hits when moving away from them, due to the structures. Not unsinkable, but feels like chances are better in Ascended. Now we have sticky turrets you can just stick them underneath now to take care of them too!
Thanks so much for this! I was thrilled to discover you could lower foundation height in SA, but disappointed that I still had to leave a hole for the rudder. Now I don't have to!
Yeah, I was exactly the same, which is why this was one of the first things I tackled! They patched the collision of rafts on official though, sadly, so if you ever need a version that works there, check out the video I've pinned and linked in the description!
It looks like it, yes! Going to work on an updated version today, but there’s info in the pin post that should help for now. Let me know how it goes 🤞🏻
Ps5 My foundation keeps attaching to the ceiling on the pillar it won't drop down to the quarter wall don't know what to do about it but Build around the drive stick 😢
I've got an updated version linked in the description and pinned comment that might help as there have been changes since patches, which might help, but it sounds like you are placing the pillar ever so slightly too low. It's got to be at a very precise height to work, so maybe try a little higher with your pillar placement. Hope this helps!
I’ve never been a fan of accessing underneath. Leaves your raft vulnerable. Now you can pick things up on official it’s easy to pop the middle foundation in and out as needed, so your raft is strong regardless how you place your foundations. 🫡
It sounds like you're not quite getting the pillar quite in the right place. I had that happen when working the method out if I was a little too high with the pillar placement. Make sure it's right on, or just above that like on the sign. Let me know if you get it. Another problem could be if you're too close to shore.
Cheers! There's great creator's both big and small! It is always nice though when UA-cam throws an absolute gem of a small creator your way and you get be there as the journey unfolds!
It’s completely normal. The leeds hits rafts/motorboats through the structures. It helps to carry a box of repair structures and to be careful in deep water, but you can build a big cage around your raft to stop them getting close enough to damage your raft. Those methods just eat up your structure count! 🥲
The good news is, the pillar aligns with the raft regardless. If you move it around, you'll see it stays lined up, so that step isn't important anymore. Also, I've got an easier method linked in the description and pinned comment that will help. This only works if no clipping is disabled now! Good luck with the build!
@@toastbloke Yeah I restartingmy game and it aligned my camera after, something weird with the game running for so long or something, I also ended up making my raft with the other method anyways too, thank you!
I mean you could, but then the raft isn’t fully protected by foundations. More easily sunk. Plus, it limits placement options and moving around is annoying.
It doesn’t protect against a Leeds, but it does protect the bottom and sides of the raft from general damage. The top isn’t protected as the foundations are just below it, but build a base on top with walls and a ceiling and it is 🙌🏻
tried this today on official and it doesn't work. maybe it did when you made this vid. But as of now it doesn't lower the foundations. they snap at the height of the pillar.
I’ve checked and it still works. Snapping like that means the pillar is placed too low I believe. Try getting the central column of the pillar right over the join on the sign, or slightly above. There’s some tips in the pinned comment too. Hope you can figure it out! 🤞
Sides and underneath are protected by foundations, but the top is not, but that’s fixed with walls and a ceiling. The only thing that can bypass that is the Leedsichthys.
@@toastbloke i don't think my usual way of building my boats will be aesthetically pleasing. But i wonder how a wall, quarter wall, and then a wall would fit with build limit, as well as 2 quarterwalls clip a wall to the first quarter wall and then 1 more quarterwall above it would be like.
@@wolfbanefist111 The new system changes everything! I’ve had to come up with a whole new layout myself. Structure limits are killer, but I found some clever tricks I think people will like! 🙌🏻

Yeah, I feel you! I tried to find a way to overhang foundations and they seem to have put an end to that with the new foundation placement. Might have to revisit the problem, but it's sad to be limited to ceilings etc. as it kills the structure count!
I’ve seen you already checked out my new method! Glad it helped. This worked fine until a patch. I think it still does on no clipping servers, but I just use the other version regardless now. Less steps is always a win!
Step 1 doesn't seem to work any more. It seems like the direction you were facing before mounting the raft is the same direction you will be facing after you dismount the raft
Check out the description or pinned post! I made an updated version that works following the collision patch. This still works on some servers, but the new version is easier and will work on them all! Cheers!
As in make the pillar go up and down? I’ve got an updated method linked in the description to get past a patch that might help out. Would be the old method being pushed. 😅 Let me know how it goes!
@@toastbloke yes on ASA. And I think I now understand the issue after getting in game and messing around. If you cover the control arm of the raft with a foundation you can't use it unless you do it the way you show in the vid. I never realized I by default build my rafts with 8 foundations instead of 9.
Why can't they just make the damn rafts easily buildable? Everyone has been doing this since early in ASE so why didn't they just make raft bases for ASA? Noooo, we gotta jump through these stupid hoops still!
I feel the exact same way! First thing I did when I saw you could adjust foundation heights, was jump on a raft and try. Couldn't believe they hadn't sorted it! Even if they just snapped in place? What's worse is, I did this and they patched it on official, so I've got a new method in the description!
If it was straight forward, it wouldn't be ARK. Pretty simple as far as building tricks go though! Not even sure why this keeps getting shared, I have an updated version in the pinned comment and description that's a little simpler.

With this lower, does it protect the raft from underneath?
Sides and underneath are protected by foundations, but the top is not, but that’s fixed with walls and a ceiling. The only thing that can bypass that is the Leedsichthys.
cheers bonnie lad
Nee bother jackie! Appreciate the comment 💪
Toast said he would figure it out!
I did, so I had to! Man of my word! 🫡
Forgot a refridgerator/smithy lol. But it looks great.
Haha! How did I miss that?! 😂
Don't worry, my video going live tomorrow has all that covered for you! 😎
@@toastbloke in the old way i built 2 walls on high and 1 side with ceilings to place beds and smithies and under it was fridge, incubator, cryofridge, grill, storage boxes And generator. It was a tight fit but i can't really build anything till console.
well you are showing the pillar being "dropped" that doesn't happen so my raft is not driveable.
Saw this is reverse order! Glad you sorted it. Times zones make it hard to reply/help on time sometimes 😂
OK, you didn't say what you did to get the pillar to lower a bit. I will pop over to the UPDATED METHOD link.
I LOVE YOU THANK YOU
Cheers, kindly! Be sure to check out the updated version in the description! Easier and worked on no clipping servers!
OMG here within the first 10 seconds - Probably 30 now I've commented
Hello Sonic, how is Tails doing? 😛
Seems like wildcard bumblefucked ship building in ascended, had a huge battleship in survival evolved now I can’t even build anything more than three foundations wide
Yeah, I feel you! I tried to find a way to overhang foundations and they seem to have put an end to that with the new foundation placement. Might have to revisit the problem, but it's sad to be limited to ceilings etc. as it kills the structure count!
Good idea, but mine dont hatch on the left side
I made an updated version that’s pinned in the comments and description. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/yDXinYVWiSY/v-deo.html
@@toastbloke thank you man!
My pillar won't snap to the sign when I try this method.
Check out the link in the description or the pinned comment. Had to make an updated version for official settings after a patch!
Appreciate ya Toast!@@toastbloke
Never a problem! Hope it helped!@@ChrisOnRockyTop
@@toastbloke It did got it to work. Thanks!
Did they change this? It didn’t work but I remember it working months ago
I've got an updated version pinned in comments and in the description. They fixed clipping for no-clip servers, so this method wont always work now!
It's a bit to hairpin trigger for me to bother with figuring out the exact mm placement by eye
I’ve seen you already checked out my new method! Glad it helped. This worked fine until a patch. I think it still does on no clipping servers, but I just use the other version regardless now. Less steps is always a win!
Best ❤
Cheers! Hopefully I'll have the updated method out tomorrow!
You have to be Patience, but it works, i only Skip the signal because on oficial, the pilar can not BE put.
Cheers!
How the hell do you lower the snap point??
As in make the pillar go up and down? I’ve got an updated method linked in the description to get past a patch that might help out. Would be the old method being pushed. 😅 Let me know how it goes!
I like your jamaican accent
Beer Can
I don't understand this... I never have an issue building on a raft and then being able to drive it.
On the new version of the game? Do you cover the whole raft in foundations if so?
@@toastbloke yes on ASA. And I think I now understand the issue after getting in game and messing around. If you cover the control arm of the raft with a foundation you can't use it unless you do it the way you show in the vid. I never realized I by default build my rafts with 8 foundations instead of 9.
Didn’t work for me on Xbox. I use to know an easy method years ago.
Check out the updated method linked in the top comment and description! 😎
This doesn’t work on official
U can’t snap inside of structures
It does. Have you tried it? Are you on Xbox?
So much work 😅
If it was straight forward, it wouldn't be ARK. Pretty simple as far as building tricks go though! Not even sure why this keeps getting shared, I have an updated version in the pinned comment and description that's a little simpler.
DOES NOT WORK!!!! I’VE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO REPLICATE AND I COULD NOT ACCESS MY RAFT AT ALL!!!!
Have you read the pinned comment or description before spamming caps there? 😜
This video is not current
I’m guessing you haven’t read the description or pinned comment? Check them out for the new method!
doent work on console
I’ve got an updated version linked in description and pinned comment. This original version got patched everywhere. Check it out! 🙌🏻
@@toastbloke THANKS WORKED IT OUT ALREADY
It’s doesn’t work foundations don’t snap
It does, but there’s very little room for error. There’s some extra info in the pinned comment that might help you. Let me know how it goes 🙌🏻
Didnt work, this guy a scammer he asked if i wanted a raft and took all my materials
A scammer you say? Would a scammer have an updated method linked in the description and pinned comment? I think not! Looks like you’ve scammed yourself here 😅
very good work
Thanks! I love rafting, so had to work this out for the new game. Hopefully, people find it useful!
@@toastbloke I love LAMP, I spent the last day trying to figure out what you had been doing since your post, didn't even think to use a sign lol also for anyone firing a cooking pot on raft don't forget the water reservoir as its wireless now too :)
Jfc just build the damn base
Jfc just watch a damn fortnite tiktok
@ that’s your life not mine.
