    There were idiots pushing XBSS, the 1080Pers on a 24 inch screen at 144 hz wanted a cheap gaming PC. Microsoft obliged listening to the wrong crowd, and now they have a mess. Hard to push next gen when you must design your games around last gen memory constraints. 4K doesn't take up as much memory as people think, I think it's just under 1 GB. 4K textures is a different story, but just a small part of it. If you design your game around 9 GBs of word and animation, sound, and object data, this is before graphical options are applied. It could not run XBSS, you would have to subdivide levels, optimize the hell out of streaming, and or have mid level loading. Because of this, I'm guessing games from MS themselves will be designed around 5-6GBs max. Third party developers who design their games around 7-10 GBs before graphics are applied will struggle getting the games to run on XBSS. I said it when it was announced, saying it again, XBSS will hold back XBSX and it has.

    I feel like I have a much better understanding of PBR materials, thank you! I also enjoyed the answer to the shader/traversal stutter question, it’s fascinating the way that consoles effect PC and how their dedicated decompression block + fast NVMe (on PS5, which is the market leader) can lead to such problems for gamers on PC when coupled with the shift over to DX12. I love the idea about using AI to play through a game once for each hardware configuration in order to develop a shader cache.

    Completely agree and thought the exact same thing regarding merketing deal clauses stipulating no mention of competing platforms prior to launch also applying to AMD vs Nvidia. Its common in game announcments/ reveals at platform events & game marketing deals, likely the case here 👊🏼❤️. As for the Series S, definitely a low barrier to entry to attract gamepass subs, without much consideration for its impact on game development - because, lets face it, gamepass lessens that as a priority. I agree that blocking the implementation of DLSS is a bad move that benefits no one (least of all AMD with all the negative press around it). With that said, I just don't feel that upset when I see a game opt for only FSR support. Certainly DLSS looks a bit better, but the lack of it isn't something that really impacts my experience of a game in the same way that other technical shortcomings like traversal or shader stutters, or botched mouse input would. FSR is firmly in the realm of "good enough", and I'd much rather be stuck with it than have only dlss that doesn't run on the devices that need it most like steam deck, or older pascal era GPUs. Hopefully radeon can stop putting it's foot in its mouth for once, and the news cycle can move on to something more interesting.

    I personally think PBR materials is what made the biggest difference in the look of 8th generation games vs 7th generation games. It really changed how those games look and brought a far more realistic look to them. Not sure how PBR would have changed the look of 7th gen games if the technology had come around in 2006 in gaming vs 2012-2013.
    Once again I am glad people are refusing to buy nvidia's bad GPUs. This is how I like seeing the market as Nvidia can't just put out one of the worst GPU generations in a long time and expect people to just gobble them up. AMD too isn't helping. This was their chance to come in and kick Nvidia like the did with Intel when they released Ryzen. Instead AMD just sat around and became Nvidia light and didn't take the opportunity to take advantage of all the bad press Nvidia has gotten. This has to be one of the few times I am actually really excited for what Intel can do. Not only do they have pretty close RT perrformance but they even have a pretty good upscaler. XeSS is actually pretty close to DLSS in quality despite some of it's issues.
    I only wish the whole 40 series was as good as the 4090 was in a performance jump. I love the efficiency jump Nvidia made as the 40 series in especially laptops has made some pretty major leaps in efficiency that should be congradulated. However pricing is garbage and VRAM is lacking. There's no reason why a 3060 should be able to out perform the 4060. When the VRAM limit isn't hit the 4060 is slightly ahead but as soon as that VRAM limit is hit it drops to similar if not worse performance than the 3060.
    I have complained when games release with no FSR but DLSS. I want all releases to have FSR, DLSS, and XeSS for upscaling tech. It's useful to have and will be nice for anyone looking to have better performance without sacrificing much image quality.
    I do like these longer videos as it's nice to get more information on all the topics you want to cover.

    Developers don't pay Nvidia to add DLSS to their games and they don't need to give Nvidia access to their code. The SDK is free and available to anyone, hence modders and emulator developers integrating it themselves.
    The only difference being closed source makes is that the implementation ships as a precompiled DLL instead of source code. Considering machine learning algorithms are, by nature, black boxes there wouldn't be any use in letting developers tweak it anyway.

    • @NXGamer
      @NXGamer  Рік тому +2

      If you are shipping a commercial product, you do. The modding community do a great job, but they are not one in the same.
      E. G. Swapping a DLL (which is just a hook into the code already present to use new functions, as per the original design) is not even modding in reality. It requires no code review, compilation, etc. This is true and possible since forever, including wrappers such as we had in the late 90s when 3D accelerators landed.
      The other mod, adding in DLSS where non exists is more involved, required hooks into the games TAA system, buffers, motion vectors etc. And this is more work, but the people doing this are also programmers, likely have access to the SDK and more importantly, Nvidia Does not stop them as it helps them and the brand, infact quite the opposite is true.
      But none of this is open source, Nvidia is not open source on any of its features, game works, Drivers, DLSS are all black box solutions. And the reality is working with Nvidia is more expensive, timely than rolling your own or using FSR which Is open source. I am sure for most medium to bug teams implementing either is not a huge deal, I said that in this video. But development is always more than just the technical aspects of it, the logistics, optics, commercials and more all come into it. See above.
      Thanks

    • @faustianblur1798
      @faustianblur1798 Рік тому

      @@NXGamer Nvidia requires an agreement for shipping a commercial product with DLSS/GameWorks, notably to ensure the EULA is at least as restrictive as Nvidia's. Charging developers or demanding sensitive information would be counterproductive given their proliferation is intended to sell Nvidia hardware.
      Open or Closed Source makes no difference unless the developer wants to change the implementation, it does not make them easier to integrate. Developers are already using closed source implementations of Vulkan/D3D graphics APIs from Nvidia and AMD, the DLSS SDK effectively extends those.

    • @NXGamer
      @NXGamer  Рік тому +1

      @@faustianblur1798 I am confused as you have just said what I said, which is Nvidia is more involved and expensive than AMD. The % delta may not be massive but it is present, and most of the contacts are based on relative return. So bigger studios will have a larger impact on that contract rate.
      Effectively the deals may mean that Nvidia charge nothing and even help with development. But they may have exclusive marketing rights, optimise engine for Nvidia hardware etc. The difference between them is dealing with AMD aids Starfield across 2/3rds of the market, whereas with Nvidia the 1/3rd could negatively impact the other 2.

    • @faustianblur1798
      @faustianblur1798 Рік тому

      @@NXGamer "If you are shipping a commercial product, you do." Implies that a commercial developer needs to pay Nvidia and provide the source for their game, which is the opposite of what my comment said. There's no reason for Nvidia to charge developers and no evidence that they do. Most developers will be used to dealing with middleware solutions, so any added cost of ensuring their licence is inline with Nvidia's requirements should be negligible.
      No one is suggesting developers should support DLSS or XeSS instead of FSR. Integrating any one of these solutions lays the ground work for the other two. What little cost there is to integrate DLSS after FSR is tiny and allows them to much better serve 1/3rd of the PC market (a number which will only grow faster as cross-gen development stops).
