Very much agreed with you in hogwarts and tga. Whole video is freaking on point. Honestly it’s been a great shame what happened to forspoken I personally think this year too. It got memed badly but got some good stuff in it worth some recognition.
As for physical media - absolutely agreed.

It’s basically Xbox as well…I’m signed in with my 360 account and never had another box and when you hit the button on pc it brings up your Xbox dash and you can see your Xbox friends/message etc.

@@samalton5837 what I’m saying yes I use steam, but also have game pass….when ur on in windows it shows that your logged into Xbox I’m using my account from the Xbox 360 days, and still adding achievements to it, if you have an official controller hit the home button on pc and the Xbox dash comes up…for friends…chat…etc. like even when I’m on Steam my Xbox fiends see what I’m playing.

I remember back in 2002 being blown away when I played Halo 1 at a KB Toys. I played it on a kiosk they had, played the first level and I really liked the graphics and fps handling on a controller but when the second level opened up and the Pelican dropped the Warthog my mind was blown away. When the marines jump in with you and shoot at enemies I couldn't believe what the AI was doing because the PS2 had nothing like that. I bought an Xbox and Halo a week later. I feel like all the real gamers working for MS xbox division have left and now just corporate people from MS are in charge and they have no idea what consoles, games or gamers want. All they see is revenue per quarter and just plug in a game to increase it.
I think "retro gaming" for a long time has had a divide between hardware enthusiasts and avid collectors with a lot of disposable income on the one hand and thrifty gamers and collectors, and people who just emulate and pirate all their software for free on the other hand. It might have gotten progressively worse up until the pandemic when insane pricing peaked, but some things have just always been rare, exclusive and prohibitively expensive. Just look at something like Neo Geo AES collecting, that was never cheap by any stretch of the imagination, or the TurboGrafx-16 which became almost equally insane by the late 2000's. Not to mention extremely rare and expensive consoles like the FM Towns Marty. And let's just mention arcade PCB and cabinet collecting, or Japanese retro computers like the Sharp X68000 which has had a niche but dedicated audience for over 30 years also in the West. I could go on about the state of high end PC gaming with $2000 graphics cards, but I'll rest my case.
I don't think willingness to pay a high premium as an enthusiast is inconsistent with being a "real and authentic" retro gamer per se. I remember my cheap childhood CRT that I played the SNES and PS1 on through an RF connection, but I would much rather use RGB on a PVM today (I snagged a couple of PVMs while they were still fairly affordable - best purchases of my life), or if I'm playing on a modern display, use a RetroTink 5x Pro (which while somewhat expensive was still tolerable, unlike the 4K which I think I'm going to have to pass on due to the exorbitant price with shipping and import fees). I really don't think the thrifty guy from my generation who plays on the crappiest CRT with composite has a more "authentic" setup and gets more enjoyment out of his hobby than me just because I use more quality hardware in my setup. Of course it would be better for all us with average incomes if everything we could ever want of retro gaming products were affordable, but alas. I also don't think having missed out on something in your childhood disqualifies you from going back and enjoying it with a bit of a novelty factor, or that it's phony to go back further back in time to discover gaming before your time. I myself never had a PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 (+CD addons) or a Saturn back in the day, for example, but grew to love those systems in the 10's when I was able to get a hold on them and play them extensively. I also happened to largely miss out on 80's micros gaming, even though other kids still were using them when I grew up in the 90's, but I find rediscovering them in retrospect exciting all the same.
I recall talking in high school about how the Amiga had multitasking and the Apple computers didn’t. Not sure if this is correct.

Around the time of the transition from XBox360 to XboxOne i'm sure i read that Microsoft had hoped to simply coast into the next gen on the back of the 360's success whilst leaning heavily on third party published games. ie. Minimal creative effort or risk.
I believe that is still their underlying modus operandi. Utilising your profts to avoid taxation by brute force purchasing successful developers is a financial move, not a creative one.
That’s not at all what they are doing this Gen, they purchased the developers and studios not just the games. That’s actually PlayStations MO this Gen.
A dev and studio owner said there is no charge for cert on PS5. The cost is in the dev kits. CDPR is just lazy.
I think the upgrades including gameplay content and a directors commentary is above and beyond what you get with most remasters. In terms of graphics/tech the upgrades are modest but lets be real here, many games had PS5 ports in the last 3 years and the changes were either as modest or the addons like raytracing were so tacked on that the games barely perform as well as on the previous platform. Even studios like Insomniac didn't allow you to upgrade the old Spider-Man game to the remastered version.

@@12coco100 That's not entirely true. The $10 upgrade also came with the Iki island dlc which had more story, new enemy types, unique side quests, new costumes and new mechanics for the horse. It was a substantial upgrade for $10. But I honestly think that tloup2 remastered is a substantial upgrade as well.
@@Blag_Cog Most of the people trying to justify it not being worth the $10 solely focus on the graphics not being that much different and completely ignore all the extra content that comes with it. I almost wonder if PlayStation called it a directors cut instead of a remaster if people would've complained less.

It absolutely blows me away that Microsoft has bought 35 of the best AAA game studios, and have yet to release a single first party, AAA exclusive, other than Starfield, which is absolute crap. I don’t know if it’s management or what, but they lack direction and I would really like to see some first party games from those big studios, I subscribed to Game Pass for three years before cancelling it this year because it’s got nothing new

I wouldn't call most of what they bought "the best" by a long shot. Good? Most of them yes. Competent? Yes. But among the best? Only a very few deserve that claim, like iD Software and, arguably, Obsidian & Ninja Theory (who are both more high AA). But ones like Compulsion, inXile, etc.? They're mid-tier at best until they can prove otherwise.

I agree about Hogwarts Legacy, it’s ridiculous to omit that game completely because of the views of JKR (which is presumably the reason for most of the controversy around that game). It shows how these type of award shows aren’t representative of the player base.

I just hope they've improved anisotropic filtering, distance LOD and environmental asset LOD (cans, tvs etc). Hell, if they had added RT ambient occlusion/ shadows/ lighting, that would have been amazing. I'm all for the extras and it's defo worth the money, but a simple resolution bump from 1440p to 2160 is disappointing
The updates are good but not great, as I discuss this is a not a full release, just a further update and the price reflects that, a recoup on sunk cost. My biggest issue though is I want to see new games as I think both Uncharted and TLOU have ran their course.
@@NXGamer couldn't agree more. During the ps3 generation they were crazy ambitious but were held back by the tech. Their top 3 studios are stagnant with the same IP and its getting tedious for me brother. I understand the hustle. But ffs I'd take bone over the same bulk meal from the freezer at this point. I'm itching for Death Stranding 2 and Dragons Dogma 2 💪👊🔥🔥🔥
@@NXGamer Yep, we need originality and creativity in this industry. I know it sounds like complaining without knowing how to do it. But I don't know how to do it.. That's why I have my utmost respect for those who make good games. And I know they can do it very well if they want. But it's cheaper, easier, more comfortable, safer to rehash old ideas, than to come up with something new that you have no idea if it'll be successful. It's understandable from business perspective, but it's hurting inventiveness immensely. 😕That being said, this update will be a nice Director's cut - everything in one place, it'll most probably have the same modes TLOU1 on PS5 had. Faster frame rates ), resolution, better LODs, new levels, etc.. I hope they WON'T ship with that unstable dynamic 2160/40fps mode TLOU1 has till this day, though!
The biggest bummer with FSR3 (to me) is that it doesn't support VRR. It's designed to run with Vsync and you must max out your monitor's refresh rate and have it at fixed refresh the whole time. This fps cap adds latency on top of interpolation's latency + Vsync judder when the frame rate dips or fluctuates. 🤔
It feels rather half baked as of right now. I have quite a bit of experience with frame generation on my 4090 and have looked into FSR 3 on my 7900XTX and a couple older GPU's. In Forspoken it just wasnt really working for me. It felt stuttery as if vsync was broken. Immortals of Aveum ran quite well, however no VRR support puts it at a disadvantage.
I think Nvidia's frame generation is leagues ahead. Forcing vsync from the Nvidia control pannel with an FPS cap actually works really well. FSR 3 has also been very slow to roll out in more games, the fact that Starfield got official DLSS 3 frame gen support over FSR 3 is a missed opportunity by AMD.
I've spent sometime with AMD Fluid Motion Frame, the beta driver FSR 3 feature which to AMD's credit they made available for RX 6000 too. Its not as good as FSR 3 obviously it will never be it has a long way to go before its usable imo. It ruins the image imo but is a promising feature to keep an eye on in the future.
One of the best features from AMD though is 120 fps recording ability with their preview drivers. That's one feature I do quite like that Nvidia dont have.
So yeah, from an image quality perspective FSR 3 is actually pretty good, they just need to ad VRR support and roll it out in more games. One thing AMD should prioritize the most though is FSR 2 super resolution. In some ways I wish theyd spent the resources on that instead of FSR 3 and improve the image quality, especially below 4K resolutions where its needed the most and where DLSS pulls well ahead mostly.

Starfield did make a difference, they sold consoles, subs and got great sales of the game itself.

Is PC really competition to consoles though? It seems to me we're talking about very different markets,and what I guess would be limited cross-over, and by cross-over I mean people who own a PC and would buy a console just in otder to play some exclusives. Given that I am inclined to believe releasing a game on one console and PC isn't a cannablistic business strategy. I suspect half the reason Sony delay PC versions of their big games is just to keep their fans relatively happy because we know how angry they get when other platforms get to play.
No, I really do think it's just a case of Microsoft putting out weak releases. Another Gears game? Halo 15? I mean these obvious sequels aren't getting anything like the hype and frankly the talent on display in developing these games is nothing compared to Sony's extremely impressive first-party houses.
Do you think frame interpolation will eventually become a standard on all platforms like advanced upscaling scaling?
Finally another person who isn't that impressed with Immortal's graphics. The art direction just seems bland and uninspired. Bland? People may shout, how can it be bland with bold colours and all? It looks like generic sci-fi and to be brutal the standards of artwork really do look AA or maybe even Indie levels. I'd argue Bioshock looks more impressive at times, despite its ancient tech- and that's because one can have the best engine in the world, but if you ain't got top-draw artists...
Spiderman did better than GOW on PC I think. I'm not sure if it's sold more total units than GOW on PC but I think it sold more copies when it launched.

Why are you running default in the adrenaline settings? Use performance or quality and see if it improves your games. You also need to overclock and undervolt the AMD card. Quality is what I run and all my games run great. I run a 6950 xt with a 5800x ryzen 7 and 64gbs of 3600 speed ram. I run everything in 1440p high. Cyberpunk on low Ray tracing and it runs around 120 frames per second. You have to run the AMD software removal tool before loading the new drivers. I have it on the task bar to make life easier.

MS lacked any sort of Identity starting from the xbox one forward.
Say what u will about buying up games. Xbox OG and xbox 360 had some fantastic exlusives u couldnt get on pc at the time of release. And all multiplat games were better performing on 360 than ps3.
They just fucked it all up after that.

TLOU2 ruined the franchise for me. I already purchased the first one on PS3 and PS4. I would have purchased the PS5 version if they didn't mess up the story in TLOU2.
As far as the Portal goes, I don't care for streaming. I would definitely rather a dedicated actual Portable system.
I really thought fsr3 felt way less responsive and looked a bit rough… I think this dlss3 and fsr3 stuff is pulling wool over peoples eyes
A point to add on the SM2 release. I was excited to give it a go at one point, but then they ( Sony, Insonmniac ) had to go and add all of that awful wokey propaganda EVERYWHERE in the game, which is frankly a major turn-off for me and seeing little bits of the storytelling being way-off the mark with cringy dialogue didn't help with their goal of parting money from my wallet.

Between GT returning to the top from a detour, Forza is now stuck in the place where GT5 / 6 was.... 2 gens ago!!! retooling assets!! XBX division is a mirror of that happening...

Here in Europe, they don't even sell Xbox games anymore. Its Playstation and Switch only. last time i saw a Xbox game in store, was back in 2019. After the pandemic its all gone.
Microsoft was doing so well during the X360 generation, but during the Xbox One generation they messed up big time, and they've never recovered from that.
Just face it, Xbox is a lost cause.
They make almost the same revenue as Sony with 1/4 the console sales and 1/4 the worldwide support.

I think it would sell ok. I've been playing the Jak 2 PC port at native 4K 120fps its quite entertaining. Would people who know nothing about it buy it though? I think so if Sony market it properly. Make it more of a AA release than a $70 AAA one.

couldn't agree more about the PSPortal reviews. People misunderstand the device as a console when really its supposed to be a controller with a screen on it, but everyone loves to jump on the hate bandwagon. If you dont want it, dont buy it. outrage culture at its finest.
See, that's my issue with it. From the (admittedly only 1) review I read about it, you cannot use it as a general controller for PS5.
If it was a potential replacement for my aging controllers, I could consider it - I would internalise a third of the cost is actually just a replacement controller. With benefits
I also don't understand why it doesn't have a mobile network connection (ie SIM card) as an option. If you could take it out and about, it would be an awesome device imo. If it can be used on a different WIFI network to your PS5 (ie friends house) maaaybe that's enough?

@@MrVelociraptor75 agreed with the part about it not being able to be used as a regular controller, but that will come with an update, along with direct cloud streaming PS5 games, Sony is just slow as always.
However, you're wrong. You can already take it out to your friends house and use it, or in the park with connected to your phone's mobile hotspot. As he said in the video, this is probably Sony testing the waters. Maybe in the future a version with a SIM, maybe a few node shrinks down the line, a version that can play games natively.
Yeah fuck the retrotink and its ridiculous pricing, Retrotink 5x was already way overpriced and unavailable in Europe, this is even worse than that.
