    • @ogcowboy5743
      @ogcowboy5743 6 місяців тому +7

      The police officers job is crowd control.
      He has to be positioned between the marchers and the spectators.
      Street is too narrow to accommodate bands marching in that width,
      spectators and a security zone manned by police.
      Suggest either reducing the width of that marching rank by 2 marchers
      or marching at close interval instead of double interval.
      This is a suggested fix for the parade directors to make for future parades.
      I have ridden horses in parades and also rode as an outrider
      doing safety/security for a womans riding drill team.
      The parade routes were wide, but the drill team modified their routines
      to be safe and keep no less than 10 feet from the spectators.
      Simply just modify the parade formations to safely accomodate the performers,
      the spectators and police. There should be at least 6 feet, perferably at least
      8-10 feet between spectators and marchers, giving police space to work as well.

This cop backed into the student and then assumed it was the student who bumped into him. Not only did he have the wrong perception (in the cop’s mind he believed the student bumped him) but then he also assumed the student ran into him on purpose rather than assume it was on accident. As a musician myself we have enough things to worry about. The routes are marked, and we spent a lot of time making sure we spaced out correctly. It's the cop's job to keep the route clear for us. That's what they are there for to keep people out of our way including himself. That parade is often a mass of humanity, beast and machine. Once it gets going it can't just stop and often time we are not looking where we are going because we are looking at the music or the leaders. They would tell us to double knot our shoes because tripping could get you trampled and start a chain reaction, and there is no way you can stop to tie them. It's in the publics best interest that that parade line is treated as if it was one big slow, but unstoppable beast and the policemen's job is to keep its path clear. This man besides having a bad attitude doesn't understand his job. He is there for the O.T. pay and not to make sure the parade goes off without a hitch.

    I’m so glad you are supported by the community. Very sorry your son was treated so badly by an authority figure miss using their power and authority that way, no wonder young people have little respect for law enforcement.
    If this incident went down as has been presented, after an investigation, then this adult authority figure should be fired as they are making choices not suited to their job. Obviously they can’t be trusted to conduct themselves in a professional, upstanding manner especially around young people.

    The lunacy of this situation is that it’s a parade-IN NEW ORLEANS! What citizen is not acutely cognizant of instruments and formation? The officer, if minimally human, should have been cheering those young people on. His job was to protect the marchers-oops.

  • @RubyRadio88
    @RubyRadio88 6 місяців тому +7

    In this situation, the marching band was the talent and the police officers were security if security roughed up the talent at a venue that security guard wouldn't have a job. We're supposed to hold police officers to a higher standard than security guards and this is not a higher standard. This is someone who took a personal accident as a slight and escalated the situation. That type of lack of impulse control has no place being a cop,
    security guard, not even a meter maid.
