Thank you for posting this video. It seems though that you have forgotten to mention (and if I missed it I apologise) that the points should just be opening when the ignition mark lines up with the nut.
To Dave Draycott, my Lister D had no ignition marks. I reset mine by removing the head and putting a dial gauge on a magnetic base and turning the flywheel to measure maximum stroke on the top of the piston. I then engraved a line on the flywheel in line with a mark that I had previously engraved on the block. I then measured the circumference of the flywheel and calculated the distance for the ignition mark (though this dimension is given in the video in imperial measurement).
I do not claim to be an expert but a year and three carburettors after my Lister D croaked I managed to bring it back to life.
Now if I could reduce its gyrations whilst running................................

      I mention it at 1.47 and at 6.06 :-)

I had no idea Lister made a gasoline engine. When I get one of these things I will try to operate it as a Diesel start and Propane run engine. Now I have to find one.

They've very low compression so might not be possible.

@@Endfloat to clarify I would attempt this on a diesel.

but why? why not just run it as a diesel engine as it was intended to be run?

In truth timing these units accurately is very difficult as the timing marks are not very accurate as regards fixed points of reference on the static side and saying you have to line it up with a large nut is about as technical as it gets on these things. They will start and run when they are a fair way out. I have always favoured the diesel units to the petrol ones.
