You get the same watch from India even if it says Henry Sandoz. Camy. Tissot. ORIS.

Nice to see you back. I was inspired by your last hmt video and picked one up myself from ebay. For £13 better than I expected.

Nice one! Now you can check out the vintage Mumbai special Oris!

I use diamond paste and a cotton bud to remove rust and scratches from these watches. Works well. Great video. 😊

HMT uses Citizen sourced movements and the ST 96 was used on a number of entry level swiss manual wind watches ...Oris used KF movements in their watches around the 60s and 70s

if you like vintage mechanical watches, these are way better than the Soviets in my opinion. They are awesome if you have a small wrist. I've given them out as gifts.

Hate to break it too ya but the Oris looks much better on your wrist than that monstrosity you had on for the wrist watch check. The 35mm watch size is perfect for you. You should avoid those pretentious huge watches and stick with the smaller watches.

Agreed. I have been wearing 32mm-36mm. Anything over 40mm just looks silly to me know.

Damn, I just bought one of these, then found this video. Like you said though, it's a good starter as long as it works. Plus if I wanna try watchmaking in the future, it'll be a good low-risk watch to fiddle with.

The rusty case possibly points to an alloy case. Be careful if you're allergic to nickel, it can cause a bad rash. I think the movement is likely to be one of the cheaper Chinese seagull movements.

    • @TheChirpyPanda
      @TheChirpyPanda  3 роки тому

Ah that clarifies it, the rust is definitely not a good sign.

      DUXOT. WATCH.
And it’s a Swiss made watch from the 60s which says unbreakable main spring on the dial

So just to clarify, this is a fake Oris watch?

whenever in the back of a watch is written "STAINLESS STEEL BACK" it means the case is made of cheap soft alloy that is either chrome plated , gold filled or gold plated. Up to around the 1970s many solid Swiss brands used plated or filled cases. Only the back was real stainless steel .

The HMT comes with their own India movement which I don’t like as much as the FHF. ST 96 movement

@@TheChirpyPanda Fabrique d'Horlogerie de Fontainemelon (FHF) 96 is probably the most common movement used by a huge variety of watch brands; I have at least half a dozen watches of different brands, but inside they're all powered by the 96, making "which brand is better" somewhat irrelevant. That said, the 96 was a tremendous success for good reasons, and it also means parts, even brand new ones, are in plentiful supply, and practically every repairer knows how to fix it.For newcomers to the vintage watch field I tend to recommend a FHF 96-powered one as a toe-in-the-water starter, but in a watch which is as it left the factory back then!

It is hmt, and that’s why I would never buy one. The back case is clearly a fresh cut of a low grade CNC, totally obvious from looking at it. Real ORIS would be more expensive like $100 or more and inside would be a high grade stamped ORIS.

I used to sell Oris and I am very familiar with vintage and current Oris. I can tell you that there is not a single part of that watch that is Oris. The Oris logo changed over the years and you can usually roughly date an Oris by the subtle style differences in the logo. The dial is wrong, the hands are wrong. You can't even call it a franken watch because it is not made from any single part derived from an original watch.
That watch is 100% rubbish and should go directly in the bin. Nobody should be buying these fakes.

HMT watches are Frankenwatches? Are you kidding me? They are the only watches made by Government Of India! And they are built to last, albeit a bit simple in looks. Mine is going 8 years now.
