i love portnoy with what he has done with DT. he is one of my influences. but having heard ADTOE, i tried to cover/transcribe mangini's parts and damn, they're just so intricate and has tons and tons of time signature changes. let's face it, to compare the top 3 of portnoy in his whole catalog, that would be Metropolis, DOE, Nitghtmare to REmember. With just this song, this one song of mangini, this trumps them all.
All you have to do is look at the list of people he beat to earn this spot in DT. Thomas Lang, Achilles Priester, Derek Rody just to name a few. I mean for ruck sake, those are all world class drummers and Mike was the run away favorite. That's saying something.
