Nightmare to Remember pt2 Mike Mangini/Dream Theater2019

- Here is a drum mics/drum cam shot of the 2nd half of Nightmare to Remember. I left the crowd footage of them in at the end. They're so loud they're leaking through the drum mics with a delayed band echo of the venue walls. And no, those are not foot double strokes as thought by some. They are single strokes with dynamics/accents.
I was trying out a new camera and this is how I played the song that night as I do change parts to keep myself amused. It chopped its own regions, so here's one that is unchopped.
4:32 devastating blast beat 👌👌👌
Drum tech: Mr Mangini, how high you want your cymbals?
Mangini: Yes.
Also drum tech: Mr Mangini, which parts do you want on your kit?
Also Mangini: Yes
He explained in an interview that they're closer than they look, he actually has to barely raise his arm to reach them and it's much more confortable for him.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it probably also helps with the mic setup! His sound engineer must like him :)
Where they comfortable to him
😅
1:14 I just love the one handed 16th notes
So clean and crisp at the same time. I f love this man's excecution! 😜
The original one from the record is a lot better
@@scylla4342lol
@@gab2876 typical mangini fanboys saying the boring flat and evenly hit fill is better than the accented one lmfao
It's a shame but I highly doubt all of Mike's intricate ghost strokes, accents, rebounds and just the general complexity of everything he does can truly be appreciated in a live arena audio environment. Even with the best acoustics there's no way the audience can pick all of it up.
I remember Portnoy saying how hard those blast beats were, Mangini not only does them but doubles it, holy shit
@@Adrmeisterwerk exactly!
I Love the Portnoy's style, Lynch and creative sounds, but Mangini is freaky technical...really in the next level
When ?
Actually, he only doble the snare. I guess
@@victorroncaglia1798 Just being pedantic here but for anyone wondering, originally the snares are 8th triplets. Mangini turns them into 16ths which was pretty crazy, real nice.
So from 12 snare's per bar to 16.
Mark Riches ... please specify time stamp of this passage of 16ths, I am not really a drummer, and don’t know what m really hearing
Mike Mangini is just warming up lol😂😂😂
Thats right lol
When quick finger use can not be loud.
We need more of this!!!
Love that he can switch between left and right hand lead so flawlessly, awesome!
MONSTROUS!!! we need drum cams of every DT song with Mangini. I'd love it and it would shut the haters up
This is the reason why Mike Mangini is for sure one of the greatest drummer on the planet, awesome 👍
Ralf Egger I think he’s actually kind of boring. Doesn’t have the feel. Marco,Aquiles, and Lang have more feel and creativeness. As I honestly don’t see the technical part of him. It think it’s all very basic. Idk that’s just my opinion.
Peter Vazquez
I think you right.. some musician they had technique, but they don’t have creativity..
Agreed!
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Matheos Mendes he’s wack. 👁👁 just admit it.😂🤣
Mangini be like :
4:24 😴
4:32 😡
Mangini on 4:32 is 🙂
@@GiovaInThetube 😂😂😂
You also need to upload more drum cam footage like this
would be better if it were CD quality
tambem desejo isso
Check the Peter webber drum cam. (Havok)
Damn you really gain an appreciation of his skills when u watch him like this.
My favorite drummer ever and one of my favorite songs ever! I wish I could meet him before I die.
He's as funny to talk with as he is to watch. Had dinner with him and several others after a clinic in Waterford mi.
He is one FUNNY dude for sure.
TheAdmiral 2245 I met him at John petrucci’s guitar universe and he was so chill. We talked about drums and dream theater for like 20 minutes. Really a great guy.
I gotta tell ya Mike, I really love how you're allowing for your fans to have easier access to content that we can enjoy from you and DT. What a wonderful performance might I add and thank you for the super cool point of view!
Remembering your audition Mike 🍺 great display of talent!
4:25 Blast beat advanced level , 4:32 Blast beat Mangini level!...
There's a shit ton of drummers who do better blasts than those.
Gerardo Aguas-Baterísta/Drummer - there‘s always ‘better’ .... it’s quite meaningless in the end though. ;-)
Music is not just a competition of who is faster or better. In fact I would claim that Thomas Lang’s music who surely technically is a great drummer is very boring and uninvolving.
Mangini’s blast are still so good that normal drummers can admire them without someone telling them how average he is... ;-)
He is an amazing drummer and performer and it’s pretty clear why he made it in the Dream Theatre. The audition was extremely difficult.
Sounds like a machine gun
That was the cleanest blastbeat I've ever heard
That's a great blast for a non extreme metal drummer
A View From The Top of The Word'
Looks like he was playing absolutely perfect without any point of effort, looks like magic..... and most important always trying to connect the beat with the people, with a smile in his face. I always will love mike portnoy's theater but im in love with mangini`s theater. Can´t wait to see him live in London 2023!
I Was in Rio de Janeiro, One of The Best shows that I saw, You’re a Monster Mike!!
4:55 Nosferatu!
MrCarlrisian XD thank you
LMAO hahahahaha
oh my😂😂i legit didnt realize who that was for a sec
You win the internet from 5 months ago. That's some quality riffing right there.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
First off this isnt a competition between portnoy and ManGini , that said, Not only does mike make it look effortless, but it is so spot on. Its mind blowing how fast and articulate he plays, Massachusetts breeds some exceptional Talent, because along with the hard work I know he and others have put in, there is a certain level of God given talent in them as well.
4:31 bruh mangini is yawning while blast beating like wtf
I think that’s kind of a “fuck yeah, hard rock” jaw, not a yawn.
OUTSTANDING! Thank you Mike!!!! Your inspiration for me to be the best I can be is never ending... You are a true master and guiding light!
Those drums sound amazing
Yes!!! Tour videos are the best! Incredible performance! That setup is SO cool... and sounds SOOO GOOD!!! Kick drum floor toms!!!
Please, bring more of this! I had the pleasure to see you guys live on this tour and would love to watch your performances that close! You are the best!
I remember DT members use this song for the audition and mangini learn this song like everyday and everywhere
When Mike Mangini is making this easy. :D
I can't stop of watching!!! Just killer dude..!
Amazing footage. It is always a treat to see these cams of flawless playing. Thanks for sharing!
One of the best drumcam videos i have ever seen in my life 🤘 absolutly amazing 💪🤘😍😊🥁❤️
Beautiful, thank you Mike for sharing this, it is Amazing!!
This drum cam is so clean. I really love it, and, yeah love you too, Mike! Haha! Your chops are so effortless (esp. the blast beats) and amazing!
Sir Mike Mangini is really one of the greatest drummer in the world!
More videos like this one please!! Very interesting to see your playing. Too much to learn. 🤘
I actually very much like this setup. Makes for 2 different planes of stuff. And it makes it easy to see movement behind the kit.
The greatest MM. You're making it so much fun dude. Best. 😍👍👍
This song will never be played live this way again. So sorry he’s gone!
Mangini's hand and foot independence, dexterity, endurance, consistency is the greatest ive ever seen. The amount of practice and effort is very evident, it is like the metronome is following him
Wowww would love to have been at that big loud show, amazing mike, cheers!
I've been waiting for this since May 3, 2011.
Behold! Video footage of Mike Mangini performing the blast beat section of a Nightmare to Remember 😍
Tive o prazer de ver o show do Dream Theater no Anhembi em São Paulo em Dezembro e Mike Mangini é excelente. As passagens de bateria tremiam o chão. O Cara é um monstro. Toca muito!!!!
Your just incredible Mike. You have such a great attitude and seem to enjoy what your doing. Love it
God have heard our prayers, this is what we were waiting for!!!!! (omg 0:44, 4:32) √5??.... (√5=1-2Φ , Φ =The golden ratio)
Pleeeaasee more videos like this! You are the best drummer ive ever seen
Mike, you are the best!
It's amazing what you do with the drums
You are inspiration for me and many other musicians
A hug from Colombia.
Beautiful playing and footage Mr. Mangini, thanks for sharing it! Please upload that kind of content more often when your time allows it, and speaking of time, thanks again because you should be celebrating holidays with your closest ones and yet, find time to share with fans... Happy Holidays and New year
Mangini truly monster of drumming..👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
I love sound the gong floor 😍, very nice dude
I've been waiting for a long time to see such this clear footage of you playing this song since you're joining the DT audition on 2009... love it ❤️
Incredible musician! So glad I saw you in San Antonio!
it was definetly one of those nights you'll never forget! thnx mike for making it amazing!! it was trully a dream come true with Dream Theater! \m/
Yeah, the nights you'll never remember are always the best nights ;)
@@MrDick-kz8qc hhahahaah fml xD that's what happens when u're too into nightmare to "remember" hahaha damn.. well thnx for that xD
I saw these dudes live once and I got to see Mike Mangini's crazy drumset its probably the weirdest thing I've seen but its cool
The sound of that kit though. Incredible!
His style the way he plays drums is unique. Humble and very professional drummer.🤘♥️
You are a golden god of drumming, Saw it in person at Chicago. You are amazing!
I like this song very much. First it was for the lyrics, as they described a car accident on the time my father had one back when this was released.
And after the Audition, it's the first DT song I have seen Mangini playing. And he crushed it since this event.
Mangini, you're amazing!
Saw you in New Brunswick, NJ, and had the chance to see you close by on the Meet & Greet.
I was frozen and could not remember anything to say.
Some days after I just remembered that I would have wanted to say to you that I also played the Quads on my high school drumline in Brazil and I love your drumset layout!
He did a drum clinic at the store where I used to teach. He used my lesson room to warm up in.
Afterward some of the staff, Mike, and former Pearl rep, Doug Smith had dinner together. One of the most memorable nights of my life. I remember standing next to him to see which one of us was taller. I think he was by an inch or two.
I want to say that was in 2000, or 2001.
1:14 the right wrist so effortless the whole kit sounds amazing 🤘😎🍺
He nailed it in his audition, and kills it right here. Great job MM.
Absolutely perfect 💖💖
That drum kit especially the snare has to be the most amazing sounding kit I've ever heard, not to mention what your hearing is the actual sound before the mics send it through the p,a, PLEASE post more
Bro, awesome dbbl bass!
I still get amazed every time I watch the Zildjian-"Enemy inside" vid...that's some crazy drum work.
Mike your a God, I have been into Rock music and going to Concerts for over 40 years and in that time i have had the pleasure/privileged of seeing some of the best drummers in the world. Mike what your doing on a kit you have taken over the Crown and raised it to the Stars.
Dave
HULL, ENGLAND
Warung is the inspiration for the setup of the Mike's drum kit. They hang everything.
Mangini, es un dios, mi batero favorito de Dream theater. Saludos desde Santiago de Chile.
The amazing living legend..Mike Mangini the Master..upload some more please..
He makes it look so easy and structured. Genius.
Perfect timing on everything holy shit
Excelente, Mike! 🇧🇷
Mike plays so relaxed... amazing!
Smash those hunks of metal!! That's a whole lot of notes to play in one song, and many changing phrases to remember too. It's amazing what the human being is capable of when we apply ourselves with many hours of practice. Fantastic 👋👏👏👏
God this is sick. I've wanted videos of just this for such a long time. Blast beat was sick. Also those hertas on the kicks at 3:30 are super clean.
Watched DT 2 years ago and drums sounds so good when you are actually there. Would be cool to see Mike more energetic like in audition videos.
If you knew how much we love this type of videos. Please post more.
Would love to see more stuff like this shows you the real drum experience.
2:44 JP jumping along the crowd was one of the most epic moments of that night
And he's jumping while playing the riff!!! 🤘
Cosas que sólo pasan en Chile xd
So damn gooood!!! Keep on uploading this kind of videos 😃😃
This is whats called the next level of mike portnoy 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Impressive 🔥🔥🔥
Such amazing playing! Complex but not stiff; Mike really manages to retain machine-like articulation all the while grooving
I like you and Portnoy. I'm very happy you are (were) both part of my favorite band.
Crazy genius!
I simply love this video. It's so perfect
I would buy a complete "dvd" out of this video
I loved watching this tour live and I always like to watch it again
Forever on my heart seeing Mangini doing these moves
Please release a drum cam bootleg 🤞
Sounds really great and it's interesting to watch
Can’t wait to see you play in Oslo! 🤘
Sering sering upload yg ginian om, liat lo main live itu merinding disko, gas terus om mike
Purwo Singgih setuju gan
Gas om mike 🔥🔥
giyassssss!!!
Uppp uuuuppp
Saw you in El Paso this year and watched you the whole time. Best tour
This makes so much sense. Just play like a clock. (Diminished of course). Amazing, Mike. Thank You for putting it into perspective.
Master Mangini you are great
4:32 the wrist action is actually ridiculous 🤣
No words...except those! Yeah I do..BRAVO!!!!!
Thank You Mike
Mangini it’s a kind of octopus 🐙 damn!!! 🙌🏻
Remember the octavarium animation when it takes 5 of them to become octopus? well it takes only mangini now
That blastbeat was super powerful and sick!
Playing cymbals cleary tuned to exact notes played others sounds so cool! 🤩
He can play better than 99.9% of the population with his cymbals at the top of the Eiffel tower 😂
NoLifeTilLeather 13 he can play good. But I’ve heard better. Should check out between the buried and me. They’re drummer is sick. And I wouldn’t mind putting him above portnoy either. And portnoys been my almighty god for as long as I could remember lol
😂😂
@THEREV468 Love Blake Richardson, but Mike Mangini is the superior drummer.
Cymbal placement looks Fuckin’ stupid.
Great player though!!
@@Eric666morse yeah takes a lot of effort to reach those Mfs
I wish they had this drum sound on all the new DT albums instead of the studio mix they’ve been using
Crazy .. love how you playing drum mike
More and more . . . We need more
