Mike is a genius. Plus a warm and funny human. Met him on 4 Dream Theater meet greets. Teased him about breaking something tonight during the show. He said "nothing survives". He hits so hard. No waste of motion. He is a master of his craft. Sad he is no longer in Dream Theater. Good human. Mike it was a pleasure meeting you.

@@seetukka it’s not though. His hands are just as independent as his hands. He serves the music and plays fills and grooves related to what the rest of the band are playing. I just dont understand how anyone can even compare him to drummers like Neil Perth or Mike Portnoy who really can play and feel the rest of the band, has an amazing composing skills, have amazing groove and feel but still play amazingly technical parts. @@seetukka for someone with 20 years of experience you seem to be extremely fucking naive. I love Mike portnoy but no way shape or form could he play the pieces that Mangini has written. • @seetukka
      @seetukka 2 роки тому

@@ItsTheBongoman You just proved my point there saying that he cant play the parts MM plays. Yeah maybe not, but who cares? Its not about how fast you play. Its about the feel, composing and ability to make drumparts that match the music. All MM fanboys seem to respect is raw speed. Yeah MM has that for sure. Way more than Portnoy but what the hell, there are tens of drummers faster than MM😄 MM would be a good death metal drummer for sure but he is not particullary good drummer otherwise.

While I think he's a great drummer, after watching a ton of his videos, I feel his ambidextrous approach makes his drumming difficult for no real reason. I think it has the benefit of good reverb (which you can't expect from them playing at a venue) and also not having to worry about it being mixed with other instruments so there's no need for compression and eq etc outside of just making the kit sound good on its own. I do think keeping a bit more of a 'raw' sound goes a long way though. Just makes it feel less like you're hearing drums played on a computer.

He just dont have the ability to create amazing and mesmerizing drum parts. Theyre really average and there are thousand of drummers that could compose and play them. Also his performance looks bad. Mr. Mangini, it is such an honor to watch your art being communicated with "Bridges in the Sky." Letting others observe your word under such a microscope concludes that your level of life/family and health balance, performance ability, courage, musicianship, drumming technique, & possibly some spiritual journey, has surpassed the most advanced players of our time. I not only sit in silence in awe observing these clips but feel a deep sense of inner peace. Your intelligence continues to raise the bar in the drumming/artist/musician community, giving students of the instrument hope and encouragement during a time where routine practicing can be difficult amid such daily distractions. Everything all coming together, in such balance, for such a brief moment, 11 minutes... enough to demonstrate what truly can be possible! A lifetime of commitment celebrated. With that said, thank you. Wishing you and your family the safest, healthiest, and most blessed day out there. -K

    Flooding back
I will not grow in the light
Until I pass through the darkest caverns of my heart
    Dance with fire
Spirit guide erase the world outside
    Messenger of truth
    I trust in you
    Transform me now
    Sun
    Come shine my way
May healing waters bury all my pain
    Wind
    Carry me home
The fabric of reality is tearing apart
The piece of me that died
    Will return
    To live again
And at last the time has come
    To unite again as one
To the power of the Earth I'm calling
    Crossing bridges in the sky
On a journey to renew my life
    Shaman take my hand
    Sun
    Come shine my way
May healing waters bury all my pain
    Wind
    Carry me home
The fabric of reality is tearing apart
The piece of me that died
    Will return
    To live again
And at last the time has come
    To unite again as one
To the power of the Earth I'm calling
    Crossing bridges in the sky
On a journey to renew my life
    Shaman take my hand

Those were some mean crashes. You even looked angry on those cymbal triplets. That was a magnificent performance Mike, you are the most technical and precise drummer out there. Virgil Donati, Marco Minnemann and Thomas Lang are very technical too, and they're extremely talented, but I get an emotional vibe by the way that you hit those instruments. You have raw emotion.

Last few days I'm having fun with imaging the real drum sound in older records... I think I'm quite good at that mental excercise (since I know how it's supposed to be), but this is definitelly better experience. Thanks!

This might be a bit off, but I think Mangini is like the MJ of drummings, everything must be as smooth and perfect as possible, there's no other way. I think that while watching this, one might forget that in the end its a job, and a well done one, Mangini is always going the the whole 9yrds, really amazing!🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
