I might be too late but here's my POV between the two: MP drumming is like a synergy simply because he enhances the overall volume of DT. DT does not need him to be a big-brain drummer but rather to just make drumming complex to some extent at the same time being accessible for it to be heard around the world. He is indeed the so-called "soul" of DT or DT himself and no one could deny that fact since he literally gives morale boost not only to the entire band but also to the audience. MM drumming is too versatile and more complex than ever, therefore it has its own persona. The demand of DT throughout this change are dynamics and innovation which he exceeded in both. Since the remaining 4 in the band already had a big-brain, the next thing that all of us would like is a big-brain drummer. His drumming fits perfectly in DT in spite that it's not much of the norm but this is what a jack of all trades and master of all sounds like. The cons of both drummers are all based on implicit biases, so to each his own.
Technical music like this, or even Death metal music ( which isn't for all, I understand) goes over most people's heads. Most people can literally only comprehend so many beats per minute. That's why a lot of people refer to some metal music as being a bunch of noise so to speak. Actual scientific research has been done to prove that people can not understand technical music. Even most classical music, most can not distinguish between the different instruments that are being played. I'm going to suggest a band for you to check out, though they arent on the level of DT, they were heading in that direction though.... Control Denied is the band. Entonces no conoces a ningún baterista bueno. Jaja.
I didnt want to put any drum solo, but drums written by him...but that part when he hits the custom electronic toms is just too epic, i had to put that...I almost put the entire solo but thats not the point of this video
He is a great musician. I dont get the hate people throw his way. Its not like Jay "replacing" Joey in Slipknot. Mangini is a monster. His work in annihilator was madness. Obviously he doesnt let the hate get to him.
I wonder how many people realize that playing Pale Blue Dot **correctly** on that hateful friggin jungle gym of Mikey's and being piano string tight with the rest of the band even in a practice room, let alone in a large sound gobbling live venue is easily akin to a silver or gold medal performance in some Olympic sport. I truly believe that.

6:00 in the video are actually 2 different concerts. Amazing consistency there. Even if he's playing with a click.
He always plays with the click. And that's the main reason his live performances lacking the energy Portnoy had.
@@alpyre yes I agree somewhat. I understand why they play to a click, but I do miss the way the music is allowed to breathe without one.
Props to you for noticing! I wasn't sure if someone would notice that!
@@DT2BLZ I had to cast that to my TV to be sure hahaha
He sounds so much better with the more traditional set. The sky set discourages cymbal use
Absolutely genius
Mikes been getting heavier. Life is good with DT 🙂
The Mike we don't deserve
Best of Robot machine

Professor drummer
I wonder if the professor could keep up with Mike. Sorry Neil...
Finally a wort it channel to stay...and finally too a update channel about Dream Theater...
Yo what's up dude...thanks for your post, iam new here...
welcome :D
Strange guy, strange drum, strange music, cool mix
He plays and keeps the beat steady until time to fill or to change, he then throws fills that are ultra difficult. That alone makes me realize I'd love to do that myself...at my level anyway.
I just want to ask what planet Mike is from. Because no one I know of can do these things. Mike your dedication to this craft we all love is incredible. Really there are no words.......
Entonces no conoces a ningún baterista bueno. Jaja.
Aprendo bastante com eles, porém, pra buscar a perfeição desse gênio aí. 🙋🏻♂️
I like the rear view best. Starts at 6:00. Wish they showed more from that angle
Long life for the King Mike!
Thats amazing
Men, you just dont stop the video in the middle of the drum solo haha
I didnt want to put any drum solo, but drums written by him...but that part when he hits the custom electronic toms is just too epic, i had to put that...I almost put the entire solo but thats not the point of this video
@@DT2BLZ Thank you so much for your time for making this videos. Keep dreaming!!
THANK YOU!!!
Half man, half genie.
