    I was one of the neurosurgeons that put the second brain in him, and we're really pleased with the results.

    I might be too late but here's my POV between the two:
    MP drumming is like a synergy simply because he enhances the overall volume of DT. DT does not need him to be a big-brain drummer but rather to just make drumming complex to some extent at the same time being accessible for it to be heard around the world. He is indeed the so-called "soul" of DT or DT himself and no one could deny that fact since he literally gives morale boost not only to the entire band but also to the audience.
    MM drumming is too versatile and more complex than ever, therefore it has its own persona. The demand of DT throughout this change are dynamics and innovation which he exceeded in both. Since the remaining 4 in the band already had a big-brain, the next thing that all of us would like is a big-brain drummer. His drumming fits perfectly in DT in spite that it's not much of the norm but this is what a jack of all trades and master of all sounds like.
    The cons of both drummers are all based on implicit biases, so to each his own.

    I’m a guitarist and could listen to MM for days. When people say there’s no soul but I sit here with a huge grin it means it moves you in some way.

      Technical music like this, or even Death metal music ( which isn't for all, I understand) goes over most people's heads.
      Most people can literally only comprehend so many beats per minute.
      That's why a lot of people refer to some metal music as being a bunch of noise so to speak.
      Actual scientific research has been done to prove that people can not understand technical music.
      Even most classical music, most can not distinguish between the different instruments that are being played.
      I'm going to suggest a band for you to check out, though they arent on the level of DT, they were heading in that direction though.... Control Denied is the band. I would like to think, if Chuck Schuldiner was still alive, he would have pushed Control Denied to this level that DT is at.

    • @ericwilliams538
      @ericwilliams538 2 роки тому +2

      @@Alfred_-vp9ys source!!???....oooooh, you want actual proof to what I've said. To why the vast majority can literally only comprehend so many beats per minute.
      Honestly, I don't remember the exact video or exactly where I saw it.
      I'm very, very, very sure it's lurking about here in UA-cam land somewhere....but, in the meantime, while I'm trying to find the link to the exact video...feel free to try finding something about it yourself.
      Starting off with "beat per minute" and so on....

      @@ericwilliams538- I will check them out.
      I'm trying to get to that level of precision in the hard rock realm with The Lion Within. I was out of playing for a while when we recorded the first single, but the latest one (Starblind) is a step in that direction.
      Thank you for the heads up about Control Denied.

    I remember back in the late 2000, videos focusing on Mike Portnoy were everywhere. So much that it was easy to notice all the subtleties of his playing compared to the DT audio tracks.

      A full arm length, which makes them very easy to hit with the sticks (Arm extensions)! Also, that way they are actually quite close to him. He explained this way more detailed in an interview.

    As someone that's played in a bunch of nameless basement bands just for fun, I can't tell you how incredibly awesome it is to have a guy like Mangini in the room making those "fuck yeah" faces and head bang gestures here and there when you're jamming. It entirely transforms the mood of the whole deal. GOTTA have a guy like that in the room, always.

    This guy is one of the coolest guys ever for drummers I mean he's so laid-back and yet he is just I don't ever use the world's greatest drummer on anybody or anything cuz there's always somebody out there better but, I will say that he is one of the world's phenomenal drummers and such a nice guy I mean I've never met him I've always dreamed of me and him because he is such I mean he's such a role model for me and he's so talented and so gifted and so laid-back you know.
    I mean he can do things with drums that people can't even accomplish I mean you know of course he's with his professor at Berkeley you know why not of course he's a genius and he is and I was so glad when he got apart dream theater because he's just so kind and so considerate and caring and love the fans and loves to play and shows it you know he's got this monster set, and he's using a double bass pedal instead of two bass drums that's pretty cool.
    also I love drum can's because they give the viewers the opportunity to see what most people have never seen before you get to see what he sees you get to hear and to me that's something that is totally epic so yeah please keep uploading more videos.
    because drum cams give the opportunity for people to realize how hard it is to do what they do
    and you hear what they hear you see what they see and it's not as simple as you think for one being the drummer in the band is not simple especially if you're in well but they call starting out bands or beginning.
    I was in a band called Aftershock and it was my band and I was the drummer and I love to play and I played for many many years and unfortunately the band broke up due to drug abuse that are lead singer had gotten into and not going to bore you with the details but we were about ready to get signed with a record company in Wilmington North Carolina and unfortunately we were in Charlotte and it never happens.
    no recently I was involved in a horrific car crash on New Year's Day were someone hit me head-on at 125 miles an hour total speed he was going 90 I was going 35.
    During that crash I broke my fibia , my kneecap and had a compound fracture to my left forearm and have nerve damage right now on my left arm doctor say that I'll never play drums again and to be honest I guess you say I'm okay with that because I was able to play when I could.
    So there you go that's my opinion

    • @DT2BLZ
      @DT2BLZ  4 роки тому +8

      You sound like a very nice guy too! I loved reading your opinion, it was first a joy, then sadness appeared when i read about your accident and consecuences. But I kept reading, and I was happy again. I then readed again the whole thing and was surprised how nice you wrote it all, with no sadness at all, and not lame victim stuff.
      I hope you can overcome your problem, and i also hope you will be able to play drums again.
      Peace and love.

      Man I hear you. I have a beautiful Pearl kit sitting in a pile in the other room because I can't play where I live. I've been playing a cajon during worship service at church. We're trying to get the older folks Keen on introducing a kit. When I see the amazing stuff these guys do it makes me not even want to get on it, haha. I completely understand what you mean when you say it makes you ashamed to call yourself a drummer. But I always have to tell myself that it's all about having fun. I never had any formal training or band experience in school so I'm not one to go blowing the kit up, but I can get in a good Groove and have good timing timing. It is what it is. Just be grateful you can play. I've had to endure a couple years long chunks not being able to play my kit

      No question MM is on another level, I think with DT fans who say MP is better, it’s not so much chops, it was chops plus showmanship. That goes a long way. MP is like the most amazing BBQ on earth and MM is like Noma restaurant in Copenhagen. While Noma is another level in food, it’s not flashy. It’s subtle and an acquired taste. Not tangible for everyone. MP is a main fabric of DT....I can even argue the heart and soul of the band. Chicago still went on after Peter Cetera left, but was not same afterwards. Same here with DT.

    guys so talented and fast, a true genius, but idk, its so hard to get over MP, I guess its fair to say that because (at least for me) DT musics before and after portnoy are so different in terms of being "enjoyable"... idk, maybe I'm being nostalgic or something

    6:00 in the video are actually 2 different concerts. Amazing consistency there. Even if he's playing with a click.

    • @alpyre
      @alpyre 4 роки тому +2

      He always plays with the click. And that's the main reason his live performances lacking the energy Portnoy had.

      @@alpyre yes I agree somewhat. I understand why they play to a click, but I do miss the way the music is allowed to breathe without one.

      Entonces no conoces a ningún baterista bueno. Jaja.
      Lo que hace no es nada mas que blasbead y polirritmia. No digo que sea facil. Pero bateristas buenos lo pueden ejecutar. Y lo facil de mangini es que es un robot. Eso es lo criticable que muchos fans de dream teather le critican. Que suena a robot y le falta el groove. Lo mas difícil a la hora de ejecutar como un bateríasta es imitar su groove. Mangini suena muy cuadrado y aunque parezca difícil, no lo es tanto.

  • @MITOMITO-TOCLIPEESHOWevintee

    Acompanho o trabalho de outros bateristas. Aprendo bastante com eles, porém, pra buscar a perfeição desse gênio aí. 🙋🏻‍♂️

    He is a great musician. I dont get the hate people throw his way. Its not like Jay "replacing" Joey in Slipknot. Mangini is a monster. His work in annihilator was madness. Obviously he doesnt let the hate get to him.

    I wonder how many people realize that playing Pale Blue Dot **correctly** on that hateful friggin jungle gym of Mikey's and being piano string tight with the rest of the band even in a practice room, let alone in a large sound gobbling live venue is easily akin to a silver or gold medal performance in some Olympic sport. I truly believe that.
