THIS ERA of Hetfield.... the hair, the look, the voice.... so underappreciated
I concur, top5 metallica songs.
@@hartmann75 of this era or all time???
@@ChrisJohnson-ql1xn all time for me.
Although the ending is just repetitive but the beginning is the most unique song I ever heard. Just my opinion
@@computersurgeon_ its deffo in my top 10
Mr. Hetfeld, your voice AND you're guitar have only barely gotten better. It is tour CONTROL that has mastered through use.
Yep, this is from a 2 disc set done with the San Francisco Orchestra led by the late, great Michael Kamen.
And there was a S & M 2 released on the 20th anniversary of the first one.
One of the most primal vocalists in the history of music. It's like a lions roar.
@@Liviu-zg1pg No James Hetfield
@danw3735 Absolutely a Beast!! 🤘🤘〽️
Your face was a picture with suprise.
S&M is one of the greatest concert videos ever made imo. You should watch the whole concert.
Agreed James’s falsetto in this song is perfection.
Hi Inna, this is off the live album S&M. It was recorded over 2 days in April 1999 with Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony, conducted by Michael Kamen.
Some fun facts about this performance for you Inna:
~No Leaf Clover was written specifically for this concert and with the orchestra arrangement in mind.
Micheal Kamen, the San Francisco Symphony conductor was legendary and worked with many big rock bands when strings, horns or anything was needed.
~The concert called S&M (Symphony & Metal) took place and filmed/recorded on April 21 and 22, 1999, across the bay at the 3500 seat Berkeley Community Theatre on the campus of the high school I graduated from, a stage I personally stood on and performed on several times years before, so this literally hits close to home.
~This was the first and only time this arrangement would be done until a follow-up of this concert 20 years later at the Chase Center in San Francisco, also with the SFS but without Micheal Kamen this time due to his passing in 2003. I feel the 1999 S&M show is much better because of the smaller venue and acoustics and close vibe of the theatre and smaller audience that l feel made it more special.
Oh and this would be bassist Jason Newsted’s last album/film with the band.
Glad you enjoyed this surprise performance Inna :)
Your going to have an eye opening experience I have seen them 11 times. My first time was on the and justice for all tour back when they ruled the world 🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🤘
THIS IS ON METALLICA S@M ALBUM
This is an awesome song. Great reaction. Nice to see you grooving Inna.
Also if you like the orchestral mix with Metallica the entire S&M album is a collaboration of many of there most iconic songs backed by the San Francisco orchestra
Hi Inna. It was a special fun collaboration with the San Francisco Symphonyn for the night. Loved it. It was epic. Enjoyed your reaction. You are going to see them live? How awesome is that? Thanks for sharing.
Back in 2019, Metallica did two shows with the San Francisco Symphony, a project called "S&M"(Symphony & Metallica). In 2019, they did another two shows with the SF Symphony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of S&M and the grand opening of the Chase Center arena. For S&M2 they played a lot of the songs they did for the first S&M shows, plus some new arrangements of songs they've put out since 1999. This song and another one were written specifically for S&M, and while I don't think they play the other one much if at all, they've played No Leaf Clover at many of their concerts without the orchestra. Both the origninal S&M and the S&M2 shows are available on CD & digital, as well as movies of both concerts.
This particular song is one of the best live performances I've ever heard
I always felt metal and classical were a lot alike. Metallica proved that point when they did this. I love hearing their songs with an orchestra added to it! This song was made just for this concert but you should check some of the other songs they did at this concert.
Many would assume that the song was written specifically for this collaboration which is untrue.
In bonus material released with the DVD of this concert has James stating that these were songs that incomplete and had been in the works.
This is a masterpiece great reaction
The S&M album is by far my favorite Metalica album. It has the bulk of the Black album, 2 songs written just for that concert (this song is one of them) all done to this level with the orchestra.
Yeah they made this song just for this concert. So it's crazy to hear how amazing Hetfield was live at this time. No editing, his vocal acuity was amazing.
I'll give u the info... This was in 1999 from the Metallica live album (and concert video) 'S&M' which teamed the band w/ the San Francisco Symphony conducted by (late) classical composer/ arranger Michael Kamen (who had arranged the strings for the song 'Nothing else matters' and worked w/ Pink Floyd, Queensryche, etc.) ... Metallica performed 2 nights w/ playing a set of their songs enhanced by the classical music from the orchestra behind them... For those performances, Metallica also wrote 2 original songs that were performed for the occasion on those nights - 'No leaf clover'... and '- (minus) human'... which Michael Kamen also helped arranged for the concerts.
The rest of their set consisted of their classic tracks like 'Enter Sandman' ... 'Nothing else matters' ... 'Master of Puppets'... as well as newer songs from the 'Load'/ 'Reload' albums - 'The memory remains' ... 'Bleeding me' ... 'Until it sleeps'... etc.
A remarkable track was the performance of their 1984 instrumental track 'The call of Ktulu' w/ the symphony.
Following Metallica's performance and symphony album, Deep Purple (who had originally recorded a 'Concerto' album in 1969) revisited that format in 2000 and recorded a live set w/ an orchestra... Scorpions also recorded a set 'Moment of glory' recorded w/ the Berlin Philhamoniker in 2000... Kiss released 'Alive IV' in 2003 recorded w/ a symphony orchestra in Australia.
The previous year in 1998, Metallica toured for the 'Reload' album and decided to record a batch of new cover songs... That was released in '98 as the 2 CD 'Garage inc'... which included a disc of all their past cover songs by bands like Motorhead, Diamond Head, Budgie, The Misfits... and newly recorded covers of songs by Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Nick Cave, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.
To promote the album, Metallica did an entire set of cover songs ... and had a Metallica tribute band open for them and play their original songs.
In 2019, Metallica returned to play another set w/ the San Francisco Symphony... Michael Kamen had passed away, so they recorded and released the 'S&M 2' live set w/ 2 new conductors (bassist Robert Trujillo had replaced Jason Newsted at that point) and they included tracks that were not in the first 'S&M' set - 'All within my hands'... 'The day that never comes' ... 'Halo on fire'... etc. However, the 'S&M 2' album was not as successful as 'S&M' when released in 2020.
I saw this live. It kicked my ass.
RIP kamen. 🤘
I wish I was there
You need to react to All Within My Hands from their S&M2 concert!
Ok, first time hearing your reaction to no leaf clover. Starting!
TRULY i believe one of their most UNDERRATE songs EVER. to me this is one of the most amazing performances and they held this song for so long before releasing it with the orchestra, perfection! def the right call, it punches hard! the solo is the perfect tune and pacing too! love it!
God I love this song so much! \m/
"When the soothing light at the end of the tunnel, is just a freight train coming your way..." One of my favorites of theirs. This was after James took actual vocal lessons and you notice when he hits that note...
This is the first time Metallica used pitch correction on a release. It sticks out like a sore thumb on the high notes.
No leaf clover is off S&M (the first one, they did a follow up S&M years later). It is one of several songs in memory of their bassist cliff burton who passed away in a Bus accident while on tour in Europe
Great reaction. :)
They played the song without orchestra not long ago. You can find the performance on Metallicas UA-cam channel.
I saw this version twice & once with Robert. I never got to see the king Cliff (R.I.P)
Hi beautiful, than😢 for your reaction! As a metallic die hard fan, it's called, listening! You are loved, my friend! 🤟🤘💪
Metallica is otherworldly classical Music added electricity 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
this song is very cool their music goes pretty well with an orchestra they do have some progressive music which works well
Hi Inna, thanks, you rock! 🤟
Thank you! 😊
If you liked this you gotta check out The Call of Ktulu from the same concert, it's one of their instrumental songs and it went so well with the orchestra.
Great reaction Inna.
This song was 1 of 2 written with the San Francisco Orchestra especially for the S&M, love this song well the whole S&M concert adding classical music to Metallica classic songs such as One is epic.
I saw them live 2 years ago and when they played this song it was a backing track for the orchestral parts with footage from the S&M concert shown on the big screens.
You must check out the S&M Album
Since your going to their concert. You need to listen/react to these Albums: Kill'em all, Ride the lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All
Great choice!
This is so different from everything you know of Metallica, because this is Metallica… WITH AN ORCHESTRA!
I love the 1999 S&M performance. I most particularly adore the renditions of “Bleeding Me”, “Outlaw Torn”, and “ the thing that should not be “.
You have to watch Home Free Man of constant sorrow this is the greatest video ever
This wasnt on an album so Kamen wrote the orchestration to a new song he didnt have previous access too which is amazing in itself lol. Bleeding Me is my favorite song this concert turned out
The S&M (Symphony & Metal) album is fantastic! The best music artists in the world study classical music as a foundation for their craft.
The whole Album is with this Orchester S&M Album
love this mix classical and rock/metal. Epica do this great way: check "Epica retrospect live" "Design your universe" is a good start or "Sancta Terra" (a duet with the goddess Floor Jansen from Nightwish).
The "Black" album was only controversial because the die hard fans thought they sold out and went commercial. It was still great music
Check out some of their 80's shows, they were hungry, angry and unstoppable! Current "tallica" is a shell of themselves at this point.
Agreed. "Day on the Green" from 1985 gives an idea of what they were like. Back then the only Metallica song on the radio was "Fade To Black" and only then it was only on the heaviest of FM stations. Yes, I've just aged myself...
I saw them on Master, Justice and Black tours when they were at their prime, can't listen to them live now, kinda sad.
@@maldad9073 Damn! Your lucky! 1st time I saw them was in 94 when they down tuned a full step, Lars took out 1/2 his toms and Jamez started yodeling WHOOOO YEAHHHHH BABY! Instead of screaming like a maniac.
@@Darth_Stewie_ You ever see the Toronto show from 86? They play 20-30% faster. It's insane! They must have been coked out of their minds.
@@NPK476The spring of 86 was a blur to me. I was getting ready to graduate high school, then back-to-back came Ozzy with Metallica opening, then about a month later came Dio with Accept opening. Later that summer I saw Van Halen (without Dave, unfortunately). The band definitely changed directions after Cliff Burton was killed.
Hola.
Jeff Haley Band - See the light.
Saludos.
If you loved that you should do the same thing with Guns N' Roses, November Rain.
Hi Inna, I come from Germany and I can recommend the band Oomph with the song Labyrinth.
Thanks for your content ^^
If you want the perfect merger between classical music and Metallica, check out the S&M version of Call to Ktulu from the same 1999 concert :)
you should check out metallica and mariane faithful the memory remains one off the great songs
React to fade to black
Hit the lights live 1983
No remorse 1985
Seek&destroy 1985
The four horsemen live 1987 Gothenburg or 83
These are the best vocals from james I think
GREAT SONG CHOICE TO REACT INNA
This is more ‘Romantic’ than ‘Classical’, but-you’re not wrong.
Hello there hey there
Enjoy the show! But just beware that whenever I saw them live my hearing was shot for about a week after.
Hi Angel
The beginnings of Symphonic Metal 😂
❤Підписався, коли дізнався, що ти з України (у відео про Jinjer). Дивлюсь в осноаному заради реакцій на MetallicA🤘. Успіхів і натхнення!
hello INNA
The guy who dove off the stage was Skrillex
You have an of. I don’t look at such sim but I can tell that you do
This one is rare to hear live, not as rare as Dyers Eve or Eye of the beholder
JASON NEWSTED
James voices in 1999 is........
Same song from Metallicas S&M 2 i think is a bit better though there are some that likes this version BOTH are symphony
Metallica has produced 2 live albums with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra. I think heavy metal is the closest genre of music to classical music.
Can't believe you went into this without even researching S&M. Jeez ...
*1999
This was like Metallica with a fifth member.
Try other classics of them with Orchestra.
Megadeth
Unfortunately James has lost the magic in his voice, father time has claimed yet another great.
Sadly they lost their guitar tone 30 years ago
One of my favs...and you are clueless....lol...ya Goofy m8te from Australia
