Lavender flowers are very tasty in lemonade. And the prunings can be laid in garden around veggies to keep pests away.👍🏻🙋🏼‍♀️

I have five different varieties of lavendar. The French type is better in cosmetics/skin care and makes a lovely bath, just steep in a big pot and put into the bath. English type is better for culinary, I put it in my tea, with bergamot. Lavendar is one of my favorite plants!

Brian, I have a huge lavender plant in a planter box about 3 feet off the ground and the bees absolutely love it. But my 15 year old Australian Sheppard mix will spend hours under it, it shades her and she loves the smell. She will come in covered in lavender! That is her happy spot in the yard. So I do not trim it much, just the spent flowers and in a few weeks there are more where those were.

I use mine almost exclusively to make lavender Arnold Palmers. Half black iced tea, half lemonade. When brewing the tea, I add one teaspoon of lavender in a tea ball per bag of black tea. This will be my second season of growing, and it already looks like the harvest will be much bigger this year.

I love the smell and the color but not so hot on the tea. I didn’t know how to prune any of the plants shared today so thank you for this video. Lavender is one of the ingredients in some Herbs de Provence mixes, (in North American blends). Rosemary, Savory, Thyme, Lavender, Basil and Oregano. Some include also: Marjoram, Tarragon and Bay Leaf. I'm currently two herbs away from making my own, (Marjoram and Savory). I may have to buy plants on those. Might be worth drying some out to make your own mix.

In Oregon the evergreen Grosso has run amock along the front west retaining wall because it doesn't like being pruned back hard to "mound". It likes to have a hole in the middle of big and woody branches like sagebrush on the prairie! Tried multiple pruning throughout the year. Tried once a year. Results are the same. Freestyle, all over the place branching. But you can't beat the fragrance and nice long stems for weaving in ribbon for sachets.

I put in two dwarf lavender, killed one by over pruning, and the second one is very sad with one or two spindly stalks and the rest mostly dead wood. I don’t really know what I did wrong or if it’s salvageable. We are in the same zone.
I have a lot of wood on my sage and I haven’t dared trim below it though I’d like to, but fear killing it. I must admit I can’t bear to cut back the blooms though. Right now it’s the stunning centerpiece in full bloom making the bees happy. Maybe I should just plant more of it, one to keep as culinary, and this for the bees. With this rain my parsley has gone crazy and self sown every where. I didn’t think about chickens! A neighbor has some maybe they’d like my herb trimmings. I hate tossing them come trim time.

Do you dehydrate your herbs for cooking or make any essential oils from them? I also see where some of them can be made into healing salves and tinctures. I heard you say that most of them will go to the chickens. Do the eggs change their flavor slightly if you feed them a large amount of any one herb?

I have never made essential oils but yes dehydrated them. It doesn't seem to change the taste of the eggs

How do you prevent weed/grass from growing on your garden or anywhere that doesn't have plants? It looks so clean!
