I am wanting to invest insome this year to help in my senior years. Brian!!! Good to know info about Lavender. I was successful in starting some seeds and after plants starting putting on second to third set of leaves I usually start fertilizing. Thanks Brian!! Blessings to your family and team.
I grow my Lavender in my aerogarden. When it hits 4" I remove it and pot it up in just organic soil. When the temperatures good I put it in a pot with my Rosemary and I use compost/perlite and organic soil. I do it every year and my porch smells so good with my morning coffee. I love your variety of Lavender. I think im going to try that next year.
Love the look of the Spanish lavender! At the last house I plant the lavender in a cement block and it did really good! I got the idea from P. Allen Smith. Have a great weekend Brian and everyone else 🤗💕🤗
I got lavender this Spring when the leader at church said it repels mosquitos. It works even though it has stopped blooming for now. I put the pots on the deck and sit outside during Zoom Bible Study or dinner. Yes, I have a mosquito net over my table umbrella but with the lavender, the mosquitos aren't around to sneak in while I have it unzipped. Maybe I'll get the lavender in the ground next year. This video taught me to remove the catch trays from under the pots so the water will drain completely out the holes.
This is so helpful. I have a friend who keeps giving me lavender cuttings and it's hit or miss whether they survive planting. Now I know what to do better. Thanks!
I actually planted lavendar next to my front door in basically clay soil. I dug out a good circle and added compost. It has been 2 years this is 3rd. Every year it grows back awesomely with no extra care. This year i am cutting all the dead branches from last couple years. I already see new growth so I probably waited too long but so much is going on. Oh well. I will post it in a week or so when done.
Thank you. I love lavender and have tried growing it several times with no luck. Your video gave me information I didn’t have before so I may try it again.
First time ever trying lavander, keeping fingers crossed. Munstead started from seed middle with some ok results, plants are 4/5" tall. Also did a cold stratification for about 30 days in the refrigerator with two different seed source with munstead...pretty Good results. Some in pots , and a few small plants in the ground , see what happens. Fragrance is spectacular even from the smallest plantings. Crappy soil neutral to slightly alkaline information came right from a Lavander grower. Extreme patients from seed.
I’m so jealous of how easy a spade goes into your soil! Heavy clay here, and the only time I can get a spade in like that is after a good soaking rain and enough days of drying out that you find that sweet spot where the soil is easily dug because it’s damp and not so wet it’s sticky. It’s a very small window of time.
Try sprankling the soil with microbes solution.. Maybe with microbial solution (like jadam's or eco enzyme, or others) and after a while it could make the soil perform better...
I took over my garden in 1978. Very heavy clay. I bought in 3 tons of cow manure and spread it. Turned the soil before winter frosts. Added compost from two large bays that are always working. Now the soil is beautiful.
Thanks for posting this information. I now feel better knowing I can plant my Lavender in pots. Snow bird here from Garden State to Sunshine State 9b. I so miss some of the plants I had the pleasure watching grow there in the North. A smile on my face now. I am going Lavender shopping! Peace and Blessings to you.
This vid came up on my FB feed. I am thinking about planting lavender in my small perennial bed so this vid was timely. Thank you for the information & demonstrations. Gotcha a new sub.
I used a large pot. Stacked the bottom with rocks, used an indoor outdoor soil, added lava rock and perlite for drainage. Already looking better from the store.
I've never seen Spanish Lavender before, it's really beautiful and one would fit in my sunny border at the front... I just put in a couple of Iris last autumn, so not sure I really have room.
I’m in Connecticut zone 6B and despite our wild winters, the lavender I planted summer of 2020 has come back each year! I do a thick layer of mulch in my garden so I think that has something to do with it. Rosemary however dies in our winter and I buy new plants each summer.
I am in zone 7. I worried about my potted lavender outside over the winter, but it did well and has really bounced back now that we are getting warmer weather.

Another pot is on the balcony face west looking so miserable no flower at all, moved to shade area the same What I did wrong 😞
You may need to water it more frequently. I'm having to water mine every other day. I totally drown it when I water it. It's in a big plastic pot with good drainage. I'm in the desert of Phoenix Arizona, USA. It's very hot here. It's been around 115f (46c?)the last couple days, and so far so good. It does get full sun, too and it's always stressed that the Phoenix sun is not the same as everyone else's full sun.
I tried last year to start lavender seeds and nothing happened. I tried again this year and had success! I sort of did a little experiment. I did the cold stratification method on half of them and then just planted the other half into a Styrofoam cup, and started indoors with both. I also over seeded both, and both were successful. In fact, the Styrofoam cup with the seeds that I did not cold stratify had more success. I already transplanted them into bigger pots outdoors. I’d say they’re probably about 3 inches tall and look really good. They also smell amazing.
Great info. I bought and potted some Spanish Lavendar about 3 weeks ago but i think i dont get enough sunlight because they are wilting and the stems have turned gray. They get about 7 hours of sun. I'll keep trying to save them if i can.😊

Thanks for the great content Brian! I actually had some lavender I bought, but waited until I could get to this video before planting them. Unfortunately I may have waited too long. The leaves have really yellowed, which made me think I may have been watering them too much, but when I pulled them out of their temporary containers today, the soil in the root ball was dry. Hopefully they take to the new spot and start thriving again. Otherwise I may need to get some new ones and put the in the ground immediately.

@Next Level Gardening Hi Brian, I have learned and of course, that when moving an established plant from one planting site to another, it is very important to prune it immediately to reduce the shock of planting and if the plant is planted in a pot, I place it in the shade for a day. I live in a very hot and dry place in the summer, it only rains in the winter for about four months plus or minus. Mediterranean climate . This is a question for Brian. I just watch your Blue Berry planting video. You purchased a pot from Sam’s Club (White). What was the pot made of - plastic or pottery. Do the plants do ok in plastic pots - roots don’t cook in the summer? I live in Los Angeles. Thank you. I know this isn’t related but Emilie suggests I post this question on your latest video. Thanks so much - big fan!!!
How severally can I cut my lavender back. It has been growing in a container for several years (10) and it is taking over the area. Your help would be appreciated.
I grew lavender around my pond and forgot to prune it last year, now it's randomly woody...can I cut the mass from the wood and plant that part with rooting hormone or will it kill it?
Hi Brian, how does the lavender topiary hold up in wind? I trained a rosemary as a very tall standard in a traditional lollipop that I keep inside or in the greenhouse, as I think the wind would break it. Plus I’m zone 3 anyway. I’ve been wanting to try a lavender but want to keep it outside in the summer. Your lavender standards look really sturdy. I’m thinking if I trained the lavender outside (and not so tall), it will be strong.
Growing Spanish Lavender Standards (topiary) in plastic pots in a very hot climate - generally in the 80's but it got super hot here recently, as high as 95F. I really need to understand how often and WHEN to water the lavender, so that I don't overwater it. Two of my pots the lavender is droopy. I suspect the pots they are in are far too small. One of the plants I put in a bit larger pot seems to be doing a lot better than the other two, even with the heat. But I am afraid of overwatering them. Can you tell us when to water the potted Spanish Lavender? I have heard repeatedly that they are NOT drought tolerant in pots, and not as young plants in the landscape either.. but worry about overwatering in plastic pots
Hey Brian, I had a quick question about your fertilizer routine I was hoping you might have a chance to answer! 😊 It is a bit unrelated to this video but I thought commenting on your newest video would be best! I bought neptunes harvest for my tomato seedlings and was going to follow your instructions to use it at half strength, however, i only have about 10 tomato plants and dont need 4.5 liters of fertilizer, so i did some math and reduced the ratio down to 1ml of fertilizer per 600ml of water, and found out i can use my kitchen scale to weigh out the 1ml as 1g. I was just wondering if this sounds right to you? 1g of neptunes harvest fish and seaweed per 600ml of water?
It sounds right but I'm far from a math whiz! The great thing about NH is it is very forgiving. You won't hurt your seedings if you're off one way or the other

Green globe. No I'm o lying using gopher cages on long lived plants... like roses and trees
@@NextLevelGardening I don’t know about you, by my artichokes here in 9b come back every year. Been in at least 10 years.
@@NextLevelGardening thank you 🙏
but there are so many varieties which are best for zone 7a nyc outdoors all yr around?
Cactus potting mix generally has lime in it from what I have seen, and I have read that Spanish Lavender does not tolerate lime?
Hi Brian, how does the lavender topiary hold up in wind? I trained a rosemary as a very tall standard in a traditional lollipop that I keep inside or in the greenhouse, as I think the wind would break it. Plus I’m zone 3 anyway. I’ve been wanting to try a lavender but want to keep it outside in the summer. Your lavender standards look really sturdy. I’m thinking if I trained the lavender outside (and not so tall), it will be strong.
What soil/soil mix are you using to pot? Looks different from your ground soil, TIA!
GOOD
Great information. What zone are you in?
I need help brining back to life my small indoor Spanish lavender 😭 please post a video on that. Specially when it comes down to trimming 😢
Do you mind if I ask what kind of mic you use?
What nursery you go to, I live San Diego, thank you
I got these at Walter Anderson
👍👍👍
Is this perennial type of lavender?
Growing Spanish Lavender Standards (topiary) in plastic pots in a very hot climate - generally in the 80's but it got super hot here recently, as high as 95F.
I really need to understand how often and WHEN to water the lavender, so that I don't overwater it. Two of my pots the lavender is droopy. I suspect the pots
they are in are far too small. One of the plants I put in a bit larger pot seems to be doing a lot better than the other two, even with the heat. But I am afraid of
overwatering them. Can you tell us when to water the potted Spanish Lavender? I have heard repeatedly that they are NOT drought tolerant in pots, and not as
young plants in the landscape either.. but worry about overwatering in plastic pots
