hi awesome video but i still have a question!! if u connect your Trezor to MM and swap to coins that are not supported by the trezor what happens to the coins?? I have staked some ETH on LIDO and got some stETH, the stETH is showing on MM but no on trezor suite APP because stETH is not supported yet!!! any help?
Hello, how are you? could you tell me why the Trezor works perfectly when I use Trezor Suite, but and when I use my Metamask account and I want to make some movement, the sign appears: connect my Trezor to continue and pair devices and when I check it and I continue, doesn't it do anything ? Thank you and regards
Unfortunately, when I want to connect trezor with metamask, MM doesn't see my Trezor Suite address in the list. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
I have 2 questions 1 - if i have lets say 20 or 30 wallets on ledger with one seed phrase, and i want to migrate to trezor , would it support all 30 wallets for instacne ? or it has restrictions on number of erc20 wallets you can create with 1 seed phrase? 2- When interacting with metamask , you need to allow metamask to be able to use trezor as you show in video! But if you hit > DO NOT ASK AGAIN < would it need to be applied each time you let's say restart your computer , or close and open the browser chrome ? or that will be remembered in the chrome ? And would i need to allow it for each website i use metamask+trezor or that is an general thing that you can disable permanently? THanks
Don't really know why you want/need 20 or 30 wallets, but, theoretically you can generate an infinite amount of wallets if you want to. (again not sure why you would want to). And yes the phrase can be imported into any hardware wallet (Ledger, Trezor, Keystone etc.) with no limit to the number of wallets. 2. Once you have created an account in MetaMask linked to a hardware device, it will always show up in your MetaMask accounts whether the device is attached or not. But you will need to have the device attached if you want to manage the crypto (trade or trnasfer)
I see that there are multiple wallet possibilities to add to Metamask but what if you want to buy a coin that doesn't have its own wallet like Avalanche C does. For instance, some small altcoin. Where do you buy it- on an exchnage like Kraken and then send it to one of these wallets? I just got the Trezor 3 and will be adding it to Metamask. Tnx R
thanks. Q1: I have a metamask account but only need a password to unlock it, metamask don't uses 2FA sec? Q2: Yieldnodes is issuing NFT's and they should be stored somewhere, is my metamask a place for this (I dont have a ledger but do have trezor)? thanks
If you loose your trezor, do you use your existing metamask seed to restore it? Or do you need your trezor seed to gain access to your metamask again? Cheers
If you lose your device, get a replacement and restore from your Trezor seed. MetaMask with treat it as the original when you connect. No need to restore MetaMask
It’s asking you if you want to use a secret wallet or not with a passphrase. You can safely skip that step if you’re just using the standard wallet. The same thing happened to me and then I realized that I did not have to enter that passphrase. There is a skip option. They added this feature since I recorded the video.
@The CryptoDad Don't think it's asking for passphrase it brings the pin dialogue board for me to enter on my Trezor but when I enter pin it searches then goes back to export public keys. Been trying this for 3 days now I have checked and double checked doing everything correct. Anyway have contacted Trezor and see what they come up with. Will let you know just one last thing should it work with Brave browser
i feel like ive been mislead: i thought i could just get the trezor wallet select what token/coin i wanted add it to my account and send the crypto. didnt realaise i have to do all this crap for alt coins. it doesnt say this when they boast of 9000 coins they have or what ever the number is. it doesnt even have avalance on the trezor sweat. is there a cold storage wallet thats just simple to use open source? i got a one key wallet thinking they say 5000 surely mine will be on there....no it doesnt have most of them and they are in the top 200 most top 100. most of them are things ive never heard off... aload of shxt
Fantastic service, simple for X-gen person to uderstand!! I've noticed that even when my Trezor is not connected to my PC, I can still populate an ETH balance into a DEFI protocal like UNISWAP. This concerns me - are my private keys stll on my PC hard drive now? i.e. how does Uniswap know what my Trezor backed Metamask account balance is when the Trezor device is disconnected? Thanks for your channel.
It might see your balance, but it's not going to allow you to make a swap or a transfer unless you confirm on the device. So no, your private keys are not on your computer.
Hi CryptoDad, nice video, appreciate it. However the title is a bit misleading as you do not secure a Metamask wallet with Trezor, you are rather using the Metamask UI to see your Trezor Wallet Tokens (which are still secured by Trezor). Just my 2 Cents ;-)
What if I lost my trezor 1. And had a meta mask wallet with private keys on trezor 1. And had some matic on there. On a account that doesn’t show up in trezor suite. If I have to have the trezor 1 to unlock sending on metemask how do I recover my account? Or would my funds be lost forever, I’m sure that any hardware wallet has a lifespan.and was just trying to figure out things like this ahead of time.
HI you mentioned that you can not add trezor to an existing meta mask account. do we have to create another metamask account with new seedphrase or can we add a new account on the existing metamask account? another youtuber mentioned not to use the same account but did not say if we have to open a new account with new seed phrase of can just add another account on the existing metamask account. thanks in advance
You don't need to create a new seed phrase in metamask. Your hardware device has its own seed phrase. But you are correct. When you connect a hardware device, it does create a new, separate account within metamask. That account is now protected by your hardware device, which has its own seed phrase. The existing accounts that you already had in Metamask rely on the metamask seed phrase that you wrote down when you set up metamask.
@CryptoDad so when I connect my meta mask to the trezor walllet it automatically creates a new account on meta which is connected to trezor. Is that account new account on meta mask protected when I use my trezor or would you recommend I open a new metamask account with new seed phrase?
@@ruhelmiah2133 it doesn’t matter whether you use your existing MetaMask extension or create a new one with a new seed phrase. The Trezor account will be just as secure.
@CryptoDad thank you for clearing this. Had so much mix information as some youtuber said if you add a new account on meta and connect with trezor it's will not be secure.
@@CryptoDad hi i followed your vid. every step went as its on your vid. only issue am having is the coin i transferred to my metamask which is connected to my trezoe wallet does not show any balance of the coin on my trezor walllet but the balance on metamask does show. i have transferred victoria vr from my old metamask wallet to the new ac which is connected to trezor on the eth network. any reason why its not showing the balance on my trezor but show on metamask?
It is because you keep your private keys offline.. the only key you connect eith metamask is your trezor public key.. but the private key to sign transactions stays offline. You will always needs your trezor physical device to accept your transaction. So this is the best and the safest way to mannage your crypto!
Hi Crypto Dad! Just heard about your site. Is there a wallet that you would use on Gemini with their setup vs another wallet. What do you think about Coldcard? Thank you- I am going to subscribe 👍🏻
All wallets are compatible with Gemini (or any other exchange for that matter) transfers are transfers. I prefer Ledger or Trezor based wallets. Never heard of ColdCard. But it looks like it only supports Bitcoin, so its not very flexible.
Great vid but I’d like to ask since I have invested in miner protocols and staking/compounding defi like EMP/Stablefuel etc. and these are all tied to my MM address , so how to transfer this to Trezor since there are no tokens in my Metamask ? thnx
Hi cryptodad. I have some questions about connecting Trezor to MetaMask using a hidden wallet (passphrase). Is there any way I can contact you? I am glad for any help I can get in my situation. Thanks
Not true. The only way someone can steal funds from a hardware wallet is by gaining access to the 12 or 24 word backup phrase. This is a common scam and a lot of people think that somehow their device has been hacked when in reality, they’ve just been tricked into revealing it to a hacker.
3 questions: - first u say you cant connect it to an existing account w coins already on it.. but later on you say that you can connect it to an existing account w coins on it no problem you do that even in the tutorial.. - so this means if you connect your metamask to your hardware walleet you dont actually need to send your coins over to the hardware wallet to enjoy the protection from the hardware wallet? and you can still use the crypto easily through using swaps etc..? - also, how expensive is it to send over tokens? ltes say i have to make a new metamask account and then send all of my crypto over to there? luckily i only have bsc coins so they might not cost a lot to send over right?
I think you may be referring to the coins that were already in my hardware wallet. Those coins will show up in Metamask as soon as you connect the device. Those coins are of course, protected by the hardware device. What I was trying to make clear was that if you already have accounts in Metamask that are NOT protected by a hardware device, you'll need to move them if you want the hardware protection. Fees vary greatly depending on the chains you're using (Ethereum, Polygon, BSC etc.) and how busy the network is at any given time. There is no one-size-fits-all estimate of transfer fees. However, every time you make a transaction you can look and see what the fees are going to be before you confirm. And you can decide whether you think it's worth it or not. Moving/swapping coins at off-peak hours is one way to mitigate high transfer fees such as late at night or early in the morning.
Hmm i dont fully understand what u mean by "youll need to move them if you want the hardware protection". How i understand it now is that: if you just connect your hardware wallet to your metamask account (even if theres already coins in it).. then you are protected and so you don't need to actually transfer your coins over to your hardware wallet for them to be protected by it. Is that correct? Thnx for the fast reply@@CryptoDad
@@jarno_art unfortunately, that’s not how it works. You cannot add hardware protection to accounts that you set up in MetaMask already. If you want hardware protection, the tokens have to be in the accounts you create by connecting the device. The new accounts created by the device will have the word “ledger” next to them. That indicates they are being managed by the hardware device. The accounts that were already there do not say “ledger” next to them. Those accounts are not being protected by the hardware device.
I'm soo confused, because in the video you have added hardware protection to accounts you had already set up with coins inside of them in metamask right?@@CryptoDad
@@jarno_art If I understand it correctly, it is not true that CryptoDad "added hardware protection to accounts [he] had already set up with coins inside of them in metamask." What he did was to use coins listed in his Trezor accounts to illustrate the set-up of a new MetaMask wallet connected to his existing Trazor device and to illustrate the flexibility of the MetaMask wallet and the Trezor connection for using trezor-listed tokens to buy, sell and move using Metamask. It was the Trezor device, not MetaMask, that already had tokens listed. Those Trezor listed and access-protected tokens were not listed in Metamask until after he set up the new Metamask wallet.
