Most of us, and I hate to say us as I'm barely in the z group, use pity to get others to pat us on our backs. So few youngsters nowadays have anything useful to offer, so they have to outsource feelings of usefulness and meaning to others, which offloads any stress they have to improve. The phrase, "You're perfect just the way you are" is a good example, as it almost always comes as a response to a depressing comment about ourselves. Self deprecation (fishing for compliments) followed by assurance (You're amazing in every way). Why change if everyone says they see you as perfect. To be fair though, most modern parents have taken the easy route for raising their kids - ipad parenting, which everyone knows is a terrible way to raise kids.

Everything was the end of the world, and nothing will make it better. Then the following week it’s not so bad and we realize that we overreacted. Hormones are a bitch! @@FlyXcur Depression is your own mind's survival mechanism telling yourself you need real life ACTION/ADVENTURE. Urging you to DO something to solve a problem you have or break the status quo. It exist for a purpose.
Of course you can always tackle your problems either creatively or destructively... And most people choose destructively because it's a easier and more sudden change of frame. Creative/productive change requires planning, skill, intelligence and hard work.
So at the end of the day, experiencing depression is a human condition. I won't say it's normal, because you should not experience it normally in your life, but everyone will feel bouts of depression when they will not be doing anything or doing something they don't wanna be doing. Because the mind knows your true desires and that's why it's sending signals of depression into your conscious.
People are given the wrong information when it comes to depression. 'Psychologists' label it as some sort of 'disease' you catch like ebola, and that you need to medicate yourself or 'think' your way out of it... That only makes it worse. Currently in 2nd year of postgraduate school in psychology so I might know a thing or two. Clinical deppression or MDD is something not everyone get. But your average old depression is a thing. And it's different than what you'd call 'The Blues' because that more of a moody feeling people get once in a while I believe. Regular depressions are a real thing (some scholars call them 'mild depression'), and they're caused/triggered by a loss of loved ones, overthinking, losing self-worth etc. This happens a lot among younger generations especially in uncertain periods of their lives. MDD or clinical depression happens without a trigger. It's something ingrained in your head. A mental error. This, people don't get often or even ever get it (likely below 10% of people world wide will ever get MDD). So yes, there is a thing as regular depression which is likely the term generation Z's use often, but please separate it from clinical or MDD because they are different. (P.S if bad English. It's my 3rd language)

Hopefully the same is true for Gen Z as with Millennials…But generalizations about millennials, like those about any other arbitrarily defined group of 75 million people, fall apart under the slightest scrutiny. Contrary to the cliché, the vast majority of millennials did not go to college, do not work as baristas and cannot lean on their parents for help. *Every stereotype of our generation applies only to the tiniest, richest, whitest sliver of young people.* And the circumstances we live in are more dire than most people realize.

There's a parody song of LMFAO's song "I'm in Miami bitch" from 2010 by a guy named Keith From Up Da Block entitled "Tight Jeans is Gay, Bitch." At that time, it was hilarious to me. It still is. Now, I say, to each his or her own and live and let live. Personally, I would rather see women in skinny jeans than men. There's already crop tops for men as if heterosexual women will be attracted to men wearing crop tops. Some clothes need to remain to be worn by women, not men, unless you're a homosexual or bisexual man. Either way, I don't care, but it's just my opinion.

My sister SEEMS like a millenial most of the time, but if she gets "triggered" (And she gets triggered by someone else being confident in what they personally believe, that's literally all it takes), her true form is revealed where she regurgitates Gen Z rhetoric pathologically, keeps telling everyone else that she doesn't care what they say and that they aren't allowed to say whatever they're saying because it's "rude" or whatever. xD
She is glued to her phone, 90% of the time, a complete slave to social media and all that entails, such as PC-culture, and Cancel-culture, etc...
And honestly, i don't think Gen Z has the self-awareness or self-insight to accurately judge themselves, because said judgements would be at the mercy of their own values, their VALUES being the source of their problem. xD

I’m just saying this because, due to the culture, politics, and overall perception of the area, LA often hosts the epitome (or amplification) of different types of people.

We have found that new staff in the Gen Z demographic are very different than all our other staff from other generations. They tend to struggle with even the most benign feedback on their performance. They are quicker to make excuses for why they didn't do their job properly than our other staff. They do seem to be idealistic and have good intentions in their own minds, but they are very sensitive when challenged about the practicality or feasibility of an idea. On the other hand, they seem to crave being apart of something bigger than themselves moreso than our other staff, and they are practically giddy upon being hired as if they are going on some incredible journey, whereas other folks from older demographics tend to be more realistic about the job being a job to pay bills. It's almost like GenZ'ers imagine that their job is going to be part of changing the world, when in fact, it likely won't. We are literally having to learn a new style of leadership solely because of Gen Z.
If another staff from a previous generation needs feedback on their job, we simply give it directly like we always have. But for Gen Z, it's almost like having a therapy session with them, with a box of tissues on standby because they almost all get emotional, especially the females. Our mid level supervisors are all millennials and happen to currently be all female, and they come to closed meetings every week to express to us how hard it is to supervise young, female Gen Z staff. They beg us to only hire older staff, but we can't, because for every 1 applicant we get from older generations, we get 10 or more Gen Z applicants.
"I need you to show up to work on time from now on turns into "Here's my life story about how I had good intentions and am a good person despite being late!" We are literally having to teach them how to have a job in a professional environment, how to value punctuality and personal responsibility...and this sucks because we're not in the business of teaching Gen Z'ers how to be professionals, we're in the business of helping our clients. They seem to hold grudges quite firmly if they don't like the feedback they get. That is somewhat scary to us as older administrators, because we see what their generation does when they form a grudge: they try to destroy people's lives on social media and get them canceled. So, we are very careful about the words when supervising Gen Z staff and always have at least 2 administrators (1 male and 1 female) in the room when giving them performance evals so there is always a witness in case they want to imagine they are being picked on. Responsibility seems to be a struggle for Gen Z and that is kinda scary to us.
And before anyone retorts with "Every generation has problems" yeah I'm aware. But, Gen Z is definitely more unique than all previous demographics I've worked with in my 20 years in mental health.

It's tough. Ive been in my industry for over a decade and it is quite apparent in this new job I've attained. Feels like counseling instead of managing, it can be exhausting -specially in an industry so cut throat as hospitality- you need at least thick skin or no fucks given when it comes to the uncomfortable situations you deal with every day.
Coaching requires so much patience and humoring of these "ideals" they abide by. For such an inclusive generation, they are really bad at professionalism and dealing with compromise.

I'm afraid of social interactions now, n this is mostly cus if this pandemic. I haven't been able to access places that offer irl social interaction, and with that means years of working on my ability to interact with others, building a thicker skin, learning how to adapt to different personalities... All basically gone. I kinda have to build from scratch.
I'm just making a resolution to go into volunteering if I can't find a job, so I can get that experience irl... I don't wanna burden any future bosses lmao, cus that means I risk a decent job that can afford my chill lifestyle.

They’re overgrown babies. They see the world through rose tinted lenses, and every little step forward, to them is a major task accomplished towards changing the world, like you said. While this is somewhat endearing, it is far from all. They’re just the most coddled, pampered and sheltered bunch of people out there. Criticism is never constructive, but personal. And discipline isn’t an ideal to live by, but a social construct holding them down. Honestly, as someone from an Asiatic country who recently landed in America, I assure you, 99% of these folks wouldn’t survive a day out in Asia. I’m 21, have had to work until my buttcheeks slathered off, to make it to where I am today. And while I don’t support overwork culture, the merits of hard work and well deserved fruits, are indispensable. This is so prevalent in America, it’s baffling.

@Beelzebub_6th that's a dangerous road to go down. As its true, men have done this for thousands of years (work to death) but women have only done it for about 50. Not saying its the fault of women, but corporations and government saw more potential workers/tax slaves after WWII and advocated for it. Couple that with mandatory schooling that at this point is no more than a daycare past age 14 regurgitating the same viewpoints and shutting down all opposing viewpoints, you've got a recipe for what we see today. No freedom of thought, no individuality, or sense of responsibility that comes with said freedoms.
I am in no way saying we should remove women's rights. Don't get that twisted, as people should be allowed to do as they wish so long as its not hurting others. However, I am saying that the state has sold us lies dressed as freedom/progress when in reality both genders are more miserable than ever. Work isn't fun/fulfilling, its something you do to survive/provide for yourself and family.
People wouldn't have to work as hard if bigdaddy government didn't squeeze every cent out of their earnings.

Most gen z do suck but not all. I felt depressed when I had a stroke at 13 years and with that I lost my sense of taste and feel anything (can't feel nothing). Also no doctor new could help and medication didn't work (even experimental) and after so many test and pills (went on for 3 years missed school work) they gave up and said it's 'Partial seizures' because it's similar to my symptoms but test doesn't show it. I felt so angry and irritated that there is no help and not feeling or tasting anything didn't help so I fell in the loop of depression. After 3 years my taste came back, can feel some stuff (pain and certain temperatures, no texture) but still have Partial seizures and I am happy to have a job that is letting me work from home✌️👽.

Depression is simply feeling sad constantly over and over. For example, feeling stressful or just "sad" can be alleviated when you get good news from someone, and if someone showers you with good news. However, depression causes you to feel immediately sad afterwards and/or not even feel happy at all.

@@redwall1521 I suspect i understand what you mean and i agree to a small extent, but i disagree with your definition, you cannot reduce depression to just a feeling of sadness(even if it repeats constantly). There are so many other symptoms(fatigue and/or lack of motivation and/or emptiness and/or feeling of worthlessness e.t.c.....) that accompany that sadness you describe. Although everyone exhibit depression differently, every depressed person exhibit more than just sadness.

Only thing Gen z has going for it is "inclusivity", other then that we are dumber then a brick. Sentence comprehension is one of the biggest issues in my opinion, gen z's sentence comprehension is awful. We also focus more on the internet then schooling (which ties into the sentence comprehension), and for school we focus more on what makes us look smart then what makes us a productive human being.
