@@117Ender I mean there are various types of poetry through different ethnicities.
Hip hop and slam poetry originated from African American culture.
Sonnets and ballads from European culture.
Haikus and Lushi from Asian culture.
Didactic stems from Latin poets I believe.
So yeah, different cultures do have different types of poems that I’m sure are influenced from the environment around them. Just like music.

Disagree with me...but turning into a characeture of the culture was not the point.
If she down plays her intellegence, it's no better than when white politicians speak down at black people by speaking 'slang' language just to appeal to a cultural subset. Not in favor of being seen as a monolith... and shit like this supposedly represents an entire race lol. Nope. First, its obnoxious and transparent and disingenuous. And second.... speak for your self mama... not everyone needed to reach for a dictionary.
If anything, the viewers got to see the criticism that she got for "stepping out of bounds" of the culturally annointed topic/ and delivery.

*AMEN* This experiment doesn't have to be scrutinized so deeply. It's the EXACT smashing of all psychological and social barriers that this country needs to see. This shouldn't be a "weird" or "cringe" experiment. In fact, this should be done OFTEN. We need to get back to getting over race... back on track to 'colorblindness'. So playing with some "identity" and makeup should be fun - and these families seemed to really enjoy it, and it showed them a ton of things. Isn't this what we want? "How does this show exist" and all the nitpicking of every word ("racism detection") for deeper meanings or problems... was a little disappointing. I mean, Aba & Preach seemed to be having fun doing the reaction... but there was still this underlying scrutiny and nitpicking that was palpable. Didn't have to be. Just my opinion.

I admit I did like the idea of different people learning about different subcultures in America but even then the show felt so cringey. It felt like it was trying to sell awkwardness to reveal racism but ended up just creating cringe. If you guys are going to do more of these episodes be prepared, the cringe gets worse.
Edit: again I’m not saying the show isn’t funny or that the premise of learning about different races through experience (similar to black like me) is bad. HAHAHA, I know. I think the families were honestly well intentioned, but the show itself looks to be very classist, showing whites as sophisticated upper crust, and black people as ill mannered and underprivileged.
I think they should have picked more normal things that both people deal with, like just going to to the store, the salon, different venues, going to school, walking down the street, etc.
This felt very staged, and like the show was based around stereotypes of what we think black people do, and what we think white people do.

I gotta say, the women looked pretty good on both sides, I could see them being mistaken for each other after they swapped, if you don't look to close. Even the black man at the shoe store, he actually looked pretty convincing in a lot of those shots.
but the white guy though, its true, he just looks like a white dude doing black face, or who's been a chimney sweep.
I think he definitely needed a prosthetic or two, because his features are very Caucasian looking, such as the slope of his nose and so on.
Also, at 8:42, Aba hit the nail on the head. This might be a cool idea, BUT having the camera crew there really invalidates the whole thing, because people are a lot more likely to play to the camera, such as the shoe guy, because he's trying to make his business look good.
If you want a more "authentic experience" I think the cameras needed to be hidden/bodycams. so people both families interact with don't know they're on film.

A bad etiquette class at that. A good etiquette class would explain why things are a certain way. Tableware is laid out so you use it from the outside. Salad fork goes outside dinner fork. Spoon outside knife. I'm guessing, but spooning soup with an away motion probably gets less soup on you. Some things (greetings) are just "manners", but play to first impressions and such. Knowing these things wild make a class like that interesting and useful for everyday people.
