The next two songs are fire. 🎉 after this album you are going to see Madonna the true chameleon!! Dont expect any album to sound the same! Like a Prayer album is the one ❤
Hi Keith. I say all this because I value what you do and who you are. It was good to have you back. I was just thinking after your last few Madonna reactions that I was gonna stop watching. Not because you didn't enjoy them, but because when you don't enjoy something, you completely dismiss it, and reduce your reaction to "I didn't like it", which barely qualifies as a basic reaction to me, and isn't interesting to watch. And you're smarter than that. You know about stuff. So it was so great to hear you actually mentioning vocals and instruments in this reaction. I guess I'm maybe looking for a little more objectivity. Of course you will have your feelings about something but that doesn't make the thing bad per se. I want to hear your opinion on the music, the vocals, the song structure, stuff like that. I would add that there is a huge difference in your reactions between when you listen to music and when you watch a music video. I was glad this song didn't have a video because I could get your actual reaction to the song. Which is why I think you also mentioned the music and vocals. Music videos seem to distract you from hearing the actual song, the lyrics, the musicality, and the meaning. For example Live to Tell is objectively sublime musically, lyrically, and vocally. But you were caught up in snippets of unrelated film montage instead of the actual song. I'm beginning to think that's why you've also preferred the majority of her non-single songs so far in her career, and disliked the majority of singles simply because they have videos. You appear to listen better and deeper without the video, and therefore enjoy it more. Just my take. I'll keep watching for now.
I gada disagree with my friend Keith… I think this is a great song and should’ve been the first single released. I think papa don’t preach was chosen to make the statement “look, I’m getting serious now”.

It's kind of a throw away as far as I am concerned. It's not terrible just kind of mediocre.
Still better than “Causing a Commotion”
