Thank you for the great video, Művész cafe is my favourite, it's small, intimate and the staff are very nice, sometimes I even ate two tortas because I couldn't decide. Went to Budapest last week, the New York Cafe is a must, the cakes are fantastic and inside is amazing. I'd also recommend getting lost by the Opera and making your way to Strudel Garden.
Hi, I appreciate the product recommendation. I bought the Etelizesito Csipos sauce and really loved it. Have a nice day. I saw it on the souvenir video
We were in Budapest at the weekend and we ate at the Central Cafe on Sunday evening. We used your videos to research places to visit and to set up Budapest Go. Thanks for all of the help.
We've been to lots of places that have a "New York Cafe". My wife always wants to go, but the past has taught me that the experience is very unsatisfactory. Thanks for the tips; I'm hoping that the Central Grand will do the trick.
Another great video! I unfortunately never had enough time for a nice sit-down cafe experience during my visit. I did make it to the New York cafe but I just walked in, took a picture and walked back out again.
That's probably one of the cheapest ways to sniff in a bit of a New York Cafe vibe and have the required photo for Insta 😅 I hope next time you visit you'll have some time perhaps to enjoy one of these places 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures For sure! I was only there for the day, so there are still MANY things for me to do on my next trip. Oh, and speaking of Insta, you had a really good tip in a previous video about getting an unobstructed photo of St. Stephens Basilica from an alley behind the opera house. That worked out great for me while I was there, so thanks for that! 😃
I love this video! We went to Zsivago to meet friends when visiting Budapest a couple of years ago, and we loved it also. Definitely would love to go back. I’d love to try all of your recommendations.
👍🏻😉 Thanks for another informative Video about your nice City. And yes, of corse, I’m absolutely with you about the New York Cafe. It is mega hyped, but not so good because you can not really enjoy and chill by simply a coffee because it is overran by thousands of tourists. There is too much traffic and it is too loud inside. Stay on with this nice Videos. Maybe we will run to each other when i‘m in Budapest the whole next week 😉
I love Budapest so much and really enjoyed your vibe showing it to us! Got notes of all the caffès, and will definitely try the one's I'm missing next time ! :D
We did new York cafe, we went to the first McDonald's in Budapest and had cake and coffee ☕️ loved it ,cheap and tasty 😋, u don't get that in the UK 😢 ,very professional video keep them coming 😊
Budapest a beautiful city full of lovely Hungarian people. Some awesome cafes in Budapest but my favourite is 'Deryne' in Buda not far from the Fisherman's bastion

If you are on a budget or just want to grab a café on normal, local prices, I would recommend two solutions. 1) Half of the bakeries (Pékség) also sell café. Lipót Pékség, for example sells café for 1 euro, and you can solve the breakfast meanwhile. 2) Café Frei, it is a franchise, there are many location around Bp. Prices between 3-5€. These are nice places to hang out and talk with friends or business partners.
Lipóti is a nice franchise for baked goods indeed :) I personally enjoy Frei, but unfortunately it's sad to see that some of their stores have been declining in recent years.... Luckily the cafe they have on Váci is in good shape :) While I like my coffee simple and black, I think it's really good that they have soooooo many different kinds of coffee experiences, different tastes and recipes, so it's nice for those who like to dive into the many ways coffee can be enjoyed :)
We visited Budapest in December and we absolutely fell in love with this city! I'm an absolute coffee place geek and among some really great cafés, we also went to the New York Café - which was a huge disappointment.😄😵💫 It's true: there are so many better options throughout Budapest, which we discovered during our stay. We definitely need to check out some of your recommendations next time!👍🏻
Glad to hear you had a good experience in Budapest, even if the New York Café didn't meet your expectations. I hope you can return some day and make more nice memories :)
Your videos are super comforting to watch - thank you for these high quality videos. My boyfriend and I visited Budapest for the first time last year and we absolutely loved it (we used many of your suggestions!) and we plan to go back this summer. We will visit these cafes!

Been watching your videos which are giving us lots of information on Budapest. We have our first visit in May & can’t wait to see & eat in your beautiful city 😊 Thank you for being such a helpful guide 😊
Thank you so much for the kind message! Glad to hear you enjoy these videos! May is a really nice time to visit Budapest and I hope you'll have a great time here :)
Sziasztok! Good to see you again in some of my favourite cafés in Budapest 😃 I used to take my visitors from abroad to the Művész, for the cosy atmosphere, the quality of the cakes and the location on Andrássy út right across from the Opera (and to get away from the real tourist hotspots). And the Ruszwurm, is that matter still going on? It would be such a shame if it would have to close (and because of those reasons 😡). For the largest selection of cakes I used to take my visitors to a café in a hotel on the Nagykörút, but I forgot which one (haven't been there in a long time; Zsolnay comes to mind, I don't mean the New York). The longest of glass cabinets I have ever seen, filled with the most delicious cakes! It was very hard choosing! My all time favourite (for personal reasons), though not a real café, was a little family driven kavéház/vendéglő on Németvölgyi út in Farkasrét. Grandma and her daughters ruled the kitchen cooking and baking all the goodies, sons served the tables. Very traditional vendéglő interior with a nice garden terrace roofed with grapevines. After they learned I was Dutch, grandma was fetched from the kitchen and I was greeted like a long lost member of the family. It turned out that grandma had been one of the children on the children trains after WW-I and had spent a few months with a foster family in The Hague to recover after the war. Their gratitude was still overwhelming, even after all that time. Just for me being Dutch ... After that, every time I was in Budapest, I visited them. I don't know all the cafés you visited, so my bucket list of places to go to has grown again! Greetings, thanks and see you next time 😄
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Sadly, the vendéglő is since long gone. The grandmother died early 90’s and the family apparently sold the establishment. I’ve since then lost contact.
At the turn of the century, coffeehouses were places where anyone could walk in, buy a single cup of coffee, and spend hours in a luxurious setting. Many people from poorer backgrounds, like maids, would work all week, then dress in their best clothes and visit a coffeehouse just to experience a taste of high society. In fact, several articles from that time highlighted "this issue," noting that instead of living simple, modest lives, maids were spending their hard-earned money on luxuries like toiletries, well beyond their means, to play a different role on the weekends.
Another great video Akos thank you! I am looking forward to visiting some of these traditional cafes. Do you also do a video with your favourite Specialty coffee houses?
Hey there! Not sure when but eventually we'll try to cover the Specialty Coffee house scene here :) A few of my favorites in the meantime however: Kelet Kávézó, Vivina's Café and Roastery, My Little Melbourne, Fekete, Budapest Baristas, Kontakt, Nanu coffee and stuff, Espresso Embassy, Coffee Stand.... I could go on :D
Excellent video Mr. Stuffed Cabbage ! Very informative, great reviews and Historical content ! I guess one could say that even in Budapest " coffee ain't cheap anymore " 😂
Thank you! Well it's possible to get simple coffee for more acceptable price but without the spectacle... So yeah, Coffee in Cafés comes with an extra cost 😅

Been to Lancelot once 😊 The food wasn't outstanding, but the "gimmick" and the regular live events made it a fun and unique visit. Dzsungel is on my list, heard some positive feedbacks about the place 😀
Drop that glitzy nouveau-riche tourist-trap New York Café. It is below contempt, even its overdecorated interior. Wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. I agree with all the rest of your video. My favourite is Ruszwurm - their krémes is to die for, and their Gerbeaud-szelet (better than Gerbeaud's, believe it or not!) and Eszterházy torta are outstanding.
All of these places are so worthy of your visit. I loved seeing them. Any tea recommendations as we are western tea addicts mostly, coffee only mid morning time?Thank you.
Hey there! Tea drinking culture in Hungary is less prominent but there are a few interesting places, for example I like Sirius Tea house in Budapest, has a large selection of tea and an interesting vibe 😊 I also heard good things about Altair Tea House 😊
Ruszwurm is now on my bucket-list.😊 after visiting Citadella we'll definetly make a short break there! Thank you once again! Wr'll be in Budapest next week! What abıut patisseries? Please make a video about that! Cheers!
I will give the Ruszwurm a try my next trip, hopefully it's open. I have been to Café Gerbeaud before. My dessert and wine was good, however this is the one and only place in Hungary I got some attitude from the staff.
Hey, Budapest has great playgrounds for kids - we enjoyed three. My suggestion for you is to make a video about places for kids in Budapest. Kind regards from Serbia,
Hey there! It is a topic we consider for a future video since a lot of families are coming to Budapest. Although Filming on a kids playground is a bit dodgy, but we'll see what we can figure out :D
Hey there! It is operational yes, couple of people have confirmed it not so long ago via comments on this channel 😊 Unfortunately the situation with them has not been resolved, but a least for now they can still operate, so you can also visit them 😊
We'll have to try a couple of those next time we are in Budapest. We like the quiet and cosy, so probably limiting the options. If anyone does find themselves trying Ruszwurm and it is too busy or closed, try The Walzer Cafe on Táncsics Mihály u. which is nearby on a quiet street. It is small and quirky but very good with very tasty cakes. Ummmmm..... Cake........ (dribbles.)
Hey there! Glad to hear you enjoy our videos! :) unfortunately we don't do tours at this stage, perhaps one day down the road but not anytime soon, but thanks for asking! 😊
Have you ever visited the Matild Cafe & Cabaret? Is it worth visiting? It seems to be located on the touristy street. Might be too expensive? The inside looks beautiful. Thank you!
Hey there! Unfortunately the Matild Cafe & Cabaret is temporarily closed, not sure when it will reopen or if it will ever reopen. I personally have not been there, however it was a very pricey and high-end place. Perhaps they shot for too high and it didn't turn out to be profitable 😔 It's a pitty as the two twin buildings were at the center of Budapest Nightlife in the early 20th century, they have been renovated from time to time but never really got to a final stable state, although this building now has a high-end hotel for many years with a rooftop bar and a restaurant by Wolfgang Puck, but it is still not for the average person's wallet.
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Oh wow, it's closed temporarily. I had a feeling it might be pricey and maybe this is why they closed for now. Thank you for the information.
We’ll be in Budapest this spring. Is it necessary to make reservations for dinner? We were just in Amsterdam & reservations were a must & had a hard time finding places to eat. So I’m nervous about not being able to able to be seated. Love your videos! You’re helping us plan a memorable trip.
Hey there! When it comes to popular places you see trending on the web, I believe it's absolutely recommended to book ahead. But when it comes to the average places that just offer good food but no other spectacle, you should be fine with just walking in :) A lot of places offer online booking now either via their website or via google itself, if you have some restaurants you've set your eyes on already, check out their availability a few days ahead :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thank you so much for the information. We are really excited about visiting Budapest. My great grandma lived there in the 1880's and I have her addresses and we're going to see the buildings! I feel like I'm coming home😊
In general, I'm more fond of the cukrászda vibe -- great confections and coffee, better prices, fewer tourists and more locals. Auguszt, Nándori, Maródi, even Szamos -- though the last is more touristy.
Hey there! It is available in most cafes and confectionary shops 😊 Gerbeaud is associated as the place of origin for the cake, but everyone makes their own versions today 😊
Do you think that a sausage or a hurka with bread and mustard at a butchers is still a Hungarian tradition or is it rather something dying these days? I'm going to Budapest in March and this time the main theme is 'butcher shops' 😆
There are still some Butchers that sell freshly grilled Sausages or ribs etc. But most of those are in the outer districts or the Markets (not the Central one :)). In the center the Belvárosi Disznótoros is a nice middle road between authentic butchers and tourist focused establishments. So it's not difficult to find a place 😊 I personally really like Ica Mama húsbolt at Móricz Zsigmond körtér.
But Budapest can't visit by me that recently my visit is refused from Pakistan I have watched your videos and inspired but Alas there is no visa for me to have fun in Budapest 😢😢😢😢
I really need to stop watching cafe/resturaunt/food videos for Budapest. We have a weekend booked and either will not fit everything in....or end up putting on a large amount of weight by trying everywhere
Hehhe, I can understand it may be a challenge to fit sooo much into a few days 😊 I still hope you'll enjoy your time here and perhaps you'll want to come back again for more. Budapest has so much to offer 😊
It's indeed a nice one, especially as they have a good selection of Szamos products which are ideal souvenirs and gifts for those who like sweet items 😊
I believe the more accurate word would be Inconsistent. I have seen many positive and many negative comments about New York Café, our food and drinks were okay in general... but it's still sad that such a nice place cannot offer a consistently good selection for a fair price :(
@StuffedCabbageAdventures The eggs Benedict I ordered were obviously cooked in advance and nuked prior to being ordered, and they still came cold. My wife's pancakes were the same. McDonald's has better pancakes. This was obviously the norm and not an example of inconsistencies. They have zero concern about repeat business and are 100% reliant on their beauty for visits. I wouldn't even tell people not to go. It is beautiful. Just don't eat there, get coffee, and then eat elsewhere
Gracias... I mean Köszönöm! :D Although my ancestry branches to many different nationalities, interestingly Spanish isn't one of them, at least I am not aware of it :D
I never, ever go to Gerbeaud. Over rated, tourist trap and over prized. When I bought macarons that came out from their freezer, that showed they are not a proper high class café any longer. I’m surpised you didn’t mentioned Számos, which has been the winner of many prices. Ruszwurm, heard they unfortunately are struggling right now, with taxes 😢
Actually I have had good experiences with Gerbeaud recently. They must have learnt their lesson from the bad reviews. Still very pricey. But for atmosphere, it is my favourite. Classier than the otherwise excellent Central.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support! :)

Thank you, glad you liked it :)
I have one more question regarding this video. Is the Ruszwurm confectionary still open? Koszonom! 🙂
Hey there! It is operational yes, couple of people have confirmed it not so long ago via comments on this channel 😊 Unfortunately the situation with them has not been resolved, but a least for now they can still operate, so you can also visit them 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thank you! We still have a while before our visit, so we'll be sure to check their website. Koszonom!
as always very useful information
Thank you! :)
(dribbles.)
Thanks! I have walked passed that Cafe many times but never thought of checking it out. But you convinced me with Cakes :)
I like your videos very much. Do you ever do walking tours with tourists who are visiting the city?😊
The book Café on Lotz ter was also very nice
Thank you!
Nice video. I have a question, is 100E Airport-City Center bus 24/7?
Hey there! Yes, it runs 24x7. Less Frequent during the night, but it runs :)
In general, I'm more fond of the cukrászda vibe -- great confections and coffee, better prices, fewer tourists and more locals. Auguszt, Nándori, Maródi, even Szamos -- though the last is more touristy.
I can absolutely understand why :) Coffee is accompanied better with some nice sweets :)
I had a Gerbeaud ice cream at Anna Cafe and it was better than the one I had at Gergeaud's
Is Gerbeaud Cafe the only place to get Gerbeaud cake?
I suggest you go to Belvárosi Disznótoros - Károlyi utca
There are still some Butchers that sell freshly grilled Sausages or ribs etc. But most of those are in the outer districts or the Markets (not the Central one :)). In the center the Belvárosi Disznótoros is a nice middle road between authentic butchers and tourist focused establishments. So it's not difficult to find a place 😊 I personally really like Ica Mama húsbolt at Móricz Zsigmond körtér.
Many thanks. Outer districts are MY FAVOURITE districts:)
If a TEA is 33 Euro at Central Cafe, how much is a main dish like a Wienerschnizel ?
2 meals, a Coffee and a Tea are 33 euros 😊 by the way, the Wienerschnitzel is about 17 Euro. 😊
Béla café and Auguszt are nice too
Auguszt indeed has a lot of nice confectionary items :) I am not familiar with Béla Café, are you refering to Béla Bácsi Cukrászdája?
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures it s Béla bar étterem , Bartók Béla utca
Oh yes! I love that area, and Béla bar there is really nice indeed :)
Do these places take credit cards?
Yes they do, actually most places in Budapest take cards. Today the Cash only places are the rarity and not the other way around 😊
But Budapest can't visit by me that recently my visit is refused from Pakistan
I have watched your videos and inspired but Alas there is no visa for me to have fun in Budapest 😢😢😢😢
That's sad to hear, I do not know the visa process, but I hope eventually you can apply and you will be successful then!
@StuffedCabbageAdventures we haven't been yet and we are already planning our second visit 🤣
I just learned that my grandmother's "Zserbó" is actually Gerbeaud.
I did not see SZAMOS, one of the BEST in Budapest !
It's indeed a nice one, especially as they have a good selection of Szamos products which are ideal souvenirs and gifts for those who like sweet items 😊
Gerbeaud is so ridiculously pricy that 1st time I visited I thought the waiter is trying to scam me 😂
Yeah, it's one of those places where food was nice, service was nice, but next time I'll go is probably when my numbers come out on the lottery 😅
❤❤😍😍🥰🥰👍👍
Calling the food at the New York cafe average is generous. It was terrible at any price. Free would have been overcharging
Your face looks more Spanish than Hungarian 😅
Szamos is excellent! The good thing with them is you can get a lot of their products elsewhere too not just at the Cafe they have at Vörösmarty 😊
Actually I have had good experiences with Gerbeaud recently. They must have learnt their lesson from the bad reviews. Still very pricey. But for atmosphere, it is my favourite. Classier than the otherwise excellent Central.
Why oh why does your stuffed cabbage character have to have a US baseball cap and on top of that worn back to front..... So Hungarian.
Narrator you are wrong! I don't like your attitude!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the Generous Support! 😊😊😊
