They also did this song during the Buenos Aires 2018 show (with a funny 'Marko' moment when he forgets his lyrics). You may like that one better, as Floor's delivery is a little less operatic. ua-cam.com/video/E1C6oOyyaZg/v-deo.html
'The Kinslayer' is indeed about the Columbine School murders in 1999 in which 15 people died. Some parts of the dialogue you hear in this song were allegedly taken from actual words between students and killers at the shooting. The song ends with lyrics about 15 candles (people killed):
    4 pink ones
    9 blue ones
    2 black ones
[In memory of the Redeemers 20.4.1999]

Yeah, I was going to recommend that Decades version to him. I think it would work better since Floor's interpretation isn't as operatic as Tarja's. And live performances give always so much more feelings than album version anyway, at least with Nightwish.

Marco wasn't in the band at this time. You shouldn't blame Tarja if you don't like the vocal pattern, it's Tuomas who writes the songs and lyrics. Same with Anette and Floor. They are just doing what they are told by Tuomas. For me this one is a good example of album tracks Vs singles. This song in isolation sounds a bit strange but as part of the album it works great. She Is My Sin, Kinslayer and Come Cover Me as the opening 3 songs flow really well musically and the vocals have a nice variety to them across the 3 songs. That is the problem with flipping between albums with bands sometimes. You won't get the flow of the album. That's something that is a bit of a running joke with myself and other musician friends of mine, that we spend lots of the carefully working out the track order for our albums so that it flows well musically and takes the listener on a journey across the whole album, then people just listen to 1 track or a mixed up playlist on Spotify anyway 😄. It's a shame but is how music is consumed these days. 'The Album' is dying as a format unfortunately.

This song has always made me uncomfortable, which is, I believe, the point. The LIVE videos with Tarja and Floor push the lyrics, when you realize they were quotes of the killers. The candles being extinguished one at a time, each one accounting for the life ending of a student. I think this song is brilliant.

I'm surprised that you haven't heard this one yet😄
But I gotta say, the live versions with Tarja and Floor are better ones. Though I am very happy that you did this album version too. But I think the live versions bring much more emotions and pain to the song. For me, especially the live version from the End of an Era. I can't really explain why, but Tarja's facial expressions on that one are just something else...
I think you need to hear the live versions to get another perspective. The way they deliver the lines stays almost the same but the emotions (at least for me) bring something more to it.
But I still understand why you don't like this song and that's fine. You can't like everything 🤷‍♀️
This ain't my favourite song either....

This song is indeed about the Columbine High School massacre. The spoken words in the middle are actually parts of the documented conversations between the killers and the victims.
Not my favorite song of NW, either.
