    This film spoke to me as a teenager then, and to my whole generation.

    Nicholson is one of the TOP FIVE ACTORS EVER. Ironic, this Movie Five Easy Pieces was one of his Top Five Performances. 🏆 He should have received the Academy Award for this performance.

    So much emphasis on words and meaning. I miss these movies. No cheap lines, no short cuts, just subtleties and directness when needed. Beautifully crafted.

    The blonde actress here is Susan Anspach whom Jack dated briefly after they filmed Five Easy Pieces. They had a son Caleb born in 1970.

    I knew that was Karen Black!
    I only saw her once before - in the 3rd part of "Trilogy of Terror".

    I remember reading that the lady pontificating is based on Ayn Rand.

      At least Rand knew how to hold a cigarette (not that it did her any good).

    I really want to see Leonardo DeCaprio portray Jack Nicholson in a bio before he passes away.

    I can't stand those pretentious nihilistic kind of people, they think that they're profound because of their grim outlook on life, Bobby's not exactly anyone you should relate to but I do understand his frustration in this scene, these faux-intellectuals are insufferable.

      Is there a TV in the house?

    • @fanatamon
      @fanatamon 3 місяці тому +1

      The grim outlook on life is not entirely incorrect but combined with the nihilism and narcissism the persona becomes non grata at high speed. And yes in the end insufferable.

      The woman endlessly pontificating might have some good ideas, but she was so dismissive and rude in this scene it hardly matters. The actress did a good job though. I wanted to smack her.

    1:29 the snowflake has been triggered. In her mind, "Cold, objective discussions" are deemed "Aggression". How very woke of her!

      I feel bad for you. You took nothing else from this great scene but an excuse to make the most tired joke in the world.

      @@MattersUnrelated i think it was really admirable of her to call out the behavior the way she did. she showed a lot of strength the way she handled it with emotional intelligence, pointing out that what the lady was pretending was purely objective, was actually antagonistic and based on her own emotions of that antagonism/grief towards life, also her behavior not taking the time to listen to anyone's responses or truly consider them. it was aggressive in that sense, and not in fact, a cold/objective discussion. she was set in her own concepts, and intent only on convincing everyone else of them, but not for their benefit or in good spirits. a subtly (and not so subtly) aggressive tone indeed.
