I was getting distracted while I was trying to count, because an older gentleman was complaining. I politely asked him to wait until I finished, and I would be happy to listen afterwards. He continued to complain, so I turned around and Sparta kicked the door. I had to cool off. I talked to leads, mgmt etc. I clocked out for lunch. I admitted that I had not handled that well, and would try better to identify triggers. I am AD/HD, slightly autistic, so focusing is already difficult.

Ps he retires this month, and he wants me to take over his duties. Because
I am one of the few strong enough to do it. I cut watermelon, and he does juice, so the only difference is that I have to lift 25-30 lbs over my head. Most of the melons I work with are 20-30lbs each

I have zero sympathy for any restaurant losing inventory because their employees steal it. They underpay workers all the time, and expect them to work through mealtimes, but are all surprised when they eat a fry. Good on that dude for eating all the wings.

My former boss owes me like almost 40 hour of break time.
And then the wonder why there is always a worker shortage in the food industry.

Hah in the 90's I worked closing shift at a Subway restaurant. The max they'd schedule you was 34 hours, so they didn't have to offer vacation or benefits. So I collected my own benefits in the form of filling up empty soda bottles from the fountain, absconding with entire cambros full of chicken breasts, baking an entire oven full of cookies and taking the lot of them. As the primary closer I knew exactly what was and was not inventoried, and I also knew a few ways to trick the system into offsetting inventory for sandwiches. At the time we sold round sandwiches, and a veggie round was 79 cents, same price as a small drink. Bread was inventoried, drinks were not. So any time someone ordered a small drink I'd ring it in as a veggie round. Same price for them, but it allowed me to make 1 full sandwich and take it for myself. (Oh and to give you an idea how good a deal that was, every full loaf was 1, and every six-inch was 0.5. So a round sandwich, despite being the smallest thing on the menu, was inventoried as the largest. So after offsetting the count by 1, I could take home an entire footlong of my choice.) I aggressively suggestively sold small drinks lol.
Those were some good days. Show up to work, bike home with a shitload of food, call over my friends and have a little party at 2am. Go to bed, get up at noon, repeat the same routine the next day.

The 15 items or less lane employees need to say something. So many times I’ll have like 5 items and I’m behind other customers that have like 300 items…

7:24 oooo people who have money for their death sticks but complain about not having enough money for other stuff makes me so mad. Right up there with people who buy their groceries with an EBT card then ask you for cigarettes that’s they buy with cash or debit… like, if you’ve got disposable income for narcotics, you don’t need the tax dollars that would be better spent with actually destitute people.

Not.. condoning it, but breaking a smoking habit is insanely difficult. Like... nearly on par with a heroine addiction. While the withdrawals for heroine are definitely worse, a nicotine addiction has so many different layers (social, habitual, and chemical) that the brain really fights breaking it. Add on to that the fact that it's one of the few addictions that are socially acceptable, and you've got one hell of vicious cycle. I say that as someone who watched my step mom fight that addiction for my entire life. She's still not off them. Most stubborn woman in the world, and cigarettes have her in a choke hold. It's really sad, because we both know that this will eventually kill her. She isn't on EBT or anything like that and, honestly, going broke would probably be a big enough catalyst for her to finally go off of them, but for now it is what it is.
