  • In this video, we will share information about mail coming your way, how you can save anywhere from $25-400 this school year, and about our back-to-school events. This video, start to finish, will last about four minutes and will be available in English and Spanish.
We want to inform you that mail is coming your way. In the next few days, you will receive a form, which we ask that you return to us on or before your child’s Tiger Take Off Event in August.
Although the form is called an “Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals,” it covers much more than a meal. Even if you know that you don’t qualify or you’re just hesitant to provide sensitive information like income on this form, completing this provides tremendous benefits to our students:
Here’s how having 100% completion of these forms helps your child and their classmates
families receive a 50% discount on beginning of year technology fees. Even if you don’t qualify for free meals, you save $25-$40 on school fees from the start.
Of course, it allows families who qualify the ability for their child to receive school lunches for free or at a reduced cost. This is a potential savings of $66- $415 / school year.
It allows the district to provide more to our students. By having accurate information about the financial status of our student families we have access to more state and federal programs that benefit our kids every - for example, the ACE program, part of how we qualified for this program was information gathered from the form we asking you to complete.
Can adjust our "comparison" groups for school accountability, this is the state’s A, B, C, D, & F rating system and this means our school will be compared to schools that serve kids like our kids)
Allows us to provide continued family support throughout the year with wraparound services - which are services and support beyond the classroom
We have some families that stop filling out the form when their students get to high school, but keep in mind
It may also help reduce the registration fees for AP, SAT, and ACT tests
It may also help provide discounts for college application fees - which can add up quickly
It can also help provide additional funding to help these students too.
So let’s look at the form, it should only take a few minutes to complete.
Step one is where you list all of the children who live in your home - not just school-aged children.
Step two: if any household members, including yourself already participate in SNAP, or other federal or state programs then you simply need to enter your EDG number and your done!
If you answer no on step 2, please move to step 3 Here you will enter the last 4 digits of an adult household member’s SSN and then list the names of all adults living in your house, their work earnings, and how often they get paid. Even if an adult does not receive income, but lives in your house, please list them in this section.
TIP: The total number of children in section 1 and the total number of adults in section 3 should be the total you enter in section “D”
Last, just write your address, your name, your signature and today’s date.
We do ask that you complete this form in pen - if you make a mistake, don’t worry, we will have plenty of extras in the office. Last, but certainly not least, is to turn the form into us. Please bring the form with you to your child’s campus Tiger Take Off Event! This is a new event we are having around the district this year and will kickoff with a parent & student meeting to discuss plans for the 24-25 school year. Next, you will have an opportunity to check in with the nurse, get assistance with online registration, pay technology fees, meet your teachers, and junior high and high school students will pick up their class schedules.
If you have any questions about the forms, please contact Kellye Warren. If you haven’t met her yet, she’s our new secretary at the administration office by emailing kwarren@snyderisd.net or calling 325-574-8900.
