Essentially this Monkey is morphing into a Grom with all the modern looking upgrades.I get the need to make some minor upgrades but part of the uniqueness of the Monkey bike design is the 'nostalgia' with the look of a older classic bike. It is like taking a classic car and then adding all new everything to what was already a classic. My uncle buys classic cars and the most coveted and valuable cars are the ones who are completely stock. No criticism at all because everyone has their own tastes and desires. Just noticed that this classic Monkey is turning into a Grom peice by peice. Keep up the good work with the videos.
I loved the look of the Monkey in its stock form, but also love tinkering. Not all the things I add will stay, but are more or less fun to try and help me build this channel. Also, my hidden secret is that I’m preserving all of the stock pieces and keeping them brand new for the day I end up reinstalling them 😉
@@John5XR Excellent. Smart to have that option. Keep up the good work on your channel. I have to admit it is addictive to keep tinkering with the Monkey and your videos are great. I just ordered a 2020 BLUE Monkey. I will probably make a couple minor changes based on your video while keeping the classic feel of the Monkey. All the best!
But if it's newly manufactured parts that are made to look retro, is it really retro? It's a matter of opinion like you say, but to me I just can't get into a retro feel when the parts are new. Just never got it. Now, if you have an original CT or Trail 90 with original parts, now we're talking retro and of some value!
Appreciate the feedback, that’s what I’m looking for. They don’t go with the retro-styling so much, but it’s cool to see how things look. You never know! Did you like the MNNTHBX front side markers in my other video?
@@John5XR yeah that was in the same vein. The content is fine but look maybe 75% of the monkey is interchangeable with the grom. I have larger grom pegs on mine etc. But for me the reason for the monkey was the retro look, so the gold wheels, etc. 👌Keep up the good work. I found a lot of vendors I didn't know were out there from your content. I even bought the RS3 spark arrestor based on your recommendation and love it. 👍
just the camera not able to focus right, I'm not that good at the settings to figure out how to replicate the actual brightness. I had a replacement turn signal relay in the bike already that accounts for the LED's, so I didn't need the piece from Yoshimura
You going to get that DynoJet V3 ? ... I just have the Yoshi RS3 full race and Ohlins on mine. After the exhaust install I lost top end. Going for that same intake you got in blue to accent the banana yellow. Just wanting to know if a tune with that DynoJet would really make a difference.
I have the Bazzaz Z-FI fuel controller, which I like better than the Power Commander (which I have on my Grom). When you get an intake + exhaust, you’ll want to add more fuel. Easiest way is to have the ecu reprogrammed, or get a fuel controller if you plan more mods later.
forgive my ignorance but in California would those be street legal? dont count as integrated right and great content ESPECIALLY since bolt screws to lift the seat on the fly..
I installed these lights on my Monkey. They look awesome but since they are LED and not incandescent the Monkey thinks there is a problem and causes them to blink too rapidly like a fuse is blown or something. Does anyone know how I can get the pace of the blinking back to normal?
I actually like the Grom for off-roading better. It’s a bit higher in the seat, has a rear mono-shock, and is closer in design to a dirt bike than the Monkey. Throw some Pro-Taper KLX110 handlebars on it and it’s amazing to ride on dirt! The Monkey is also fun off road, but is quite a bit lower in the seat position and the rear shocks are way too weak to handle too much heavy off-roading. Have you watched my Shinko Mobber tire ride review video with the Grom? I shred some pretty gnarly stuff in it!
John5XR that makes total sense. I did watch the Shinko video, it was great. So I think a fair assessment would be to consider the monkey more of a dual sport bike? Just picking mine up today, plan to do more street but possibly some gravel roads-thinking this is the best option
The Monkey should do trails and gravel just fine, just maybe not with the finesse the of them Grom. I dirt ride the Monkey and it handles well, just can’t “throw it around” as much, if that’s what you’re doing (like me)
They’re a perfect amount of brightness actually! Nice and smooth light output, not eye-hurting in any way. The sequential order of in to out is very cool but too

That’s awesome! I love the blue, and there’s quite a bit of tasteful mods that keep the vintage look. Enjoy!

It's like a resto-mod. Which I personally really like.
Great edit John! Don't forget all the items are sold separately!
Thanks! Didn't have that in the video, but it's in the description with links.
Fantastic video! Clear, in-depth, and straight to the point. You've convinced me to get these signals for my Vitpilen 401. Thanks!
Great feedback, thank you!
Great install 👍🏼
I like these , they’re impressive .
Nice job! They appear to be pretty bright.
John, mine brought a module. Where do you install the module, no instructions
does it have the daytime running light feature? do the turn signals stay on with the rest of the lights and flash only when signalling?
I actually really enjoy your videos. I’m learning a lot just by watching you sooo thxxxx :)
Thanks Lindsey, me too! 😉
Where you grab the 3d printed light mount plate at ???
Hi ordered these lights but didn't receive the 3D-printed part would like to print it myself but don't have the file where can I find it?
what brand of handlebars do you have on your bike? I just a 2023 monkey and want to get wider bars for it...
Did you need to add a flasher relay for these?
Great!
Is the rear light install exactly the same?
not sure but yeah if I wanted a grom, i'd have bought the grom. While the turn signals are nice they're not in keeping with the retro look.

Do these also work with the rear taillight?
These dont work without a battery? Lets say on a ATV?
Any one know if there is any difficulty to install these on Yamaha Xmax
Súper 👍👍gracias por los subtítulos en español 🙏
Any reason why you didn’t get something like TST’s Running Mate to make them daytime running lights as well?
I am not aware of that product, so I guess I never knew 🤷🏼♂️
@@John5XR Have a look. It will allow them to stay on at 80% brightness as running lights as well as being turn signals.
Looking great man!
Thanks!!
They blink so bright it's hard to see the sequential pattern. And what happened with the wiring harness piece that was in the bag? Did you use it?

They look like they bent a bit. How much give do they have, and are they meant to be able to survive a drop?
They bend a fair amount, WAY more flexible than the OEM lights, so I’m confident they’d be perfectly fine in a fall.
Them shitz are clean!
Thanks 👍🏻 i want em
Keep up the good videos!
Huh, the Yoshimura website says unless you have LED turn signals that you need a flasher relay but it looks like you didn't? Strange!
I had the flasher relay already from the previous turn signals
forgive my ignorance but in California would those be street legal? dont count as integrated right and great content ESPECIALLY since bolt screws to lift the seat on the fly..
Not ignorant at all, cause I don’t know either! Unless they have different rules, I would think they’re fine in all 50-states.

Easy, gotta swap in a turn signal flasher relay. I cover this in a separate video
Can you put it in the back too or only front?
For off-road riding, do you prefer the monkey or the grom? Also do you think one bike is safer to ride than the other for a beginner?

are you still dealing with the headlight separation issue?
Yeah, haven’t focused on how to fix it yet.
I got these for my grom but they wont blink
Did you get a flasher relay?
@@John5XR i did not. Well i thought i did but it doesnt fit anywhere
You’ll replace the OEM one. I have a video on it too, probably right after this one chronologically
