    THERE ARE NO WORDS THAT ANYONE CAN SAY THAT MAKES THIS OK & THEN TO CHARGE THESE POOR FAMILIES FOR A DEATH CERTIFICATE, THE LEAST THEY COULD DO WOULD BE TO HAVE GIVEN THEM WITHOUT QUESTION.

    Im so very sorry for the families of these victims. I have experienced the Mississippi legal system first hand. In my opinion it is one of the most corrupt in this country. Bigotry is rampant there. Completely unacceptable. Bring in the Feds. No one deserves this type of treatment. I pray that you all find peace and recieve the justice that you all deserve. I hope that I NEVER enter the not so great state of Mississippi again.

      The mother reported one of the sons missing and called them multiple time asking for news after they identified him and they didn’t tell her and they also had his fingers print on file from prior trouble with the law they reportedly a police detective left a card in a door of a relative but the relative never saw the card

      There are over 200 bodies buried there, so there's a lot we don't yet know.
      But Jackson police knew these people were dead, knew who they were, knew how to contact the families, & STILL refused to do the minimum & contact the families. These families thought for years their loved one was 'missing'. The one mother contacted Jackson police repeatedly to find out about her missing son & get updates on his case/investigation. Jackson police never told her the truth: that their own cops killed him when they hit him with their police car. And he was dumped like trash, with a number on his grave, while his mother was out searching for him day & night.
      The individuals weren't even properly buried. Their bodies were in body bags, dumped in shallow graves & covered over, with a number on a pipe to mark their grave. Buzzards circled overhead because the smell of decaying bodies was so overwhelming.

    • @marshcreek4355
      @marshcreek4355 8 місяців тому +1

      I wouldn't trust them either and I live in Georgia. The South's soil is soaked with the blood of racial injustice and violence that has not been redeemed and it still carries the ghosts of those 'sins'. But I'm also torn. One reason these now Republican and old Confederacy states are gerrymandering so hard and working overtime to disenfranchise African-Americans of their voting power is fear. Its an old play book that now has the backing of even the U.S. Supreme Court. They know that with fair voting maps they are done. Some folks like NYT columnist Charles Blow are calling for a reverse black migration to change the demographic dimensions of the old south. A pipe dream really as he's calling for a movement without impetus. Howevrr, I get his point. The South will change when people of color start voting dynamically in tune with their population numbers. Too many still won't register to vote or if registered won't turn out to vote.

      For months, Bettersten Wade called the police in Jackson, Miss., desperate for any update or sign that detectives were making progress in tracking down Dexter, her 37-year-old son who left their home one day in March and vanished.
      Each conversation ended in frustration. They never seemed any closer to finding him, she said.
      And yet, records show that investigators for the Jackson Police Department knew exactly where Dexter Wade was. An off-duty police officer driving an S.U.V. had struck and killed him on the same day that his mother last saw him, according to officials and coroner’s records. A deputy coroner said he was identified by a bottle of prescription medication he was carrying and through fingerprints.
      Ms. Wade kept searching for more than five months, unaware that her son had been buried behind the local jail, in a ragged cemetery for the poor and unclaimed where graves are marked by small, numbered signs poking out of the dirt.
      “All that time, they knew where he’s at,” Ms. Wade said of the Jackson police in a recent interview. “They knew who he was.”
      Officials in Jackson, a city of 150,000, have described Mr. Wade’s burial and the long delay in informing his mother of his death as regrettable but honest mistakes, a matter of miscommunication within an overburdened police department.
      But Ms. Wade was not inclined to give the police the benefit of the doubt. Four years ago, three officers had been charged with murder after they pulled her brother from his car and slammed him to the ground.
      Ms. Wade wanted her son removed from the unmarked pauper’s grave. She wanted to be there when it happened, praying over his remains as they were raised from the dirt. And she wanted answers - from an independent autopsy and, she hoped, an investigation into her son’s death and how it was handled by the police.
      “You can’t write it off as a mistake, you can’t write it off as a miscommunication,” Ms. Wade said. “I don’t exactly know why they did it. That’s what I want to find out.”
