Destiny - Expedition Cinematic (Director's Cut)

- In an internal alpha build of D1 there was an extended version of the Astronaut cutscene.
I assume most of you haven't seen this version so I wanted to share!
I also decided to make a mix of "Law of the Jungle" & "The Path" that would fit the new extended cinematic since this cut didn't have audio. (the D1 logo at the end wasn't in the alpha cutscene and was spliced in by me here)
I have a discord server. If you like Destiny's music or audio this server might be worth checking out. :)

I never understood why they removed the scene with the rain falling onto the different "nauts" helmets. Such a beautiful first depiction of the travelers power.
It doesn’t sync up as well with the music, is a bit too much all at once, yet .
The final version is a lot better paced with the reveal of a giant mysterious and otherworldly sphere on mars before a hard cut to the word “Destiny” as the music swells
After looking back and comparing the two, I do agree with your analysis. It's still a shame though that such an artistically well made scene didnt make the cut. Alas, that's most of destiny's development history.
Also, been watching you for many years, and I just want to say, good job on your videos bro, keep it up.
@@LateNightHalo, more like latenightdestiny, hah hah.. hah..
my head cannon is that these three astronaughts are ressurected as the three guardians we see in all the trailers
Love the thought of them being the live action guardians, but they are actually referenced in game via the season 3 (warmind) universal ornaments as being called Hardy, Mihaylova and Qiaos 😮
@@deepdarkdtaylThat doesn’t contradict the possibility!
That reminds me that the Guardians from Destiny 1 cover are a fireteam mentioned in all the weapons of Osiris, they have a quite interesting history, even one of them died canonically, being the titan at the initial cinematic of season of the depths
The harmony at 0:51 is so fucking nostalgic for me!
I started playing D1 back in House of Wolves and this cutscene has been one of my favorite since then. The music, the scenes, and what it means to me as someone who has cared for this series for almost a decade now. They all make it just perfect.
They may have got a few things wrong here and there over the years but the music and sound of Destiny has always been top tier.
This cutscene had 15-year old me hooked from the very start. I really, really hope Final Shape does this story justice.
2:16 those faint drums that play are also heard before the witness opens the portal in the traveller
Glad you caught that! :)
The astronaut POV with the detailed rain is beautiful and I don’t know why that was cut. The cherry on top would’ve been a sapling emerge. It would sell the Traveler instantly as a being of mystery BUT ALSO immense power. Those three must be thinking “Plants and weather on Mars? How?” And the players would be thinking the same thing. A perfect introduction.
Yeah and after showing the sapling on the ground with detailed zoom where the water hits, change the camera angle back into the traveler and the whole alley around him turning green.
i really hope final shape is good man

Ok but seriously this cutscene genuinely hits me so hard every time. I'm reminded without fail that I love this game for a reason.
This always makes me tear up, especially when the middle astronaut opens his arms and embraces the rain. So beautiful, I’m so happy I got to experience this game with all of you ❤️
Sometimes i dont know if its the nostalgia taking but sometimes i wish something in Destiny 2 had the same feel as this.
I completely agree, the vibe of vanilla Destiny is incredibly unique
I think it’s because at first Destiny was very much a space opera- very lore driven. Destiny 2 put that in the backseat and now it feels like kill thing for gun

D1 had that feeling of wonder and exploration, something I wish d2 had.
@@Lancersilva We're already familiar with the world at large, so that's impossible
12 year old me was so excited to get the limited edition of the game, pop the disk in, and watch this. It’s surreal how long it’s been since then. It’s even more surreal that it’s almost been 10 years.
I cant believe they did the composers of this masterpiece so dirty. The cinematic is great, but the music is what elevates it to such heights. Bungie will never capture this kind of atmosphere ever again. Let that sink in.
@breshi, love these motifs so much. Any chance you could point out some other tracks in which this theme appears?
i mean... the moment i saw this cutscene, so many years ago, i got hooked. Bungie knows how to create the feeling of wonder with these scenes, they're masters of crafting it, and lore and ambients, but my God, the couldn't write a decent dialogue even if their life depend on it
Man, feels like a Mandela effect moment cause now I could've sworn that back in D1 the intro cinematic also included the rain falling on the astronauts. Maybe I'm just crazy. 😵💫
I'm with you there. I remember watching the trailer and seeing it when first booting up this game as a kid.
Different cuts of this cutscene were used in different things. The "full" director's cut has been online since 2014. What Breshi specifically did was make a custom music mix that's synced up to it, as the existing version of The Traveler wouldn't line up with this.
Could have been the demo/beta for D1? Since I know some things in there changed for the open beta compared to the full release. I think they also changed the length of the opening depending when you started, since I began right before Taken King launched.
This game needs a prequel that takes place right after the golden age and arrival of the traveler. The most bare bones Destiny you can imagine. I would play Destiny again.
This is so beautiful and hopeful.
beautiful
huh. That's pretty dope
The "pling plong pling" not lining up with the alternate universes(?) is the only thing about this that isn't perfect. Otherwise it's awesome!
cool
Can you upload the music mix you made for the cinematic?
Nvm lol
@@aksis7187No this a custom mix that's different from The Traveler. It uses different parts of The Path than The Traveler does.
