    On a side note, I get a lot of messages from people asking about how I can afford to buy all these headphones and have time to make all these videos so I wanted to share the answer here. It basically is the result of learning how to effectively do drop shipping (basically buying and selling products for a profit) and setting up your own online ecommerce store. I stumbled and fumbled around with this process for a quite a while before finally becoming successful as a result of finally having a simple to follow course. I wrote a review about the course I used if you're interested: reviewsbylance.com/dropship-li...
    And then I also wrote a review about the wholesale directory I use to find all these great wholesale suppliers: reviewsbylance.com/wholesale-s...
    Or you can watch the Salehoo review I did to get a behind the scenes look • Video
    Then if you have additional questions you can just post those in the comment section and I'll be happy to answer any questions I can. Hope that helps :)

      Same exact thought I had in the first few seconds. I even felt my opinion of AT headphones get unconsciously biased in a negative direction initially. I had to consciously think "no, this is just the video audio, it has nothing to do with the headphones the video is about". I think that these are thoughts most people have without knowing they have them. Otherwise they're just as stupid as me. I may be stupid, but I'm perceptive.

    • @Case_
      @Case_ 4 роки тому +12

      It's not "just the video audio", though, is it? It basically tells you the person making the review doesn't really care about good sound. So your opinion should absolutely be biased based on that. (And sure enough, this review mentions the actual sound almost like an afterthought and spends more time on cable lengths and earcup pivot...)
      And it's also surprisingly common when it comes to audio related reviews on YT.

    Some remarks:
    The frequency response numbers provided by the manufacturer are marketing numbers. They are meaningless other than suggesting that the more expensive models (with wider FR range) are supposed to sound better.
    Impedance does not tell you how much power you need - that's what sensitivity is for.
    Impedance tells you the nominal ratio between voltage and current.
    There are potentially just these problems:
    1) very high impedance and low sensitivity means you need high voltage.
    Portable players can output quite a lot of power, but are usally limited to low voltages (~1V).
    2) low impedance and high sensitivity means the headphones will pick up any noise from the source .. this can result in audible hiss.
    3) low impedance in general means that there will be stronger interaction between amp and headphones.
    As we know, the impedance of a headphone is not flat. In a dynamic headphone there is usually an impedance peak around 100 Hz. If your amp has high output impedance then this will effectively cause a bass boost.

You're just ahead of the pack when it comes to reviewing cans! Anyway, just wanted to say I got both the M30X & M40X and I'm happy to report they're both phenomenal pairs of cans for the price. Super comfortable & great sounding, though the M40X are just more neutral and have a slight better sound overall. Totally worth the extra bucks!. Congratulations again Lance and please keep those wonderful reviews coming!!

    After years with the m40x I got the m50x. The difference in very low bass is more than a couple db. Its actually quite stark both in sound and especially feel. The larger driver, housing design and sensitivity account for that. Its also louder at the same volume setting.
    Both sound great, I use them interchangeably for music and video and enjoy both.
    Hard pressed I'd take the 50x since I don't need the flatter sound.

    Holy cows man, not only you went over every single difference, you just made a buying guide of the series. I was actually surprised you ended with a step-up comparison of all of them, like the rest of the video wasn't enough. In my case I found this video because I wanted to know the difference between the 40 and the 50. I'm kind of a basshead but now that I'll step up to the 100 and plus mark, I kinda want to see the difference when you get quality headphones of the neutral kind (Previous ones were Sony MDR V55 for 50 euros). Also the 50x cost 40 euros more :P
    But seriously, kudos.

    I bought a set of M20X. terrific product. I'm especially appreciating the long cable which I plug into my guitar amp which also integrates my phone audio via aux cable. The headphones accommodate both simultaneously with ease.
    Living in close proximity with housemates I can still get that "cranked to 11" guitar sound without getting murdered from my housemates ( conservative, highly private Chinese...god bless em).
    Very very happy with my purchase, great value for money.. I wanna buy a second set as a backup I love them that much.

    The M40's sound EXCELLENT for Metal. The guitars sound so clear. Ive heard little guitar fills for he first time in songs Ive listened to for 25yrs. BUT, the bass is also excellent..Very loud, and very clear. Ive never heard the M50s, might buy a pair and try them, but the M40s sound awesome, and I think they are excellent for metal/hard rock. I'm very happy with them.

      I don't think the m50x will be good for rock. Mids are slightly recessed on them, and that's where rock sounds really good.

    • @yesto9676
      @yesto9676 8 років тому

      +josh Subet seems like you might not be an expert on metal. guitarists use 3 band eq usually. rock is 4/5/6 (b/m/t) and metal is closer to 5/2/5.

      @totinospizzarolls4737 8 років тому +5

      Yesto
      I'm not, but generally, vocals and instruments fall under the mid range. The m50xs have a recessed lower mid range (300hz - 700hz) by about 7db when compared to bass. it may make vocals feel distant and without power, along with guitars too. Its like listening to dubstep with the hd 598s, it isn't good.

What a great set of headphones, the sound is just amazing. There's a big difference in sound quality from the m20x. I listen mostly to grunge and classical music and I was blown away. I cannot vouch for other genres, but I'm sure it's also awesome. By the way, I'm not saying the 20s are bad, because they are actually OK. But the 40s are in another league. @@devm.9189 Hi, it's still my daily driver. It's as good as the day I bought it. After a few years using it, I got very used to the pureness of this model. Whenever I try other headphones from friends or family, I immediately notice exaggerated bass. That's why this one is so good for classical music. I purchased the M30X last month based on this review, and I gotta say, what you said in this video about it is spot on. The mids are really detailed, the bass is punchy yet doesn't overwhelm other frequencies at all, the sound stage and separation is decent. I've always preferred and used IEMs before this because of the portability, but right now I'm not even thinking of going back. Audio Technica has done a magnificent job with the M30X for the price.
    Quick question though, I'm planning to upgrade to M50X next year. In your opinion, is the $100 difference worth it? Does it have more clarity and detail than the M30X aside from the enhanced low frequencies and reduced treble? I'm still curious about why it's priced more than twice as high as the M30X.
    Looking forward to your new reviews!

    First off, your reviews are really thorough, and it's much appreciated. I can't afford decent monitors for recording guitar, so I wanted to know - as a newbie - if the M20X's will make much difference when recording and mastering guitar tracks. I'm mostly doing clean post rock or ambient guitar with effects, straight from the amp to a Focusrite interface & Macbook. Maybe some overdrive/distortion at times. I was aiming for the M30X's if they're worth the difference at an extra $20. What do you think? Should I go for the M20X if I'm new to recording and monitoring the audio?

    It's been just over a year that I've bought this limited edition blue headphones. Only I have used these and that too ultra delicately. I can't afford one anytime soon. I need to know if someone shares the same problem I've experienced with these. My problem isn't with the audio drivers. It's with the pleather (leather like material but not leather) parts on the headphone. The brown pleather parts found on the headphone gradually forms crease lines, cracks & finally peels off in small bits. I guess it's just a matter of time for all of it to powder away. At first it was seen on the right ear pad, then on the inner part of the headband. The headband part get's worse. Links to Images. Guys beware because I emailed the company and have found no response whatsoever. AT's associate in India have promised me ear pad replacements. But they say they can't do anything about the headbands and that I should glue it. And just how does that work?!!! Now I wonder, Is this why I bought the limited edition for? If anyone can help, it will be on time and I'd truly appreciate it.

    I've never had headphones over about $10, and I recently listened to some Beats Studio's at Walmart (I know everyone thinks they're crap) but it was quite an awakening to hear them compared to my Big Lots brand headphones lol. I didn't realize how much sound I had been missing out on. I typically listen to rock music ranging from Pink Floyd up to Tool...so I'm hoping these M40x's I just ordered will be worth the money and blow my Big Lots headphones out of the water...otherwise I'm going to be kicking myself that I just spent $100 on a pair of headphones lol.
