  • Episode Eight of STAYAWAKE is here!! (Headphones are recommended but not required - may need to monitor volume while viewing)
    As mentioned in the recent channel update - I have been slightly busier with school these past couple weeks and so I have had slightly less time to focus on this episode. This episode was actually originally intended to be a 10 minute long micro episode, however it seems to have spiralled into something much more than that. I decided to take this episode in a similar direction to the James Holmes case (Part 2&3) due to many requests for similar episodes to those in the series. I do apologize for the poor quality of the interrogation footage, this footage is actually a video of a video - I did my absolute best to clean up the audio as much as possible however the volume levels were all over the place and very hard to normalize well (my audio editing skills are not very advanced). Please bear with me as a grow and improve - I will definitely remaster and rerelease this episode as my skills advance and I have more time available!
    After being incarcerated Michael Swanson was also charged with another attempted murder of a fellow inmate: www.messengernews.net/news/lo...
    The years he received for this post conviction charge are included in his 2089 minimum release date.
    CORRECTIONS:
    It seems I must have glazed over this, but as I listed the items provided by the officers, I failed to notice that Michael was actually provided a lighter for his cigarettes as opposed to the book of matches requested/listed. Also! I have read speculation that you can hear the officers stating they had to purchase his meal from the Kum&Go gas station food bar as opposed to the requested McChicken and fries from McDonalds. If this is the case, Michael would have still received - A pack of Newport cigarettes, a lighter, a bottle of pop, a sandwich, and french fries.
    The other correction that seems to be somewhat convoluted upon research is his initial starting location. I have read multiple documents stating his family home was in Lewis Park, MN - However I have also read a handful of articles stating St. Louis Park, MN. These locations are approximately 12 minutes apart from each other so there isn't a huge difference in travel time etc but I figured I would still mention this possible mistake!
    PLEASE NOTE:
    The information surrounding this case is very convoluted and seems to change more and more as I continue to comb through articles and transcripts. There is even multiple documentary crime shows that I watched on Michael that seem to not be fully accurate - for example, the interrogating officer's name has changed multiple times throughout my research; so I had to make certain executive decisions based on the information presented by the content itself. If you have any confirmed facts that you feel may need correcting or addressing, please let me know - All of your help keeping things as accurate as possible is always appreciated!

    • @SuzySue415
      @SuzySue415 2 роки тому +66

      I disagree. If anything, he may be coming down after a manic episode. The things he mentions like the sleeplessness and impulsive behavior fit a manic episode. But the kid sitting there being interrogated is anything but manic. His tone of voice is monotonous, his speech and movements are slow and his responses are often delayed. He says 'I don't know...' a lot. He's showing none of the typical signs of mania but definitely some of the signs of post-manic depression.
      Bipolar disorder often develops during adolescence, so between 15-25 years old. So his age does fit. But don't get me wrong, none of this is an excuse for what he did. During a manic psychosis, people can do extreme things but he also shows none of the signs of psychosis. Other than that, there's no reason for him to kill people. Having bipolar disorder doesn't make you more likely to become a murderer. Having a f*cked up personality does.

I like hearing the play by play of what happened and their thoughts/relational at the time much more than having to listen to these guys try to lie their way out of the trouble they are in. For instance, when michael said the reason he shot the gas station clerk in the face is because "sometimes people get shot" as if that's just a normal shitty day to day thing to happen. At some point he broke into my house and stole all that was of value. And he did the same to his other, even closer friend. Later when he got caught it turned out that he'd got into drugs. But watching now just how much this guy in the video reminds me of him, I am pretty sure he had something like that in him all along.

      I was on the periphery of that too. Some friends of friends were heading toward violence and more serious crimes. I moved away from those people, but my friends still tended to be pot heads like me. It wasn’t until later in life that I severed all ties to my old crowd. I had moved away and made something of my life, but they had not.
      One friend in particular never did, and it got to a point where I had to walk away. He’s a decent enough guy, but he got to be in his late 40s and still leeching off his parents, while blaming the world for his problems. He was the last one I had to cut off. Several others just refused to get their act together.
      If you’re young and you’re reading this, trust me you’re better off straightening your life out and not letting the other people drag you down.

Don't get me wrong, I take zero issue with people dabbling responsibly. I just get the sense Michael hasn't done much of anything responsibly up to this point. Seems like the kid is just slowly unraveling into an arrogant, sociopathic little prick. Normally, with minors, I'd say something like, "I hope he gets the help he so clearly needs while he still has a chance at a solid life," but... I think it's safe to say he doesn't have much interest in wanting said help, even if it were available to him. Sadly, at this rate, I think he's merely on his way to becoming a few more statistics in a classroom textbook he'll never read -- and doesn't seem to mind one bit.

    About the smiling. I’ve seen a few comments mentioning that he’s forcing it to try to look evil, but I disagree. He looks jovial. He’s smiling with his eyes. He looks genuinely pleased, even elated. I don’t think it’s forced at all, I think he’s enjoying himself.

      there is no help for evil. Evil is not an illness. Violent psychopaths aren't curable. He isn't having any "bipolar" episode right now. Oh and I'm a practicing psychiatrist. Other than using the word evil, I can replace that with antisocial personality disorder, and still there is no treatment for that: NONE. Despite his claims of not sleeping for 4 days, there is absolutely not one sign of any manic episode, when he's shown being escorted/arrested by the police, in his blue shirt; not one sign of any mental episode when he's being interviewed. If he is indeed Bipolar, the murders had nothing to do with it.
