I visited the USA you cannot drink till 21, it is illegal to cross the street where you like, you can not walk down the road with a bottle of beer.

The most unbelievable thing about this story imo is people thinking she was his first victim. He was looking for the next Tinder date with a corpse in his room...this was NOT his first rodeo.
Nah they said part of the evidence was him having made some very damning searches, I doubt a serial killer with experience would do that. Also why would he need to buy a travel case, a shovel, all the cleaning equipment and so on? It seems like he legitimately didn't plan it, if she was strangled I could believe it was a legitimate accident and he panicked afterwards, but all the blood indicates he stabbed her or something so maybe a thrill moment or something and he snapped.
And he preys on the weak and naive. Youth is not an excuse for being oblivious. If you travel the world, you have to become worldy and read people and their energy.

Well, once they got access to her phone it wasn't difficult. The last person she talked to, they went to go speak with, and he ran away. Kind of makes their job pretty easy when the suspect runs away. No praise necessary for law enforcement. All they did was follow the flowchart, and they got very lucky to run into the suspect when they did.

*Can I just say how impressed* I am with (1) the footage quality of all those CCTV cameras and (2) the sheer number of them located everywhere. Wow, the video quality was so clear and high definition, in stark contrast with what’s normal in the US. Like, does the government in New Zealand subsidize security cameras for businesses or something??
I mean I'm not business owner, but I'm sure they can 100% write them off at tax time as a tax deductible item as we do in Australia! So a good incentive to get a good quality camera.

21yrs old, traveling abroad alone, meeting strangers online and going bar hopping is incredibly dangerous, unfortunately for Grace she found out the hard way. Such a sad situation, RIP Grace.

Nobody deserves what happened to her, but she put herself in danger and paid the ultimate price for her foolishness

Actually Auckland cctv is incredible. The cameras are 360 degrees cameras so at anytime you can view 360 degrees on any direction you want (yes the recording ) i think that's awesome. It was time consuming though I'm sure

Most definitely, for the innocent people, cameras can make or break a case, im so glad that they were able to timeline where he was, and what he was doing.
He was so distraught and shocked about her mysterious and bloody death in his living room that he was out the next day, on another tinder date, while she lay slaughtered in his living room....
I've seen this story before, but you're doing a really great job. The red arrow really helps a lot. And I didn't know about this second tinder date. And I had to push pause because I just could cry and throw up.
This video is a piece of art. It's beautifully tragic for lovely Grace, whilst we encounter the benefits of the CCTV presented, whatever we have to do to capture our villainous killers. Getting Jardine in, at the end, had me in tears. It's so complex, and all in 24 minutes and 4 seconds. It was better than almost any roller coaster. It's a stunning video and I have watched this a few times, but without subscribing, you keep coming up, so I had a deep dive and realised I was not actually subscribed. You guys are talented. Thank you so much. It's like TV and I agree it saves me so much time, ALTHOUGH, I love love love a wee 3 hour interrogation, so consider long form too and you have all the makings of the champion of the genre. The “50 Shades” defense is absolutely disgusting. It’s used to cast doubt on the victim, making her partially responsible because she was supposedly into dangerous BDSM. And in cases like this the victim isn’t able to defend herself and her reputation in court.

He may have been trying to get somebody else to come up to his room so he could have someone else to blame the murder on. He definitely noticed the camera in the elevator after he murdered Grace and quite possibly started thinking about trying to cover his tracks/ misdirect investigators.

@@grahamwinston3692 I mean, it kind of does in the sense it allows crimes to be solved quickly, and in terms of serial murderers or rapists, etc., solving and catching them faster does prevent them from committing the crime again. Plus saying everything you do is being monitored is a bit hyperbolic: they obviously can't monitor you in your actual home/private property. The real issue I see with CCTV is if a democracy with an already wide-ranging network falls into the hands of an authoritarian government - that would be very bad.
I rarely feel emotional when watching true crime vids, but this one hit me quite hard.

That New Zealand detective interviewing the killer is really good at his job, the way he conducted himself and projected his questions and statements was impressive. I liked how he said did you cause the death of Grace Millane? Then straight away followed up with you are under arrest for the murder of Grace Millane. And a side note with the at the time NZ prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, you don't see many leaders show emotion and sincerity the way she did apologising to Grace's family was a class act. Bravo

Can I just say what an astonishing job this detective did during the interrogations. Absolute masterclass in applying, maintaining and building pressure on a suspect. His greatest weapon were the pauses. Nice work.

I guess, once the deed is done, you really have no option but to take a shot at escaping it at any cost. Incredible how they pieced all the camera edits together, I can’t imagine what the family has been through. As a dad to a 10 year old daughter it chills me that in reality she can’t travel the world as I did without this extra risk out there for a young woman. As much as we hear that women ‘should’ feel and be safe out in the world the reality has never been and isn’t this way.
Tinder and bar hopping was the problem. Young women can travel alone if they used good judgement. Stay in the public when meeting a stranger. Stay sober and slow down the intimacy.
Watching the linked surveillance video in real time chronologically when it was finally released is quite eerie but also amazing knowing that the NZ police absolutely nailed this investigation and conclusive evidence for trial

The legal system we have in the West is insane. Even in America, where the death penalty is officially in use, people like Nicolas Cruz who killed 17+ people do not get the death sentence. I wish we could have the Saudi Arabian system of laws: you kill, rape, or commit any heinous crime, and you get your head chopped off in the public square.

I didn't watch this video for the longest time because I've watched other videos on this case and thought I knew it all but oh my god! I've never seen the footage of Jesse with the second Tinder date or of the police looking for him in the lobby and him spotting them and turning around! How crazy, it was like a freakin' movie.

One thing I have never understood about this murder case is, if he only strangled her, why were so many traces of blood discovered in his hotel room?
Lots of blood vessels responsible for transporting oxygen around the body, the damage caused restricting the flow or by they blood vessels themselves rupturing as they stress to find oxygen. She may not have died instantly from the strangulation and remained struggling to breath but with ruptured vessels and/or he took pictures of her afterward he may have rolled her over onto her stomach allowing post mortem blood to flow out. I've seen a dog that was accidentally choked by a leash being caught that bleed a fair bit from it's nose afterward it did survive though.

It’s cliche but think of how many totalitarian governments from years gone by would have wet dreams at the level of surveillance. We’re getting just a taste of that in China now.
