My understanding is that Paul Vunak, who trained with Rickson and Royce back in the day, had a contract with Team 6 and incorporated a lot of BJJ into the stuff they were doing as far back as the '90s.

Reminds me of MCMAP in the Marine Corps and DefTac in the LE community. Eventually, necessity will force these grossly ineffective systems to change and those in charge will realize that bjj and MMA work better than any of these over the top systems.
In the late 80’s it was SCARS, but also (on East Coast) Wing Chun was practiced by a lot of operators. But then in the early 90’s and beyond, a fellow team guy from ST- 6 who separated from active duty started teaching within the TEAMS and also opened a school in Virginia Beach called Functional Defensive Concepts Academy (FDC), which later became Lynx Academy. He brought MMA type Martial Arts to the Hampton Roads Virginia area. The foundation was Jeet Kune do, blended with Muay Tai, Boxing, Gracie BJJ, Kali, Pencjat Silat and on Saturdays we had open mat for whatever. There were also times where Tony Blauer was invited to teach seminars teaching his SPEAR System.
The blended fighting style seems to be a much better approach to dealing with hand to had COMBAT as opposed to cuffing prisoners. On the ground grappling with combatants seems to expose the fighter by placing all the weapons (knives etc.) carried on the belt and pouches within arms reach of the bad guy. Times change I guess, but I don't want my guys wrestling the enemy. Different for law enforcement and civilians of course.

This is good for the seals. The concern I have is that the police are acting like they need to do this/ acting like they are in a combat zone with many times complying people here in america. SF deals with terrorists in combat zones where as your average every day cop deals with tickets, domestic issues, etc. It would be good for SWAT too. Surely some LE would probably disagree but you could also argue that that police related shootings have sky rocketed ever since they have been trying to have cops act like high speed operators and not peace officers. Perceiving yourself as an operator plasters over the difference between a law enforcement officer serving a warrant and a commando in a war zone.
