The original first Air Bud movie is actually a rather charming, harmless family film. But yeah it didn't warrant all those sequels let alone spin offs.

The weirdest thing to me about the Airbuddies movies is that the dogs could talk. Buddy couldn’t. We went from a normal golden retriever who had learned a special skill to a magic talking puppy who worked for Santa. 😕 Also, Bill Cobbs played the coach/former basketball player in “Air Bud”, so it’s weird seeing him as a different character in this movie.
I found it even weirder when his kids found themselves going on these strange "adventures", from space to the North Pole to suddenly gaining superpowers from magical rings. Their owners need to stop being neglectful brats and keep them from doing all this weird shit. WTF?

Me and my brother tried to watch this with our grandma, but when we saw the scene where Santa gets amnesia and gets robbed, my brother started crying and couldn't finish the movie. And they are one of the toughest people I know. They rarely ever cry!
This is such a depressing special that I was actually surprised that the girl was able to get Paws out of the incinerator so quickly. I was half-expecting her to nearly fall into the fire with him!
Worse yet, if the mean lady actually threw the girl into the incinerator with Paws. Hey, you know this movie would do such a thing if it's balls had grew slightly larger!
I kinda wanna see if someone has cut the "nice" scenes out of the movie and made it a 15-30min descend into depression ending in a dead santa and a burnt puppy.
This has to be the most traumatizing movies that I've watched. In 5th grade, we had polar express day, and after we watched that movie, our wicked teacher had the audacity to make us watch the search for santa paus. Well, everything was fine until we got to 15:04 where the dog was about to be burned alive. Well, since there were about 24 10-year olds, we all eurpted into screaming and crying over seeing that scene. Everyone was terrified and in shock, and our teacher stopped the movie right before the girl saves him, so we all believed that the dog had died, leading to more sobbing and our teacher yelling at us for it. Yea.
Also for some reason Santa Paws first kid in Santa Buddies is totally forgotten in Santa Paws 2 so he could have kids who are Buddies replacements Also how tf is Santa Paws having kids? There was no female dog seen would be pretty messed up if Santa got another stuffed dog for a kid. But Santa Buddies came before Santa Paws so the stuffed dog coming to life mechanic wasn’t seen yet Also it’s funny right after playing Greg Heffley Zachary Gordon played a talking dog. There's something jarring that all these movies started with Air Bud. Like the original dog has probably been dead for like almost 20 years and their legacy still lives on with talking puppies who are supposed to be his descendants in a variety of films, most of which probably have nothing to do with sports let alone basketball.
7:58 Singing voice sounded familiar, so I went up on IMDb, and this girl was, get this In Santa Buddies, Played a sad orphan dog called "tiny" HAS A SAD SONG, inside a pound, RAN BY A MEAN OWNER, WHO LOATHE'S CHRISTMAS, AND INTERACTS WITH PAWS IN THE 2ND TO 3RD ACT!!!!!! WOW!!! fun fact, she is quote "the youngest ever Top 10 Finalist on America's Got Talent".
I've been on both sides of Toys For Tots. My parents were Marines, so we lived on base where there were the donation boxes everywhere, hell I evem donated my old toys that were in good condition. Then it was flipped on me when christmas season rolled around. My dad was on a 6 month deployment in Afghanistan, and had missed mot only my birthday but was going to miss Christmas too. So, Toys For Tots also has a small set up for the families who had a loved one deployed, care packages for the moms or dads while the kids got to pick out a toy. They really are an amazing charity, I really reccomend it
Seriously, the content of this movie meshes about as well as My Little Pony meets Schindler's List. Speaking of My Little Pony, one of the orphanage girls is Michelle Creber, the voice of Apple Bloom.
Funniest part is that there are people in the real world who are as 1 dimensionally evil as her. No reason, no care, just sadism and/or power lust. Likely also having a few equally power crazed people keeping them from facing the rightful consequences.
And what about literally all the other orphan girls? You know, the ones left with the most incompetent social worker ever, who hired a toy-burning lunatic to look after the girls? What happens to them?
Why is everyone running orphanages in movies evil? Like, I imagine someone threatening to put kids in the basement or taking away their belongings given to them by their dead parents would be immediately cracked down on or fired.
And not only this but the anachronism in some films. I’m pretty sure there haven’t been any orphanages in America or Western Europe since the mid 20th century.

What was the search part of this movie? If anything, Paws was searching for Claus, not the other way around. I heard of this movie and thought it was gonna be an epic origin story for Santa Paws being a job of dogs throughout time working with Santa Claus, instead, is Santa gonna die? Calm the heck down, movie! Lol..Santa Christ approves. Guess it's legit.
I guess he just didn't expect it from an Air Bud spinoff. TBT, I think it's kinda cool when direct to video films have this much effort and high stakes, but like Doug said, it doesn't work if the plot and characters aren't charming or likable to handle the darkness.

To be fair, there hasn't been another Air Bud movie or spin-off since 2013. So yeah, it looks like it did die. Though knowing Disney, they'll probably bring it back for Disney+ at some point.
I'm crying and laughing simultaneously. It's hilarious, heartbreaking and even a little heartwarming. This movie really reflects the outlook on life so many people have, myself included at one point, but it brings forth the message that people and life itself can be good despite the evil that runs rampant throughout the world. Life can be extremely depressing but once in a while, you get a happy ending. It's not all doom and gloom. To quote a famous Santa look-alike; "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. One has to simpy remember to turn on the light." This movie really embodies that message from my point of view. Is it a good movie? Not in the traditional sense but it does deserve the attention of critics and some audiences. It creates a certain awareness of what to look out for. Place your focus on what is good but be aware of what wants to harm you. Maybe I'm thinking too much about this and analysing it to death. Anyhow, Merry Christmas and God bless.

"While I wouldn't say it's a Christmas classic, I kinda like the tone of the darker moments as you wouldn't expect it in a film like this! Also Paws giving up his crystal to save Santa definitely shows the loyalty of a dog! I also like that only those who believe in Santa can understand Paws! To me I believe the Hucklebuckles don't necessarily believe in Santa Claus (given they employ in store Santa Claus & their reaction to the dogs talking) but the spirit of Christmas! I also like that they adopt the girls at the end, even though its kinda foreshadowed by Mrs. Hucklebuckle being unable to have children & the fact the two girls are orphans, but its not a bad Christmas film trope and they only adopt two instead of the whole orphanage like in The Christmas Tree! Also the darker aspects remind me of Dickins who didn't shy away of the harsh realities in his works including A Christmas Carol! Sure it has some tonal whiplash, but it has enough of that Christmas spirit & magic! Also again its nice to see a downside to Mr. & Mrs. Claus' immortality and the guy who played Santa did a good job humanizing him especially with him grieving the passing of Mr. Hucklebuckle who's gift of the toy dog gives birth to Santa Paws who ends up helping Mr. Hucklebuckle's family carry on his legacy (I have no doubt the adopted girls will ensure to care on the Hucklebuckle family legacy given how much impact it had on their lives)!"
I actually prefer this review to Bobsheaux's. Both reviews are good, but Bobsheaux focused on all the plot holes, whereas Doug focused on the unexpectedly dark content, which I think is a much bigger problem. I really hope they upload a First Viewing. I want to see Rob's reaction to this movie.
The Buddies series was my childhood! I never liked the Paws movies. I remember starting to watch Santa Paws but stopped near the start because it was just too sad for my young mind. After watching this review, I'm kinda glad I didn't finish it as a kid otherwise I would be just as sad as I was after watching Bambi. I could not calm down and didn't watch it again until I was older.

This is such a depressing special that I was actually surprised that the girl was able to get Paws out of the incinerator so quickly. I was half-expecting her to nearly fall into the fire with him!
Worse yet, if the mean lady actually threw the girl into the incinerator with Paws. Hey, you know this movie would do such a thing if it's balls had grew slightly larger!
I kinda wanna see if someone has cut the "nice" scenes out of the movie and made it a 15-30min descend into depression ending in a dead santa and a burnt puppy.
Sounds like a Jojos Bizarre Adventure plot, just without the bad guy getting the crap beaten out of him in the end.

This has to be the most traumatizing movies that I've watched. In 5th grade, we had polar express day, and after we watched that movie, our wicked teacher had the audacity to make us watch the search for santa paus. Well, everything was fine until we got to 15:04 where the dog was about to be burned alive. Well, since there were about 24 10-year olds, we all eurpted into screaming and crying over seeing that scene. Everyone was terrified and in shock, and our teacher stopped the movie right before the girl saves him, so we all believed that the dog had died, leading to more sobbing and our teacher yelling at us for it. Yea.

There's something jarring that all these movies started with Air Bud. Like the original dog has probably been dead for like almost 20 years and their legacy still lives on with talking puppies who are supposed to be his descendants in a variety of films, most of which probably have nothing to do with sports let alone basketball.

I've been on both sides of Toys For Tots. My parents were Marines, so we lived on base where there were the donation boxes everywhere, hell I evem donated my old toys that were in good condition. Then it was flipped on me when christmas season rolled around. My dad was on a 6 month deployment in Afghanistan, and had missed mot only my birthday but was going to miss Christmas too. So, Toys For Tots also has a small set up for the families who had a loved one deployed, care packages for the moms or dads while the kids got to pick out a toy. They really are an amazing charity, I really reccomend it
Seriously, the content of this movie meshes about as well as My Little Pony meets Schindler's List.

What was the search part of this movie? If anything, Paws was searching for Claus, not the other way around. I heard of this movie and thought it was gonna be an epic origin story for Santa Paws being a job of dogs throughout time working with Santa Claus, instead, is Santa gonna die? Calm the heck down, movie!

I guess he just didn't expect it from an Air Bud spinoff. TBT, I think it's kinda cool when direct to video films have this much effort and high stakes, but like Doug said, it doesn't work if the plot and characters aren't charming or likable to handle the darkness.
Nazis in Nutcracker? Surprisingly it will probably be more accurate to the source than "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms".
I'm still trying to wrap my head around Disney thinking that the Nutcracker by way of action/fantasy was a bankable investment. Like did they think to themselves, "Well of course! The Nutcracker! Box Office gold!"

the Air Bud franchise refused to die long after the original Air Bud actually died. Disney ran this shit far into the ground
To be fair, there hasn't been another Air Bud movie or spin-off since 2013. So yeah, it looks like it did die.
Though knowing Disney, they'll probably bring it back for Disney+ at some point.
Honestly these were my guilty pleasures as a kid and had a soft spot for super buddies,
I'm crying and laughing simultaneously. It's hilarious, heartbreaking and even a little heartwarming. This movie really reflects the outlook on life so many people have, myself included at one point, but it brings forth the message that people and life itself can be good despite the evil that runs rampant throughout the world. Life can be extremely depressing but once in a while, you get a happy ending. It's not all doom and gloom. To quote a famous Santa look-alike; "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. One has to simpy remember to turn on the light." This movie really embodies that message from my point of view. Is it a good movie? Not in the traditional sense but it does deserve the attention of critics and some audiences. It creates a certain awareness of what to look out for. Place your focus on what is good but be aware of what wants to harm you. Maybe I'm thinking too much about this and analysing it to death. Anyhow, Merry Christmas and God bless.

Also Paws giving up his crystal to save Santa definitely shows the loyalty of a dog! I also like that only those who believe in Santa can understand Paws! To me I believe the Hucklebuckles don't necessarily believe in Santa Claus (given they employ in store Santa Claus & their reaction to the dogs talking) but the spirit of Christmas! I also like that they adopt the girls at the end, even though its kinda foreshadowed by Mrs. Hucklebuckle being unable to have children & the fact the two girls are orphans, but its not a bad Christmas film trope and they only adopt two instead of the whole orphanage like in The Christmas Tree! Also the darker aspects remind me of Dickins who didn't shy away of the harsh realities in his works including A Christmas Carol! Sure it has some tonal whiplash, but it has enough of that Christmas spirit & magic! Also again its nice to see a downside to Mr. & Mrs. Claus' immortality and the guy who played Santa did a good job humanizing him especially with him grieving the passing of Mr. Hucklebuckle who's gift of the toy dog gives birth to Santa Paws who ends up helping Mr. Hucklebuckle's family carry on his legacy (I have no doubt the adopted girls will ensure to care on the Hucklebuckle family legacy given how much impact it had on their lives)!"

Both reviews are good, but Bobsheaux focused on all the plot holes, whereas Doug focused on the unexpectedly dark content, which I think is a much bigger problem.

The Buddies series was my childhood! I never liked the Paws movies. I remember starting to watch Santa Paws but stopped near the start because it was just too sad for my young mind. After watching this review, I'm kinda glad I didn't finish it as a kid otherwise I would be just as sad as I was after watching Bambi. I could not calm down and didn't watch it again until I was older.
