I just realized why the dogs are the protagonists. It's because dogs are more likely to do what you want them to do, where cats are just as likely to do whatever they want.

Numerous canine actors play each dog. Some are calmer and better suited for close-ups, laying-down scenes and other quiet moments. Others are more talented at stunts (jumping up on something, running, climbing, etc...). But, yeah...each dog character usually has no less than 3 dogs playing it; many times, they're not all the same gender. They just all have to be well trained and look alike.
MW Roach Excellent point! Another problem is that puppies only stay a certain specific size for a few weeks at most, meaning that a movie plot that only covers a few days’ time would be impossible as the original puppies used at the start would be larger or smaller in every scene. A movie normally takes well over a year to film and the scenes are rarely shot in order. So puppies are constantly being swapped out for newer, younger puppies to maintain that consistency. It also means that sometimes specific fur markings have to be painted on with makeup or edited in.

I never got why cats are always the bad guys either. I love cats and it always pissed me off that they had to be the villains in many other movies. Besides the movies you pointed out, I haven't seen a movie where they are good. Oh I almost forgot, that pound puppy movie Doug critiqued, the cats were good.
Cats are symbolic for women, so gay cartoon makers and movie maker always portray cats as evil. This stems from a deep rooted hate for women because they want to be women.
Mr. Tinkle: (Tries to freaking shoot a child and his parents, but instead lights the room on fire). "Oh. I'm quite clever." That cat had way more menace than you'd expect from this film.
I guess it's because demographics perceive cats' and dogs' personalities to be dissimilar, cats are lethargic and deceitful, dogs are optimistic and outgoing, idk.

I remember this movie being called Cats vs Dogs.
Anyone else?
RezMect HS mandala effect
I remember it, too!
RezMect HS Me! I did! Thank God I'm not the only one who remembered it that way!
Me too
Am I the only one who actually laughed at the son of my mom bit?
sefflikefeff well too bad
Tomaž Golub i laughed at it because of how stupid it was
Starring *Alec Baldwin* as *A Son of a Bitch*.
Tomaž Golub I laughed at it
I smiled, I liked the joke
6:33 - Should've been "Ducktales Woo-Uhm-hoo"
God even as a 10 year old I remember cringing at that kid's acting
Wow, I can't believe he didn't like deadpool. Unsubscribing.
Same
MultiCool55 *woosh*
+MultiCool55 You didn't finish the video before saying that, did you?
Joe Cammaroto Ok, i didn't finish the video while responding to that, but I see a lot of that kind of stuff on the internet all the time. So sorry for the quick reaction.
MultiCool55 It's fine, I just found it kind of funny,
This has got to be your best review yet! Way to go Doug!
The panting part was priceless. Lol i didn't realize that just now. Thank you for ruining my childhood.
Nope it fucking sucked

Why are cats always the badguys in movies? Execept Aristocats , Oilver and company and Peter No tail , I have not seen one movie with good cats in them. :/
I love cats so I think they should have more movies where they can be nice and awsome!
I never got why cats are always the bad guys either. I love cats and it always pissed me off that they had to be the villains in many other movies. Besides the movies you pointed out, I haven't seen a movie where they are good. Oh I almost forgot, that pound puppy movie Doug critiqued, the cats were good.
Because cats are evil and vicious. Pet a dog and it'll love you for life. Pet a cat and it'll try to scratch your eyes out.
Cats are symbolic for women, so gay cartoon makers and movie maker always portray cats as evil. This stems from a deep rooted hate for women because they want to be women.
I'm a cat person.....I'm sad now
+Joshua ...
Mr. Tinkle: (Tries to freaking shoot a child and his parents, but instead lights the room on fire). "Oh. I'm quite clever."
That cat had way more menace than you'd expect from this film.
Why are cats always the villain ?? :(
Hannah Burris I just assume it's because of the "villain in a big chair petting the cat" cliché
Hannah Burris Because they're Evil.
disneydork100 lol
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England 1st. why is your name so long?
2cd. cats are not evil.
I guess it's because demographics perceive cats' and dogs' personalities to be dissimilar, cats are lethargic and deceitful, dogs are optimistic and outgoing, idk.
you know I remember watching this movie in pre-k. I remember it being a bit less stupid, but guess not.
Everything seems less stupid before the fifth grade. I was addicted to Serendipity until I was 7, and I really only stopped because I lost the tape.
Why does the puppy sound like an adult at the beginning? Shouldn't he have a kid voice?
Blue Flare dog years I guess
Blue Flare because casting is dumb
tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Aiden DeJong bone
then again, why do some kids in cartons sound like adults? (Dipper in Gravity Falls)
"Don't you wanna be a Russian Space Dog? You know, like the one who died... all alone... in the vast emptiness of space..."
This movie predict space buddies
@@samuelcutidaguero4861 more like it referenced the space wars when Russia sent a dog into space as a test subject and it died after a few hours from heat exhaustion
Also.. The lead puppy likes to change it's sex in between takes.
When will the Nostalgia Critic review Kangaroo Jack?
WHEN?!?!
Good question.
+Jupiter9099 around the time somebody watches it.
+Jupiter9099 why not kangaroo jack the animated movie?
+ffejpsycho If bad movies didn't get watched, nobody would know about the Star Wars Life Day Special.
The referee should've flagged him for overusing the joke about the kid being a terrible actor.
This is the kind of movie you enjoy while really high.
That horrible moment when you realize there’s a sequel
I refused to believe that
And it has a Silence of The Lambs reference in it. Doug is gonna tear it to shreds in thew review for that alone.
I musta blocked that movie from my mind.
@@honestdave It doesn't help that the original came out in 2001 and the sequel in 2010. That seems like a stretch to me.
@@101Volts makes you wonder who was asking for a sequel. The only thing I remember about it is the silence of the lambs joke
The guy who directed "Son Of The Mask" and "Cats & Dogs" graduated from Harvard's film school. O_O
Just saying.
WWWWWWHAT!? 😲
+TrueBlueProductions My mistake, Lawrence Guterman attended Harvard for his undergrad in physics.
And then he went to University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts for his Masters degree in animation.
I feel embarrassed for not fact-checking my previous statement.
At least you corrected it :D
Son of the Mask was a bad movie I suppose
Agent of Chaos 4/20ing it
Anyone think he should review the sequel - Revenge of Kitty Galore?
+Emily McMahan kitty Galore was a sequel? I thought it was a reboot.
It was a sequel. If I remember right, the main puppy from this one shows up in that one with a mate and puppies of his own.
Dur
Hmm-HM
Don Adams was on that movie, so that makes it worth watching for me. I'm a huge fan of classic Get Smart, not the horrible movie with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.
As a kid i would rewatch this movie over and over and over. It was good to me
There are cats. There are dogs. AMPERSANDS ARE NOT ANIMALS
&
wait, that isn't an animal?
+Scott Sandler what about Ampersand from Y the Last Man?
Aziz Woodward Yand is the Last Man
I don't know, looks like they could be sleeping snakes to me.
+Scott Sandler we are animal
Next time I find a dead animal on the road I'm totally telling my friends
"It's a trick. Get an axe!"
Is it bad that I did laugh? 21:35
+Darth Sader Nope. I found it funny
Nope.:-)
+Darth Sader
no, it's so bad it's kind of funny.
no ragrets
+Darth Sader no
My sister loved this movie and made me watch it sooo many times. I almost managed to convince myself it was all just a fever dream. Then I saw this review
"When Jeff was sniffing Lou",what was Goblum smoking?
Now we need critic to do the sequel
Spider-Man and the boss baby in the same movie huh? Well, I'm speechless.
Joji Maguire and Baldwin who were both in this film were also both in that film
@@TIGER-xk4gk Welcome to the joke.
That ‘ Russian space dog ‘ thing the puppy wanted to be is basically him saying he wants to be taken off from the streets, placed in space all alone, and die. ;-;
I want this to be remade as an animated movie with a competent studio and a good director. As goofy as the concept is, I want to see one done properly.
+Fenrir I want to do something like that.
The kid looks like Kazoo Kid
Ella Kaale you mean pewdiepie? (if you get this refrence tada I love ya.)
Yea critic, the truth about cat and dogs is good 😂
Hey
Mr tinkles was my favorite villain back then
Leave him alone XD
did not remember the cgi being that bad
same
Because at the time it wasn't that bad. But it's the kind that doesn't age well.
same
better than birdemic
The CGI was good for it's time back in 2001. But compared to growth CGI has had since then, it's age is shown big time
I hate it when people claim that cats don't love you, my cat definitely loves me. She rubs against my legs, purrs like a motorbike, gives me cat kisses by blinking her eyes, twitches the end of her tail and tries to jump on me in the night and nuzzle my face w
Yes, I have a cat and he's a lovebug. I wish more people realized that cats are actually loving pets.
Honestly , what the hell. Who ever says cats don't love you is an idiot. They're living, breathing creatures who want affection too. What idiot started the whole, cats don't love you as much as dogs.
Same with my cat she's my adorable little drop of sunshine.
Get him to review The Revenge of Kitty Galore, stat!
I saw this as a kid and adored it, got it on DVD, watched it all the time....flash forward 17 years later and....I have no idea what I was thinking back then...
