    Curvature of the earth?. As you're on a canal, you should consider looking into Samuel Rowbothum. He was looking for curvature, but couldn't find any, using a long canal.
    Curvature calculation is 8 inches per mile squared.

    I personally think you need another year's experience before going on the Thames when there is any danger of flooding. They don't close rivers for nothing. Plus you need a boat with no problems (except cosmetic ones). Sorry to sound a 'party pooper' 😥 but even experienced boaters hit dangerous problems on that river and your safety is the main priority. ❤ Keep cruising and learning but most importantly keep safe. SORRY! Wrote this before I saw it was September for you and not 'real time' with storms and major rainfall. Looking forward to seeing how far you actually get - but still hope you are off the tidal river before the proverbial hits the fan!

    • @PinkLittleElephant
      @PinkLittleElephant 8 місяців тому +1

      The Thames is generally ok, more dangerous below Teddington, because then it becomes tidal. There is also a set of warning boards on the upper Thames depending on the volume/speed of the current. Red boards are not good for moving in a canal boat because they are generally underpowered. Finally, it is a good idea to have an anker and appropriate length of chain in case the engine packs stops.

      Thanks for worrying about us but yes we’re a bit ahead with filming so this is late out if that makes sense! We’re all safe & wouldn’t fancy rivers at the minute!

    please don't use the centreline for mooring. If the water level changes drastically (Canal if someone leaves locks open, or on rivers) the centreline can tilt the boat and push skin flittings or engine air intake/exhaust under water. The tilting happens because the centreline is attached high up on your boat

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  8 місяців тому +2

      Yeah I must admit until recently we did it as a precaution to pins being ripped out on the K&A (even with 2 pins bow & 2 in the stern) - just seen a few posts on the Facebook pages about boats being pulled over with the rivers rising so we’ll stop doing it I think 😫😂

    • @PinkLittleElephant
      @PinkLittleElephant 8 місяців тому

    I often see boaters carrying tons of recycling because they don't understand that CRT have an arrangement that the waste which goes in thier bins is recycled by the company with the contract. They do this because they don't have room for recycling bins and when they did try it everybody put the wrong things in the wrong bins. That's why they no longer allow dry toilet waste, because it ain't much fun sorting the rubbish by hand and coming across that.

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  8 місяців тому +1

      I heard from someone they don’t trust the boaters to sort it properly so they send it off to be incinerated instead so you could be right - I’d say every third services has actual recycling though so we just hold off for those just incase

      Awesome! I’m using a Makita Reciprocating saw, it works well on the smaller logs (probably up to 6” without much issue) - a chainsaw would be the next purchase for me but just haven’t needed one yet, most of them take 2 x 18v batteries at once so you’d need 4 batteries atleast really which isn’t cheap, check out the Stihl MS170 as a benchmark petrol to compare with as they’re decent & only £200!
